"Giving in to one's dark side never accomplishes anything." (more moral advice from an annoying cousin #yolo)
Once Upon a Time starter sentences
Pausing only a moment, enough to let the satisfied smile flit across his lips, in unsheathing his sword, Curufin turned around to give his cousin an only marginally smug look. "You just couldn't restrain yourself, could you, Fingon? Is it not enough that you don't have to dirty your hands with traitor's blood yourself, that I have kindly offered to do the deed for you?"
He stepped closer, the pale metal of his blade glinting naked in the dim and dimming light as the last dredges of sunlight faded from the sky, retreating in the face of the aggressive night, and there was a similar glint in his gray eyes, but colder. "I feel for you, my lord. It must be a great burden, the responsibility that faces you. It never faced me so starkly, but that does not mean I cannot sympathize. I do this out of charity -- not petty revenge."
Sometimes lies tasted bitter, and fell heavy and callous from the unwilling tongue and numbed, trembling lips. But sometimes they tasted sweet -- like victory. Like vengeance.
"You can be excused for just about anything if you are a hero, because no one asks inconvenient questions.”
“They don’t ask inconvenient questions if you succeed, you mean,” Maedhros replied with a small sigh. “If you accomplish what they wanted, there’s really nothing to complain or ask about, least of all the methods you used. But if you’ve made a mistake, no matter how pure your intentions truly were, you’re suddenly subjected to scorn and condemnation. Though…” He frowned. “No, I suppose you are right. People don’t really ask things either way: they just yell.”
Do you love me?
The knife against the cutting board was a rhythmic and calming sound. She enjoyed the prep work that went into cooking meals, the measuring and organization was soothing to her. While she had normally cooked for just herself, she did not mind making extra to accommodate Fingon since he had unofficially moved in with her. She had the space and quite frankly, his actual home was vile.
The question caught her off guard and she paused before pushing the diced onions off to the side into their own neat pile. "Come again?"
"Do you love me," Fingon repeated and she swore she could hear the smile in his tone before she saw it. Turning to face him, sure enough it was there.
"What brought that on?" she pressed, turning back to her work so she was able to rinse the onions from her fingers before continuing on. Most importantly, she was curious if he was looking to tease her or for a serious answer.
There was a new rhythmic sound, heels tapping against the cabinets and his thumbs against the counter. Ah, so he was getting impatient. With a huff, she turned and did not bother to wipe any excess water from her hands before cupping both of his cheeks. She tipped his head lower so she was able to press a kiss to his brow.
"Of course I do, but even that does not give you the freedom to sit on the counters without proper pants. Hop down or no supper," she grinned even as she turned once more to return to her work. "I could use a hand with this anyways."
”Fear cuts deeper than swords.”
"P-perhaps that is why I am always all in pieces... I am always afraid."
[Yesterday, we drove through several bands of what I can only describe as white-out blizzard like conditions, making the 8ish hour drive I expected more like 10 plus.
I tell you, though -- forging onward through frozen, blinding blowing snow, no sense of just how much longer it's going to last, no sense of just how long it'll take to reach safety and warmth and rest, only knowing you can't go back and you can't stop so you just have to go on ... !
I'm sorry, Fingon.
I mean, Caranthir still doesn't give a shit, but hey.
"There is a sweet innocence about you."
Círdan was about to take a bite of his dinner but he paused with his mouth wide open and his fork only halfway to its destination. Did he really hear that accurately? A silver brow arched before he glanced sidelong to his newfound friend and ally.
Slowly he lowered his fork back to his plate and shifted in his seat so he could face Fingon all the better. "A sweet innocence?" he echoed, torn between confusion and wanting to laugh.
"I suppose it best to be thought of as sweet and innocent," a chuckle escaped at last and he relaxed more into his seat. "It makes others more inclined to trust me or to give me a chance while it makes my foes less inclined to be wary of me as they should. It works in my favor either way."
