Summary: You just want to live a happy life, but currently, that wasn't happening. It's not until you meet 8 strangers who turn your life upside down and you discover what they are.
“A problem?” You scoff. “Yeah, you could say there is a problem.”
And the problem was your attitude, the fact that you couldn't control your distaste for the eight men who stood in front of you. Also the fact that it felt like your body was slightly, if not completely failing you. You were miserable, in pain and you just wanted it all to end. You wanted to feel better, and go back to being happy.
The smiles on their faces faded awfully quickly as they all realized the situation that you were in. The men looked between each other, looking to see who was going to tell you the information they had found out from Lilith.
“You just left after we…” You trail off, looking at Chan.
“Minho and Felix got some information out of Lilith.” Chan sighs. “That's why I wasn't there when you woke up. We were trying to figure out what to do.” He explains.
“Okay?” You say, still annoyed. “Spit it out.” You snap, looking around at them all.
“The scratches she gave you.” Minho begins, stepping forward. “When she did that she… um..” he pauses. “I'm just going to say it.” He sighs. “They're killing you.”
“What?” You whisper. “How?”
“It must be some kind of bacteria.” Changbin says.
“It's poisoning your blood. Your organs are shutting down.” Minho finishes.
“Oh.” You whisper, stumbling back to the couch. You sit down, feeling like the room is spinning around you. You figured it might have been an infection of some sort, but nothing like this, nothing like you were dying.
“Antibiotics.” You murmur, feeling a little sense of hope. “I just have to go to the hospital and get some antibiotics.” You say, piping up. “Then I'll be fine.”
How could they have not thought of that? They all looked so worried, but for what? It was all going to be just fine.
“Not for this.” Chan says. “They won't work. Either you die, or you have to be changed.”
“Then change me.” You whisper. Even though you were so fucking mad right now, you couldn't control your tears. “Please.” you sniffle. “I'm not ready to die.”
“We're going to figure this out.” Felix says, sitting beside you. He wraps his arm around your shoulders, pulling you into him.
“But we're not changing you.” Chan says. “That's not happening.”
“I can help you.” You all hear, faintly. The voice travels from the basement, making you all look towards the basement door. “I have the cure.”
“She's lying Seungmin.” Murmurs.
“She has to be.” Changbin agrees.
“I have to find out.” You say, getting up as fast as you can, making your way to the basement door.
“She's the only one offering a solution, other than me just dying.” You snap, pulling your arm away from Chan. You open the basement door, heading down the stairs carefully but quickly. You stand in front of a chained Lilith, listening to the footsteps coming down the stairs behind you.
“How?” You ask. “How can you help me?”
“I'll only tell you for my release.” Lilith smiles. Her smile is terrifying.
You look back at Chan. “Absolutely not.” He says, crossing his arms, and shaking his head.
“Fine. Then watch your precious Y/N die.” She laughs. “I don't care.”
“Chan…” Hyunjin begins. “Maybe we should.”
“So you're just fine with me dying?” You snap at Chan.
“Of course I'm not! But I don't believe her.” Chan responds, glaring at Lilith. “She's a manipulator, and a fucking liar.”
“I don't believe her either.” Seungmin pipes up. “We've known her for a long time. All she does is lie.”
“That hurts me boys.” Lilith sighs. “I've done nothing but love all of you.”
“And there you go lying again.” Jeongin murmurs, rolling his eyes.
“Cut the shit, Lilith.” Han snaps. “How can you help her?”
“Let me go and I'll tell you.” She says.
“I have to go to class.” You say, turning around to go back upstairs. “Figure out if you want to save me or not.” You say, looking at Chan.
You knew the rest of them would release Lilith in a second to heal you, so why wouldn't Chan?
You grabbed your book bag, leaving the house with your mind racing at the fact that you were dying. How could this be happening to you?
You made it to campus, with little to no recollection of how you got there. You'd been so lost in your head you hadn't been paying attention to your steps, making you wonder how you managed to cross the street without getting hit by a car. Not that it mattered anyways, you were already dying.
“Y/N?” You hear.
You look up, seeing Mark hurrying towards you with a worried look on his face. “Are you okay?” He gasps, reaching out for your face. You pull away from him, annoyed that he was even talking to you.
