OH HEY LOREN, YES LET’S TALK ABOUT VAMPIRE REID!!
Okay so like, I have a couple different AU’s when it comes to the team and being Vampires or other supernatural stuff. But for a very generic Vampire AU, here are my headcanons:
Spencer was turned into a Vampire by Tobias when he “brought him back” with “CPR.” (Tobias bit him, then fed his own blood back to Reid with a “kiss of life” aka CPR).
Spencer didn’t know he was a vampire for two weeks after being saved. Yes, he was still taking Dilaudid, but it wasn’t doing anything for him. He thought he was experiencing some form of withdrawal from not getting enough of the drug into his system. He went out to buy Heroin to see if it could stave off the “withdrawal” symptoms (always starving, nausea, pounding headaches, aching gums ((which was a weird one)), feeling weak and dizzy).
It wasn’t until his third week, when he awoke in an alleyway in the middle of D.C., a barely alive stranger in his lap with puncture wounds on their neck, and their blood in his mouth, that Reid realized what he was. He called an ambulance and fled the scene, arriving home rather shaken and shocked.
It took months for him to come to terms with what he was. He did his research, he found as much as he could on Vampires (both online and in books at the library).
It took less time for Penelope to figure him out. She’s the only one who knows his secret, and she promises to keep it until her dying breath. It’s nice to have someone know, though, because then he has someone to talk about it with.
Plus Penny can “magically” get him blood without any questions. He decided a long time ago not to ask.
Reid’s vampirism comes with some cool benefits tho. Like the usual super strength and speed (not overly so, this isn’t Twilight, but it’s definitely not “human” either). He can also heal ungodly fast, and he’s experimented with compulsion. <- He’s not very good at it, but if he focuses hard enough he can get a LEO to do something for him, not questions asked. Or get an UNSUB to tell the truth. This takes a lot of energy tho, so he doesn’t do it often.
He has discovered that the sun bothers his eyes more than ever before, but otherwise it doesn’t hurt him. He can eat food just fine (garlic included). But something super fucking annoying that seemed to be true when it came to vampires, is the being invited into domains. Public places are fine, but the second he tries to set foot into someone’s home, it’s like his body is physically repulsed backwards. He hates this. Also the counting thing- he thought his special interest in math and numbers before was bad, now it’s literally debilitating at times. JJ dropped some coins on the floor once and Reid couldn’t focus on anything until he picked up every single one, counting both how many coins there were, as well as how much they added up to. It was ridiculous. ($33.23 by the way).

let me start by linking to my hc of how reid turned, and my hc of the team finding out :)
more vamp!reid hc’s
-> yes, he has 3 phd’s. no, he didn’t get them in the same few years as we’re led to believe. he started acquiring his education in the 50s and it takes him just as long as most people. the only thing is, he can’t exactly explain that fact without giving his immortal status away.
-> he does have an exceptional memory and he can process data at lightening speeds. but this is a skill he’s spent greatly the majority of his life (even as a human) perfecting. as a child, and then as a live-in servant, he only had minimal downtime to enjoy his books. so he learnt to read and comprehend data exceptionally fast. this skill, ofc, developed into lightening speed level as immortality gave him excess time to perfect it.
-> he doesn’t sleep in a coffin, despite what myth states. he also enjoys garlic, checks himself out in every reflection he passes, and goes to church when he needs to (for a case or a wedding or a baptism or anything like that, and the occasional moments he needed guidance). contrary to popular belief, he doesn’t always need expressed permission to enter a privately owned property. typically he only finds resistance to crossing the threshold of a house without being invited in, if the house knows/has known magic. meaning the occupants either practise magic, or a previous occupants have practised magic, or even the land the house sits has been a sight for magic. in this scenarios, yes he must be invited in by the owner. thankfully his job requires occupants of homes to invite them in before they’re allowed inside anyway.
-> he once tried to delete an old archived file from the 60s where he appeared in photos as a spectator. he couldn’t work out how to bypass the security of it all so he just went in through the html and corrupted the entire file. once the team find out abt him, he tells garcia and she restores the file but deletes that one photo of him.
-> he joined the fbi by a total fluke. but he figured, what the heck. why not. he’s fully aware the federal government know about vampires and will not hesitate to capture one for scientific research, but he loves the thrill of walking into his office everyday wondering if today is the day he’ll be vervained and taken away.
-> hes not the only vampire in the fbi. let alone in the us government.
-> the team finding out was a huge leap of faith. only hotch, rossi, morgan, jj, emily, and garcia know he’s a vampire. when the others join the team, they’re not told. he only came clean to his team after 10 years of knowing them. he’s not about to tell people he’s known a few months or a year or two.
-> he turned his mother the moment he got back to the states. however, due to her mental health conditions, she’s completely unaware of their immortality. when she does have small pockets of realisation and mentions anything revealing, her claims are overlooked as the ramblings of a paranoid schizophrenic.
-> his biggest regret is not being able to have a family of his own biologically. nor does he ever expect someone to want to raise children with him.
-> he does consider himself a monster as he knows the demon inside him can, at any moment, consume him in full and he will become the nightmare told around camp fires.
-> he has a chest freezer full of blood bags he gets from the university hospitals and blood collection clinics. its risky work, but he’s compelled the help of a handful of people to achieve this.
-> at present, his ‘daylight’ ring is his wrist watch with the base of the watch being lined with lapis lazuli. before that, he wore (and still occasionally wears) this ring:

Btw, thinking of Spencer turning around season 2 even though the timeline wouldn't match with Rossi joining the BAU.. but let's ignore that bc its my au so !!
Like imagine Rossi teaching Spencer all about being a vampire bc he js got turned and Rossi is like hundreds of years old so he obviously knows much more. Also he doesn't want Spencer to struggle as much as he did when he was just turned.
Rossi telling Spencer all about the myths there are about vampires and how they aren't true or how it actually is.
Ex. Not being able to go inside someones home without permission. You can just walk in, but its impolite, vampire or not..
Or garlic being deathly to vampires. It really isn't. Its either a non deadly allergy or it just makes them sick ! Depends on something that Rossi doesn't remember (I can't decide)
Rossi gets sick when he eats it, which really pisses him off, but it doesn't stop him! He will eat garlic cuz fuck that! (me with my lactose intolerance)
Oh and to keep his fangs in check, they tend to peak out in certain situations. Either when he smells blood he likes or feels threatened. Also when he he's around someone he's attracted to, but he learns to control that more.
Also telling him the best places to get blood, what to avoid in a blood place (shop?), or blood in general. Not that it matters, Spencer would rather die than drink someones random blood, no matter how many tests they had to go through in order to donate.
Which is why he doesn't usually feed much and instead rather starve for weeks until either hes forced to drink a blood pouch or someone close offers him their own !
Rossi teaching Spencer how to transform into a bat, which takes ages because Spencer just can't seem to transform. At one point they thought maybe he couldn't, until one day something just click and he transformed!
Except Spencer got too excited and transformed back.. its okay eventually he learns to transform quickly.
Then Rossi having to teach him to fly as a bat. And since Spencer loves physical activity, and is great at all that stuff, it was easy! (it took even longer to teach him how to fly well, and he still struggles)
Still, Rossi has patience with him. After all Spencer has always been like a son to him, and even more now that they're both vampires.
Sometimes Rossi tells Spencer how easy he has it being a vampire because "back in his day, they were chased around with stakes and shit" (Based on this post!!)
