What are your feelings on video games? Do you play or watch any? If you do, what is your favorite/who is your favorite person to watch? If you don't, why not?

I love video games. They’re fun as hell, especially if you play with the right people. 

We often play video games during Coven Game Night (yes, I can confirm it, it’s a Real Thing), though they remain the specific love of more of the younger vampires. Often it is Daniel, Armand, Jesse, Louis (sometimes), and me. Though I will tell you here and now that Khayman is secretly fantastic fun at video games. 

I love watching Daniel play--he’s absolutely ruthless whilst being simultaneously filled with joy. It’s a pleasure, especially when he destroys Armand at Mario Kart. 

I play quite a few different games, though I really do love Mario Kart. It’s absolutely stupid and leads to the most wonderful arguments. Once, Louis wouldn’t speak to me for three nights because I made him lose.

Lying in a coma on the floor of a chapel. You know this. 

What was it, really? ‘Coma’ feels like such a cheap word. ‘Catatonic state,’ perhaps? Either way, I’d put myself through far too much trauma at that point and could no longer face myself or those I’d hurt.

Playmaker

There were some places in the US, Nicolas had found over his infrequent visits over the years, that he didn’t mind so much. Some that he could even enjoy, at least for a time.

He hadn’t expected that this would ever be anywhere in close proximity to Armand, but here he was. Not just on the same island Armand had gotten for his one and only fledgling, but even with said fledgling and in Armand’s very own study. If he had been put on the spot, Nicolas wouldn’t have been able to say whose idea it was to take over the study. Could have been either one of them or just them both in a combination that was already proving volatile.

In some ways Nicolas felt transported through the centuries as he sat on the ground, leaning against Armand’s desk, jotting down notes on a piece of paper. In other and more important ways, this was something entirely new and exhilarating. Daniel was a marvel, certainly an inspiration. Nicolas didn’t care one way or the other if they would end up producing anything worth a damn, but the very process had him fired up.

“Never considered it. I still think with the technical limitations of all those years ago. What’s not possible today?” He laughed to himself as he leaned his head back and looked at Daniel. “I suppose in these times the challenge is to make anyone feel even a little unease and feel the supernatural. Such a cynical age, yet naive.”

What about me? What's something you envy about me?

Your courage. Your honesty. The way you go into every situation with your eyes open and a determination to make the best of it. The way you never sugarcoat an uncomfortable truth in your own mind.

What's one thing you envy about Armand?

His ability to remain calm in almost any situation.

How did you beaten back your madness? How do you cope with it on a daily basis?

Just between you and me: I didn’t. I don’t.

It’s there and it’s not going anywhere. It’s been part of me in some form ever since I can remember. I’ve never blamed it on the Blood. I’ve blamed it on Lestat, sure, I’ve blamed it on Armand, but they just make convenient targets when I need them to be.

What is it anyway, that madness? I have bouts where I fill every available surface with music and words, where I play until my fingers bleed and I’ve been told that I’m scary like that, I’ve been told that’s my madness. It’s not or if it is, it’s not the madness I fear. It’s when I go quiet and the world gets louder, when everything vibrant dulls.

Find something or someone that can ground you, if you can. Perhaps someone that can pull you out of it. And if you’re really lucky, someone who’d end you, when you’re too gone to do it yourself.
