I actually spoke about Naoto’s name before, but that was a long time ago. So here I go!

“Shirogane” (白鐘= literally means “White Bell”. However, it is pronounced the same as the Japanese word for “Platinum” and an old word for “Silver”. This will be important in a moment. 

“Naoto” (直斗 ) is harder to translate, since the first Kanji has multiple meanings and the second one is more or less meaningless when used in a name. It’s usually given to mean “Honest” or “Good Person”, but the first Kanji can also mean “healing”, “repair” or “soon”. The second Kanji is meaningless in names and only used for its sound, but can be taken to mean the constellation “Big Dipper”. 

However, now we get to the TRUE meaning of Naoto’s name: It’s actually an elaborate reference to the Super Sentai Franchise! 

Specifically, the name is taken from two successive 6th rangers in the franchise that were on TV around the time Naoto, canonically, would’ve been at the prime-age to watch those shows: Naoto Takizawa from “Mirai Sentai Timeranger” and Shirogane from “Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger”. (You might know them as the Quantum Ranger from Time Force and the Silver Ranger from Wild Force.)

This just goes to show how important Naoto’s closet-nerdiness was to the developers; They even put it in her name! (And, of course, she ends up being a “Sixth Ranger” of sorts herself-)

Yu has at least one moment of going. “Wow dad just kept cheating on mom” and then “actually I can totally believe that” and then is just like. “Welp, time to adopt.”

Futaba isn’t like super excited to be around Yu at first but as he helps out around Leblanc they get to know each other and become pretty chill

Goro is not super psyched to find out he is a middle child but Yu is insistent like “our dad sucks so I’m gonna make it up to you” and he’s Yu so he’s annoyingly nice and they get along really well.

Yu invites them both to Inaba and they really like it and the IT are super nice and they all have a good time and Dojima’s like “I have adopted two more kids, it seems”

Sojiro is also like “I guess I’ve adopted two more kids”

They have joint custody
