Vala #4: The Escape

Ganada was not stupid, she made sure there is no way for Vala to get some fun out of her punishment. Every servant sent to her was male and ordered to not to talk to her. The only positive contact Vala had now was Lini but she also was only allowed to visit her when she was to prepare Vala for a court meeting. Vala knew maybe she should have listened to Lini and not provoke her sister so much, Did she regret flirting with the prince's handmaiden surely not. But maybe the whole talk with Ganada could have gone better. But what happened happened and is not to change, so she has to live with the consequences. At least Vala was lucky and got her book about the Orilium Academy out of the library before she became a captive in her own room. Lini felt bad for Vala. Vala looked terrible whenever Lini was sent to her to prepare her for a meeting with another prince. But that girl was to proud to give in in anyway. Oh no if the queen thought she would get Vala to finally cooperate with her to get out of her prison, the queen couldn't have been more wrong and everybody who knew Vala good enough could have predicted that. Only problem Lini is really the only person in this palace who knows her sweet girl good enough. Meeting after meeting Vala flirted with some servant girl, and Lini was convinced by now Vala would, if no woman was available even flirt with male servants just to annoy her sister. However doesn't matter what Vala shows to the outside Lini knows how much her little girl hurts inside, she always needed her human interactions and now she is most of her time alone in her room. Today Lini was sent again to Vala. Vala was to meet an elven prince. Lini entered Vala's room. The girl was again studying the book about the Orilium Academy. “How are you my sweetheart?” Vala asked. “I'm fine Lini. Don't worry about me. But I need your help today. I decided I will visit this Academy and learn about magic.” Vala said confidently. “Vala do you really think the Queen will you allow that?”-”Oh no she won't allow it to me if I ask my sister. But I already wrote a letter for her explaining how this is best for both of us. The only thing I need from you is for you to give this letter to my sis tomorrow morning.” Vala said. You could see this girl already has a full escape plan ready in her head. And if this girl has a plan that she is sure will work, it will work 11 out of 10 times. “So I guess that means this will be the last time we see us before you leave.” Lini asked- Lini felt sad about the thought to lose her “daughter”, but she was also happy for Vala to get out of this and fulfill her dream. Maybe at the academy she will finally learn to get real friends she can really trust and have no interest in using her.. Two hours later Vala was ready to meet the “prince”, who was part of her escape plan. What nobody, not even Lini knew, is that Prince Fanta is no real prince but an escape plan she planted a long time ago. Fanta is in reality a brother of one of her paramours. He will get her out of the palace in exchange for some gold. Vala is sad that she had to use Lini as unknowing  accomplice, but to Lini's own protection she couldn't know about the plan. Lini herself delivered the start signal to the escape plan, although Lini thought she delivered some kind of love letter to one of my paramours. The whole plan relied on her sister searching very desperate for some prince to marry her off. So that was one reason that she had to turn down and upset every prince. That and her just enjoying the flirting. Now Ganada was at a point where she accepted every prince she got and not really check if the prince background really is true. The goodbye with Lini was harder then she hopped it to be. Lini would find a letter from Vala later in her room where she will get everything explained. And Vala promised her to come back to her and that she will always love her as much as a daughter could love her mother. One hour the plan was on. Vala has left the palace and the city for the first time in years. and 2 weeks later they left Ossory long behind them and have reached the coast of Daerune. Last night Ganada got news that Prince Fanta kidnapped Vala and escaped with her out of the city. But now Valas former nurse brought a letter to her. The nurse told her that she found that latter today in her room and that it was address to the Queen. Ganada took the letter and read it: “Hey Sis, sorry I mean Good day my Queen, by now you probably realized that I'm no longer here and you might even be angry. That's why I wrote you this letter. Let me explain to you why you shouldn't be angry. My disappearance is a great chance for both of us. I for one get my freedom back and you on the other hand got rid of your biggest trouble. You can now say I got kidnapped or died and in the end you can just forget about me. I'm no longer a dark spot in your perfectly silver life. So don't be angry and just enjoy a live where I can no longer embarrass you. Love Vala PS: okay who do I try to trick here. We both know there is no Love between us. PSS: Please give good care to my dear Lini, I know you don't owe me anything but Lini served the royal family good for all our live.” Ganada had to read the letter multiple time but she has to admit Vala had a point.  So Ganada let the letter burn and is ready to move on. After Vala left the palace and Lini brought the letter she got to the Queen. She found a letter herself in her room, that explained Valas whole plan. Vala even organized a nice house outside the city walls for Lini to move on to a new life. Lini was even more surprised when the Queen offered Lini a life long pension for all her service she did to the royal family. Lini knew this pension was Vala's last good bye to her.

