as if she can’t tell another wizard when she sees one. the witch has tried and failed to dissuade her apprentice from discussing matters pertaining to sorcery with those who merely look like practitioners. for myrtle, it’s not a look but a feeling. magical energy radiates from the man and a smile blooms on her mouth.

whether or not the gaudy man is the wizard howl doesn’t enter her head. to myr, howl’s a monster under her bed. he’s not fit for public viewing, for him to walk among ordinary people is absurd. she’s been shocked with horror stories about his heart- consumption and now firmly refuses to believe that someone so disgusting could enjoy the sunshine like she is.
