The white dead-nettle’s (Lamium album) native habitat is the mountains of eastern Europe and western Asia, but it has spread throughout Europe with people a long time ago. Its flowers have been used to treat many ailments, and its young leaves can be used in salads or other foods. It prefers nitrogenous soil and can therefore often be found growing next to stinging nettles. Their leaves look very much alike, but white dead-nettles do not sting. Especially bumblebees are attracted to the flowers, which is why the plant is sometimes called the bee nettle.