Vala #3: From Freedom to Prison

6 years later 3 weeks after the death of King Egar

Queen Ganada Silverview, Queen of Ossory and Protector of the dwarfs, sits bored in her throne room listening to her advisors about the problems of the drought. It's not like she doesn't care about it, the problem is, it is a problem that returns every year and every year her advisor have to share their opinion how to handle it best and in the end Ganada just has to decide to do it the same way they did it last year. Ganada doesn't understand why they even have to do that process if everybody already knows the ending. But the only explanation she gets is it is the protocol. As a Queen she should be able to change protocols but like all laws of Ossory a change of protocol needs an agreement of the council of the seven wise dwarfs. So it won't happen. After that meeting she will have to look after her trouble-making half Sister, Crown Princess Vala. Since her father died 3 weeks ago Vala is one big pain in Ganadas neck. She misses most of her meetings with emissaries and is not very cooperative when Canada is trying to find a good husband for her. If Ganada is honest with herself her sister probably did not change it's just that she now is a crown princess and should fulfill more duties. But Vala is the same for years. She reads books and meet's girls.  Right now she is probably in the library or with some daughter of a foreign emissary, instead of being here where she should be. Vala is trawling through the library. Two days ago she heard of an academy in Orilium where they can teach magic. This is what she was looking for.  For as long as Vala can remember her main goal was always to understand Aeldia and everything on it. And when she says anything she means anything. If Vala has to think of one weakness she has then it is that she is obsessed with learning every single thing there is to know.  And now that she heard about that school of magic she has to learn more about it. For that reason Vala spent the last few days in the library, at least the time she had free between royal missions, get to knows with princes who are potential marriage partners, to her sisters and the princes discontent, these meetings end mostly with her flirting with their cute handmaidens and them leaving upset. As much as she enjoys these prince meetings, it still leaves her not nearly enough time to study. But today she is lucky she found a book about the mysterious Orilium Academy. She immediately starts reading in it when one of the queen's guard comes by and tells her: “The Queen wishes to see you, your highness” “Say to my sis that I will be there in fifteenth minutes” Vala says and dives back into the book. “I'm sorry, your highness, but the queen wishes to see you know and gave me order to pull you with me if you don't follow.” the guardsman states. “Okay as fun as it for everybody would be when the princess was pulled behind one of the queen's guard. I think we both prefer if I walk by my own. Then lead me to her.” Vala says to the waiting guard. “As you wish, your highness” the guard says and leads her to her Sister. Entering Ganadas private rooms Vala knows that her Sister might not be in the best mood and is not happy with her. “Hello my dear Sister, How can I help you today.” Vala says as if everything is normal. “Don't dear Sister me after you missed the big meeting with the advisors this morning” Ganada said trying to suppress her anger. “Oh was that this morning sis. I'm sorry I thought I had a meeting with some noble prince this evening and had to prepare myself” Vala says calmly. “First of all don't call me sis. You can call me “my Queen” or “Your majesty”. Understand?” Ganada says now without suppressing any anger and adds before Vala could answer “Secondly what do you even need to prepare for your meeting with Prince Nigewin? With which of his servants do you want to sleep this time?” Vala had to suppress a smile and then says: “I'm so sorry to disappoint you, my Queen, and prince Nigewin. I would very much like to not disappoint you. So how about we give the prince a good evening with good food and a nice dinner