“I'm fine.” You say, trying to walk away from him.
“You don't look fine.” He says, grabbing onto your arm. “What are they doing to you in that house?” He asks.
“This has nothing to do with them. They haven't done anything to me.” You sigh.
“Then what the hell is going on with you?” He asks.
“Why do you even care?” You snap.
“Because I still love you.”
“Well stop.”
“I can't.” He sighs. “Y/N, come back to me.”
“Leave me alone, Mark. I'm not in the mood.”
“Have you gotten checked out?” He asks.
“For fuck sakes, Mark. This isn't anything doctors can fix. I'm late for class.” You say, again trying to walk away from him but again, he won't let you.
“Y/N, please!” He urges.
“Fuck!” You scream. “Im dying, just fucking leave me be!” You cry, ripping your arm away from him. You can't be here. You turn around, walking back to the house instead of going to class. You couldn't do this today. You don't turn around as Mark calls out for you, instead focusing on just making it back to the house.
You open the door, slamming it behind you, dropping your bag onto the floor, ready to fall into a deep depression.
“You're back?” Minho asks, coming around the corner.
“Yeah.” You whisper, hanging your head down. Minho walks up to you, wrapping his arms around you. You melt into his embracing, his scent, his presence, everything was already making you feel better. “Why won't Chan let her go to save me?” You ask.
“He was going too.” Minho replies. “Well he did. He unchained her. She told us that you have to drink her blood and that would heal you.”
You pull away from him, looking hopeful, but he doesn't. He looks to the ground.
“Where is she then? What happened?” You ask.
“We were all coming upstairs, and she got out the basement door. Ripped it right off the hinges, actually.” He says. “She's a lot faster than we are.”
“She's not going to help me?” You gasp. “She did this to me!”
“I know. I'm sorry.” Minho whispers, holding you closer. “She lied. I knew she would. That's what she does.”
“Then you need to change me.” You cry.
“Y/N…” Minho sighs.
“I can't…” you trail off. The world starts to spin, your body feels heavy. Your knees feel weak, you can't hold yourself up any longer. Your chest heaves as you try to catch your breath. You look at Minho, nothing but pure panic setting in. “Help.” You whisper before your body gives out on you, and everything around you goes black.
“Fuck!” Minho yells, holding onto your practically lifeless body. “Guys!”
Seconds later, Seungmin, Han, Felix and Hyunjin rush into the living room.
“What happened?” Seungmin asks, grabbing onto your hand.
“She just collapsed. I don't think we have much time.” Minho breathes. “Where's Chan? We need to make a decision.”
“She can't die. She's the one. We need her.” Han yells.
“I'll call him.” Hyunjin says, pulling out his phone. Chan answers on the first ring. “What happened?”
“It's time. We need to save her. She's fucking dying.”
“I'm on my way.” Chan says, hanging up the phone.
Minho carries you upstairs, midway, the front door swings open, Chan, Changbin and Jeongin rushing into the house and up the stairs as Minho laid you down on the bed.
“Change her. We have too.” Changbin says.
“We can't let her die and we don't have any more time.” Jeongin whispers.
“But changing her?” Chan sighs. “That's going to ruin her life.”
“Her fucking dying is going to ruin her life.” Hyunjin snaps. “And ours. She is our life.”
“I can't believe you're even questioning this.” Changbin yells. “Why are we even arguing about this? Someone fucking do it!”
Minho pushes the men back, climbing on the bed to straddle you. He moves your hair out of the way, turning your head to expose your neck. He can barely feel a pulse, as he lowers his head, opening his mouth. He sinks his teeth into your neck, the venom spilling into your body and into your blood. Chan walks out of the room, leaving the rest of the men standing there.
Minho pulls his teeth out of your neck, slowly licking up the blood spilling out of your puncture wounds.
“How long until we know?” Han asks.
“I don't know. We just have to wait and see.” Minho whispers, grabbing your hand.
All seven men sit around you on the bed, waiting and hoping that they weren't too late to save you.

“Excuse me, are you Mark?”
“Huh?” Mark says, startled. He pulls one headphone out, turning around seeing a beautiful woman standing there, a gorgeous smile with enticing eyes. “Oh, yeah I am. Who are you?” He asks.
