maybe there’s some sort of emotional through line with overcoming grief by experiencing death? so yeah him learning to be a vampire could be part of it but i also think helena should have more agency
ooh yes agency is good. maybe jame has just died and helena is experiencing a free life for the first time. she’s basically royalty so her reputation usually precedes her and all the other vampires here are obsessed with her but don’t actually know her. mark makes her feel seen because he doesn’t know anything about her family.
i also think it’s important that she has never turned anyone before. maybe she wasn’t allowed to? idk why but ig jame was strict like that. maybe lineage is important. so she’s never been around a baby vampire before and is learning as she goes with how to teach him.
mark processes the grief of handover through death is so good. i’m imagining him totally getting off to his own funeral. he and helena ads watching from a distance and she keeps having to elbow him to stop laughing. but dw he’ll tell devon he’s still around…. as soon as the funeral ends 🤣
by not putting two and two together i mean vampirism! i lovee mark getting jealous and ending the guy helena brings out and then her feeding him said mans blood from her mouth wow…
and oh he’d toss those pills away immediately and dramatically and jump her bones nonstop the entire house would be absolutely destroyed with how rough they are

he’s enamored by looks, the way she moves, her pointy smile, even her coppery smell. he couldn’t forget her. but he didn’t put it together that she wasn’t human.
awe maybe the first time they meet, she gets him outside and is about to kill him but is momentarily caught off guard when he compliments her teeth and points out that his are pointy too. and she’s so charmed.
i’d love to get this oneshot written at some point! maybe it should start at the bar rather than that being a flashback? it’s getting so developed now. or maybe we have a cold open in medias res at the graveyard where he’s crying like a prologue and then we go back. okay now this is sounding like chapters 🤣🤪🤪 idk!! i still need a plot for all this to happen around. is the plot just him learning to be a vampire? i like to have an emotional issue to solve… his emotional thing is getting over his divorce but helena needs one too as i’m picturing this from her POV

oh that’s so cute…. his old creaky knees are suddenly good as new and he can run like he used to in high school. even when he falls to the ground (helena must run after him and tackle him right?) it doesn’t hurt! all his aches and pains are gone and he doesn’t even need his reading glasses. and yeah he doesn’t need the blue pills anymore and go for agesssss 😏
and i think teaching him to hunt would be such a comedy of errors. he’s so scared and finds new and amazing ways to keep fucking up. she finally go back into their same bar and brings out a guy who’s super into her. when he gets his hands all over her mark goes crazy and ends him. but still is nervous to drink so she drinks first and then holds it in her mouth and gives it to mark with a kiss. after one taste he goes crazzyyyy again!
and dw i have zero outline for this, only a few sparse ideas, so i dont mind being steered!
though i do think he might recognize her from the bar. she’s just so ethereally beautiful like no mortal person is. and if she brought him outside to drink from him and then decided she couldn’t because she liked him too much… he’d remember being brought outside to presumably make out or go home with someone like her. but he wouldn’t know she’d been stalking him since that night 😆
corpse bride is so helena coded if you think about it there’s so many devastating lines that could be dropped in.. “you’re the other woman” “i could never marry you” “i love you but you’re not mine”
however these are so tragic and angsty and i’d kms so let’s forget that half of the movie exists 🙏🏻 happy stockholm syndrome yay

he begs to be turned without really knowing what he’s signing up for (mark severing at lumon much?). maybe he’s begging to die and she’s like well i won’t kill you but i can make you UNdead and he doesn’t understand is like sure what the hell
and then he’s somehow trapped into marrying her. maybe he already accidentally asked her before this and she is running with it. he’s mad at first but then she takes care of him so well and he’s actually healing from his heartbreak like he didn’t know he could and is happy again and is finding being a vampire is kind of fun and sexyyy.
vamp helena is so kind for waiting as long as it took for marks relationship to be over and trap him into marrying her awww

maybe it should be gemma divorcing mark so i can say that helena is okay with murder but she crosses the line at betraying the sanctity of marriage vows
yes!! i think it would fit so well into your premise especially with mark still being tied to gemma and helena aching for a real love and maybe there’s a little bit of imarkhelena flare with her falling for him from a distance before she takes the ring as hers
omg omg omg. if you know me you know I LOVE to drop a bunch backstory lore. so i’m in love with this! it would be so cute if she’d been watching him for months. maybe they hang out at the same bar since she can only go out at night. she was planning on him being her next meal but when she was talking with him to lure him outside to drain him… she fell for him 😭 and waited by for his rocky relationship to end so she could swoop in.
this probably isn’t what you’re going for but the grave bit in your vampire fic kinda reminded me of the corpse bride and it gave me a kick

i was going for the over the top comedy of the what we do in the shadows movie, but mark accidentally marrying helena like in the corpse bride is such a good addition. i imagine she has all these noble, ancient vampire men and women asking for her hand but then she shows up to the next vampire party with this baby vampire nobody on her arm that’s afraid of his own non-existent shadow. he didn’t even know what he was getting into but she’s like um you gave me the ring??? we’re married now. and he’s like noo that was the ring gemma gave back to me when we broke up it wasn’t for you. i was trying to bury it. but helena says NO TAKE BACKS haha