companion.” Vala says and makes a little break before she adds: “And I meet in the meantime his cutest servant and give her a good evening” Vala knew she shouldn't have said that but just couldn't resist. “GO OUT IF YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS TONIGHT WE WILL TALK AGAIN TOMORROW” Ganada shouted. Vala left with a curtsy “As you wish my Queen” Vala says in a normal volume and after turning around adds in whisper:” I guess we talk again tomorrow” Vala back in her room let her guard bring Lini to prepare her for dinner with the prince. Her sister was definitely right Vala was already looking which of the prince's servants she liked most but despite her sister's view on this thing Vala doesn't plan to sleep with any servants most of them are probably not even into women. She only flirts with them lets them blush and annoys the prince with it. She would guess that the princes are mostly jealous anyway. Not about her flirting with the servant and not with them, most of them by now know her interest and want to marry her only for political reason anyway. No, they are jealous that the one servant they probably only hired because of there looks flirts with Vala instead of the prince. While Vala was in thought when Lini, who now that Vala is too old for a nurse took the job as valet of the Crown Princess. “Hey, sweetheart how are you doing?” Lini said lovingly. “I'm good thanks I finally found a book about Orilium I was able to take it with me before my dear sis called me to her.” Vala told Lini. “Good to hear. But I was talking about the rumor that the Queen threw you out of her room and was pretty angry with you.” Lini said. “Oh, you mean that. Yeah, she was not the biggest fan of sending a nice dinner companion to the prince while I had some fun with his handmaiden.” Vala laughs. “Vala you should really be more respectful to your sister she is Queen now and she no longer can ignore if you disrespect her all the time. You might force her to punish you.” Lini adds sadly sounding to the discussion. “Have no worry dear Lini. Ganada won't do anything she just needs me to get out her frustration of the rest of her day. Anyway Lini I need you to prepare me for the dinner tonight I need to look my best if I want to blush that girl she looks like she is not as inexperienced as other ones” Lini only rolled her eyes and said:” So you already found your woman of the evening” “Lini you should know me. When do I go unprepared into an evening like that.” The next morning Vala has like expected a Queen's guard waiting for her who leads her directly to the Queen. “Good morning sister. I assume you heard about last night's dinner?” Vala asks innocently. “Oh don't even talk I have no time for your crap. So you go out of that discussion with me yesterday  and go directly to seduce a random handmaiden of the prince?” Ganada asked rhetorically. “Oh, that's just not true. First of all, Tri was not a “random” handmaiden, she was carefully chosen. Second I did seduce nobody. Tri is even married and definitely not into women.” Vala clarified “So you want to say you didn't flirt with her last night?” Ganada asks provokingly. “Ha flirt I did indeed, and to be honest with you she was a pretty hard challenge I needed to pull pretty much all stops to get her to blush. I nearly...”-” STOP IT, you let down your duty and instead are only hanging around in the library and flirt with women all around the court. Since you are not a responsible person I will take all rights of you to freely roam the castle. Guards will bring you to meeting and back to your room otherwise you stay there.” Ganada ordered. “So I get grounded from my sister? My Younger sister?” Vala knew that last part was too much but she was also pretty angry now. “I'm not your Sister you are just the daughter of some dirty lowborn who wanted to trick my father to get to wealth. And yes you are grounded and I might as well keep you grounded until you are married, maybe then you will try harder with the princes! Guards bring her to her room. She is not to leave until I call for her.” And with that Vala was brought into her now prison of a room.

