People might assume that immortality would make for a perpetually glamorous existence...traveling, seeing the world, not being bogged down by basic human physical needs. And sometimes that was the way it went. But most times...more of life was spent finding ways to live comfortably, and consistently, until the next round of nomad roaming had to begin.
When the Hardy family first turned, and became the Hardy clan, they originally couldn’t do permanence. They wandered because they had to, never drawing attention to themselves with their feeding habits, never risking the wrath of the Volturi.
But then Carlisle Cullen and his family helped them. Changing to the diet of animal blood made all the difference--they could choose places they liked, where the weather allowed them to be outside now and then around humans, and they could stay. And most recently, in the mid 2010s, that led them to settling in the adorable small town of Forks, Washington. It was quaint to a postcard degree, almost obnoxiously so, but it worked.
Fenton was officially titled a private investigator, but in the context of such a tiny city, that meant he was basically a police consultant. And he was fine with that. Laura took a job at the local library and became an instant hit with the local moms and young kids. Aunt Trudy hadn’t come with them--she was still in Denali, for now.
To make it work, this time, the "kids” went with high school. Frank and Taylor enrolled as sophomores, and Joe as a freshman, and they kept their heads down and did their schoolwork, all of which was old-hat to them, living through the repetition of their high school years yet again. Two years went by uneventfully, and finally Frank and Taylor were rising seniors, staying quiet while their peers began talking excitedly about their college hopes and plans.
