new-to-me #590 - The Testament of Ann Lee
Seagrass (dir. Meredith Hama-Brown) x VAFF 2023.
Hama-Brown deftly exposes the cracks in any perfect-looking family through the lens of childhood. Shot on film, Seagrass has a fresh take on its generational family drama. How the film juxtaposes character emotions with dramatic tension work to build the story's climax.
Premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Discovery program.
Belfast showing at the Virginia Film Festival
I am soooo stoked!! Belfast will be playing in Charlottesville at the Virginia Film Festival on Thursday, October 28th at 8:30pm. Tickets go on sale on October 5th. I am definitely planning on going!! 😊 The VAFF is really fun. My first experience was in 2015 when the PBS show Mercy Street was coming out. I had a chance to meet and get photos with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Hannah James (yes that HJ!) and Tara Summers.
I also realize they spelled Caitriona’s name wrong 🤦🏻♀️

Stay the Night (dir. Renuka Jeyapalan) x VAFF 2022.
Jeyapalan crafts a pleasing romance with enough interesting touches to hold our attention. If you are inclined for an all-in-one-night walk-and-talk film about two twentysomething singles, who both find themselves at personal and professional crossroads, then Stay the Night offers an enjoyable yet familiar vibe.