Vala #2: Vala’s New Life

6 Years Later

Vala reading a work about Notwen's four laws of physic, when a soft voice said lovingly “Oh sweetheart sometimes I feel like nothing changed in the last 6 years.” “Hi, Lini, did you think I would abandon my books when I'm no longer crown princess? That was as likely as that I would abandon you, my dear Lini. And things did change. For one I'm now finally free to do my own experiments.” Vala answered her nurse. “Your right dear, things did change you no longer a child and I'm proud of what got out of you,” Lini said while stroking her cheek lovingly. “Ha, you are probably the only one who is proud of what I became. And even you can't stop complaining about all the friends I meet. That's one thing where you and my father agree. Father would be happy for me to no longer meet any girls just because it worsens his chances to marry me off to some faraway prince.” Vala says smiling. “Okay girl. First of all good luck trying to marry you to anybody you don't want. I pity that fool of a prince who has to marry you.”Lini says and then adds in a firmer voice” I don't disagree that you meet friends if you want  to call all these girls that, I disagree with you just using them, like some little spoiled brat who doesn't respect what she already has.” “You make it sound like I'm just some trophy hunter who goes through girl after girl. But like I explained to you many times. It's not like the girls don't get anything from it. I'm a princess” “oh you are didn't notice that” Lini interrupted with a sarcastic tone. Vala gave Lini an annoyed look and continuous ”Yes Lini I am and this girl wants to use the fact that I'm a princess to get themselves in a good position. I give them their chance, and in return, I can enjoy some time with beautiful girls in beautiful fabrics, oh not to forget I get most of them  their own beautiful fabrics so one thing more they get from me.” “Like I said spoiled brat!” Lini says and turns around to go. “Yes go you can't disrespect me like that” Vala let out louder than she wanted to. Lini turns around and looks Vala in the eyes: “Why shouldn't I be able to 'disrespect' you like that. Do you think just because you are a Princess nobody is allowed to call you a spoiled brat when you behave like a spoiled brat? Just cause your father doesn't care enough to give you some actual manners and remind you that you still have to follow some rules. That doesn't mean nobody can teach you that!” Lini said in a firm but calm voice. “Anyway dinner is in an hour I come back then maybe you remembered your manners by then.” With that Lini left the room and Vala was now alone with her thoughts and tears overwhelmed her. “I'm no spoiled brat, am I?  I'm just realistic, they should I grow any attachment to anybody if nobody cares for me as a person anyway. This attachment thing seems like a sure they into getting disappointed and hurt. Wait I'm wrong there is one person who cares about me as a person and I just upset her. I guess I messed up, I need to give Lini a big apology.” An hour later Lini came back to get Vala ready for dinner. Vala knew what she had to do. “Lini your back I'm really really sorry. I didn't want to disrespect you. You are the most important person in my life and I hate it when I upset you. I don't want you to hate me. I love you Lini.” She says and embraces her nurse “Oh Sweetheart I could never hate you even if you act like a spoiled brat, you are still my sweet little Vala. Who I love like a daughter. If you think you have to behave like a spoiled brat to protect your feeling then I have to accept it. I hope one day you find somebody who is truly important to you and you will be open to getting them to know. But now we need to make you ready for your date. You look awful, let me help you freshen you up” Lini helped Vala to put her in a nice dress for dinner and fixing her make-up and hair. While doing so Lini has to think “What a poor girl, if only her real family would care about her. If I'm honest with myself here in the palace the girl is probably right and most people just want to use her as a princess and don't care about the girl that is behind her. I just hope she someday can leave this hell and find somebody real” After they were finished Lini led Vala to the dining hall where Valas date was already waiting. The Human girl, daughter of an emissary from Kerador was dressed in a purple dress ornate with diamonds. “This is most likely a dress Vala bought her. That girl really likes purple.” Lini thought to herself with a smile “Dinner will be served when you ready, your highness. I will leave you two some privacy. Just call me if you need something, my princess.” Lini said and then with a curtsy to Vala and the girl she saw herself off with a last: “Your majesty, my lady” and closed the door behind her. Vala always complained about how formal Lini was with her in public. But Lini insisted on keeping up the formality. What would others think if a lowly nurse addresses a Princess by name?

Vala #1: Crown Princess No More

Princess Vala Silverview sits in her room and reads in her school book about the history of Daerune.  Tomorrow is the day of Vala's 12th birthday, the day where she will officially be announced as the Crown Princess of the Kingdom of Ossory. “Are you again lost in your books, dear? “ a calm voice said. Vala didn't hear anybody enter her room, but she is not surprised to hear Lini her personal nurse “Lini I'm sorry, I didn't hear you knock” “You wouldn't even hear if the whole city is exploding while you read. How are you today?” Lini asks caring. “I feel good. I guess the King has finally found a way to get me out of the succession line for the throne? He took long enough I started to worry that he finds no way and tomorrow I had to become a crown princess.” Vala says with a chuckle. “Yes, he found a way.  The council of the seven wise dwarfs just officially announced that they found a mistake in your and your sister's birth certificate. You are now officially two days younger and she is one day older.” Lini disclosed. 'This means I'm now officially one day younger than Ganada and she will become heir to the throne and not I.' Vala thought. Ganada was Vala's half-sister. While Ganada was the daughter of King Egar and Queen Mita, Vala was the dirty child that accidentally was created in a moment of weakness by the drunk King and a lowborn named Sunni, who was one of his valets. Vala's mother died two days after Vala's birth. Since by Ossory Law the child always takes on the status of the higher set parent, Vala was by law princess and since she was two days older than her half-sister, she was the legitimate heir to the throne. That was until today where the “corrected” birth certificate made Ganada the oldest child of the King and heir to the Ossory throne. Maybe this would improve her bad relationship with her family. For her father Vala was always a reminder of his mistake, her long brown hair didn't help to hide this when everybody else in the royal family had silver hair. Her stepmother outright hated her and never tried to hide this. For Queen Mita, Vala was not only a consequence and reminder of her husband's disloyalty but also somebody who stole her daughter's rightful place as heir of the King. And Ganada hated her if for nothing else than that she was always told that she had to hate her “sister”. Vala herself had many moments where she wished her mother was alive or that her father showed any signs of love for her or that her sister ignored what she was told and played with her lonely sister. The only thing that helped her through these hard days was sweet Lini, who was like a mother to her. But now she was no longer successor for the throne and might start a new leaf in her life. No longer will she be restricted by all the things that are unworthy of a future Queen. She looked forward to that day since Lini first prepared her that they might do this and now that the day was finally here she felt nothing but happiness. “Thank you, Lini for this wonderful news,” Vala said and gave her nurse a bear hug. “I thought you would like to hear that sweetheart” Lini answered with a smile on her lips.

