Shards Chapter 10

And it seems like something's wrong with Tony. 

 Perhaps the engineer's secrets are bigger than they seem. 

Here’s a summary for those who were unable to read the chapter due to content warnings:

- There’s a war meeting where Justin Hammer is suspiciously calm and cocky. 

- The ‘weapon’ Hydra has been hiding is a portal. When it opens and the Chitauri flow through, Tony goes to Bucky and takes the majority of his magic, and then flies to the battlefield to take out the hive mind. 

- Steve misinterprets Iron Man’s actions and assumes he’s part of Hydra, and stabs Tony in the chest. Tony drops the armour, then destroys the hive mind by using his arc reactor equivalent as a bomb. 

- There are flashbacks revealing that Obie tricked Tony into setting off the Jericho in a city of innocent people, resulting in the huge amount of magic Tony has had this whole time. 

- Steve makes it to Tony’s side in time for Tony to die. 

... I’m sorry. But remember, the Temporary Character Death tag is there for a reason ;)

idk, i guess infixes are technically inflectional morphemes so '-fucking-' doesn't count so i'm probably gonna have to go with '-ness'. it's just so fucking VERSATILE.

-fucking- is such a good infix though and tehre are so many good combinations like un-fucking-necessary ahahahaha

Sometimes I really want to share the comments I've gotten, or tell people how excited I am because a fic I wrote is doing better than I expected, but I'm worried that it's super rude. I see a lot of people comparing themselves to other authors and I really don't want to be the person people compare themselves to - I just wanna share my excitement. Do you think it's possible to do so without hurting people, or should I just keep it to myself?

On the one hand, you really can’t make yourself responsible for the emotional well-being of everyone around you. That’s just going to lead you to exhaustion.  On the other hand, you’re right. It’s important to think about how our actions affect others. It’s a fine line to walk between the two, but it’s doable.

I think you could make a post thanking everyone who has read your story or being excited about the response to your story? You might want to leave out the numbers, though. As you might have noticed through the asks on this blog, people tend to get really caught up in the numbers and stats, so making a post with numbers in it might cause more friction than a more general statement. 

Does anyone else have suggestions for this situation?

I don't have much of a following here on tumblr, but I have plenty of subscribers for my first major fic on AO3. It's about 3 chapters from ending, and suddenly I'm feeling worried about how I'm gonna nail the climax. I want to ask someone to be a beta, or at least a soundboard, but I haven't really got any immediate options. Should I ask some of my regular readers, or would that spoil the fic for them? Should I ask for volunteers at the end of the next chapter? Or should I just write it alone?

I can’t answer for your readers, but I know that I read fic with a different eye when I’m beta’ing for someone. I’m pretty carefree when I’m just reading, but when I go into beta-mode, I have a much more critical eye. 

But would it ruin it? I think it depends on the person.

No need to go it alone, however.

You could certainly ask about it in your endnotes. Lots of readers are also writers and many of them enjoy beta’ing. You’ve got a pool of people there who are clearly interested in your fandom/pairing.

Aside from that, there are also tumblrs who offer beta-reading for their preferred fandom. If you’re part of a large fandom, you might want to check tags and see if anyone is offering atm.
