@vamdeggmon
your plan to make me click the deactivate button is being well executed
Would you say high rollers is closer Taz or Cr in terms of flow? I tried cr but couldn't sit through it.
I would put it solidly in-between the two, but still closer to Critical Role than TAZ.
High Rollers is, like CR, wholly live, and the thing that makes TAZ flow significantly faster is the fact that they pre-record and edit their episodes so you don’t end up hearing all the underpinnings and mechanical details that go into an RPG session and get more story focus.
That said, High Rollers episodes are still significantly shorter that Critical Role ones -- their average episode is about three hours total, and that includes the announcements at the beginning, donation break in the middle, and some more donations and game chat at the end. There’s probably about two and a half hours of actual game/episode content in each episode, which is closer in length to a TAZ episode than it is to most Critical Role ones.
Basically, the rhythm of each episode is closer to Critical Role, but the episode length is closer to The Adventure Zone. I could definitely see High Rollers working better for someone who can’t focus on a whole Critical Role episode, but I could also see it posing similar problems if the pacing itself is the issue. I guess it probably comes down to exactly how those factors interact for you (if shorter episodes help with focus regardless of pacing, vs if length isn’t really the problem to begin with), as well as if the show and characters grab you enough to make listening feel more engaging. I know I fall in that camp, but it also super varies from person to person, which is fair.
Let me know if you have other High Rollers questions (like about different places to start, or if things pick up at a certain point)! I would obviously love for more people to get into it, but I also get that it can be a real challenge and it’s not for everyone.

Yeah. It's a bit of a mess. Both sides are a mess. I don't see a lot of both sides, I curate who I follow carefully, but I see it tangentially and that's bad enough.
@vamdeggmon (aaa sorry I forgot to ping last time)
Yeah I got you. It’s hard to regulate the stuff you see on tumblr sometimes. I’ve had to unfollow some people who I genuinely enjoyed following just because they kept getting in those wall of text fandom fights all the time ;-;