Vala’s Backstory

Vala Silverview, Crown Princess of Ossory

Vala grew up as the daughter of the dwarf king Egar Silverview and his concubine Sunni a lowborn dwarf woman. Due to her lowborn heritage Vala, was endured at the royal court and had a status of a princess, but unlike her 2 day younger halfsister Ganada, heir to the throne, she was always the dark spot in her fathers past. She was the mistake that lead to a dirty child that through the old laws even should be heir to the King, since the old law don't distinguish between a child born to a lowborn mother or to a noble mother, since she would always inherit the higher of the two status. This makes her by law Princess, but by nowadays custom, she was only a daily reminder that the King betrayed the Queen with some lowborn Woman, even her hair, that is brown and not the royal silver, shames Vala everyday.  Vala never got to know her mother who died 2 days after Valas birth. Her father mostly ignored her and her sister hated her just because she was taught to hate her since Vala can remember. For that reason Vala doesn't hate Ganada, no matter how bad Ganada was to Vala. She didn't loved her but there was no hate for her half sister. Her nurse Lini, who was like a mother to Vala, always told her don't hate your sister she is also only a victim of the circumstances. Despite everything her father tried, he never was able to change the law for the heir of the throne. The council of the seven wise dwarfs always insisted that by the old law, that can only be changed if every dwarf in the council agrees to it. A case that never happened in the whole history of the Council of the seven wise Dwarfs. So 1 day before her 12 Birthday Vala was by law still crown princess of the kingdom. The 12th  Birthday of the Heir is the day was when the heir was officially announce and after that it can not be changed anymore. But Lini prepared Vala good for that day so it was no surprise to her that on the day before her birthday the chief clerk of his majesty found a mistake in the two birth certificates of the princesses. The new „real“ birth certificates said that Ganadas birthday was 1 day earlier then always thought and Valas 2 days later. How that mistake could happen would always stay a mystery, but rumors were that Valas lowborn mother faked the birthday and actually died on the day of Valas birth. Vala herself was not unhappy about this accident now she finally could live the life she ever wanted and nobody cared what she would do. She dived into science and found new friends around lower nobles. She soon discovered her magic abilities and started to study them unlike her other science project with a very limited success. She knew if she wanted to get better in magic she had to visit Oriliums academy, but with her now very sick father wouldn't allowed her to she leave the palace. And even with all the negative feeling she had about her father she couldn't betray him, when it could be the last thing she ever did to him. Her fathers condition got slowly worse and 20 year old Ganada was now by all but title ruling the kingdom. In Valas 22nd live year her father died after a 2 year long fight and her sister officially was announced Queen. But since her sister was still unmarried and without child this made Vala officially crown princess again. Ganada now hated Vala even more and didn't allowed her to continue her science experiments since it is unworthy of a crown princess and puts her in a bad light. Vala now knew if she wanted her old live back she had to one find her sister a husband and look that they get an heir fast or two ran away from her home and leave everything back. Vala choose option two and decided this was the time to try herself as a wizard at Orilium.

Vala Silverview, Crown Princess of Ossory

Vala is a dwarf royal from the small country Ossory in Daerune. Vala born to a lowborn Mother, who died shortly after Valas birth, was never really accepted as a real family member. So she grew up with only her nurse Lini as mother figure. Lini became for Vala the one loving family member she could always relay on. With Vala getting older she got more and more into science and set herself the goal to know and understand everything she sees. This also includes people, that lead her fast to the insight “People will use her since she is a princess”. The only person she can really trust is her nurse Lini. And since people will want to use her anyway Vala saw never a problem with „being used  as a Princess“ if she in exchange can get something out of it herself. Most of this „deals“ included women of the court who got new dresses and an evening with the princess. A behavior that was not liked by her father and her sister. But her live changed when her father died and her sister became queen. Vala was now Crown Princess and lost her freedoms. That was when Vala decided it was time to leave Ossory and learn about the one thing she never understood, Magic. The day she made that decision she was already on the way to the Orilium Academy.
