GOD AU! /bangs pots and pans back

-Manifests chiefly as an enormous one-eyed old man in a well-worn suit of armor, or as a likewise towering golden-haired young man in gleaming plate. He has other shapes that have been lost to mortal memory. Not all of them are human.
-He is, in one form or another, a very, very old god. As long as there have been settlements there’s been war, and as long as there’s been war there’s been conquest. His role as a protector is actually a comparatively new development; his truest roots are as a conqueror and he’s never quite forgotten that part of himself.
-Though even in his newest incarnation he’s been around long enough to have basically fallen out of popular memory. At least knowingly. His altars, where they even stand at all, are badly neglected but there are still plenty of places where grandparents still traditionally celebrate the birth of a new grandchild by gifting the baby something with a lion on it.
-Still actively worshipped almost exclusively by soldiers, and a very small percentage of them at that. Nobody ever talks about it (for good reason) but it isn’t terribly unusual to find a few long iron nails hammered into the wall at the back of any given barracks, scraps of paper scrawled with prayers for strength and victory wrapped around them and tied with red string.
-”Mostly forgotten” does not mean “powerless”, however, and anyone invoking him would be wise to remember that…