“That's not important. What is important is if you want Y/N back?” She asks.
“I do. I just want to keep her safe.” Mark replies.
“That's sweet. I can help you.”
“Why would you want to help me?” He asks, but the woman doesn't answer, yet.
“Go to this address.” She says, handing him a card. “Ask for Lincoln.”
Mark looks at the address before looking back up at the woman. “Why are you helping me?”
“You want Y/N back.” She says. “And I want my boys back.”

A year ago, if someone asked you where you pictured yourself a year later, you would have blushed at the question and immediately began to gush about your boyfriend, Mark. Talking about how you'd be with him, you were going to marry him one day when you both graduated college, and live this blissful, happy life.
What a load of shit.
Here you were, having just had your second anniversary with Mark and you were more miserable than You had ever been in your life. Your relationship with Mark was nowhere near what it used to be, and you didn't know what to do. You had tried everything you could think of to bring that spark back between the two of you, to bring the happiness back but Mark seemed to be on such a downward spiral and he had no problem dragging you down alongside him.
“I'm going to class.” You murmur, walking out of your shared bedroom, not even waiting for him to respond. It was the first day of your sophomore year and he obviously wasn't getting up to go to his own class, but there was no chance in hell you were missing the first day, not since you changed your major at the end of last year and now you had almost all the hardest professors on campus. Your stomach was in knots as you clung to your notebook, your heavy backpack already making your back ache as you walked from your off campus apartment to the school. Luckily you were only a few blocks away, but fuck, if you had to carry this bag everyday, you swore your back might just break.
You stand at the lights, waiting for the walk signal when you feel a presence beside you. You felt calm, safe, almost tingly. It was the way Mark had made you feel in the beginning of your relationship, part of you thought that it was him beside you. You turn your head to look, seeing a tall man with dark hair and flawless skin. His jaw clenched as you took him in. Your eyes trailed down to his lips, where you swear you almost saw a smirk, he was one of the most handsome men you'd ever seen, and to be honest, something inside you was begging you to talk to him. Your mind races, and blanks all at the same time. You move your leg to step out onto the road when you're suddenly pulled back. A few seconds later, a car speeds past the two of you. Your mouth hangs open, as you stare at the man who just saved you.
Seconds later the walk light flashes, the beeping startles you. The man laughs, turning to glance at you. “Have a good day, y/n. And be careful.” He murmurs, hurriedly walking in front of you.
How did he know your name? How were his reflexes so fast? You would definitely have remembered if you'd ever seen him before. You quickly start walking, trying to catch up to the man but as you get across the street and look up, he's nowhere to be found. You shake your head, continuing on your journey towards your first class - psychology. You had reluctantly chosen this one last, unsure of how well you'd do in the class but alas, it was needed so you would try your best.
As you walk through campus you smile and nod your head to a few others who you had become acquaintances with last year. You walked towards your building, anxious to see if you knew anyone taking the class with you, it always made you feel better to have a friend. Mark was supposed to be in this class but when you had told him you signed up for it, he dropped it the next day. That stung quite a lot, he used to want to spend a lot of time with you. He loved hanging out, doing whatever random activity at any time. And now you were lucky if he was even in the same room as you. Your confidence took a hit with every interaction with him, and to be completely honest, you weren't sure how much longer you were going to be able to put up with his shit.
You walked into the already packed classroom, only a few random seats were left available.
“Note to self, get here really fucking early next time.” You murmur to yourself, heading to the front row, which was the only row where there were enough empty spots that you didn't have to sit next to anyone. You got nervous around strangers. There was too much word vomit on your part, and this year you really needed to buckle down.
No distractions, and you were confident in that. Until a very visible distraction walked into your class. Another overly handsome, flawless skin, body, smile, flawless everything man, who made his way towards you. You could feel the tingles jolting through your body as you watch him walk directly towards you, his face now stone cold as he sets his belongings down, taking the empty seat beside you.
Right beside you. Even though there were 3 others on each side of you he could have chosen from.
“HI.” He whispers, leaning over close to you. You turn your head, instantly getting a whiff of his cologne, he smelled so fucking good.
“Um, hi.” You whisper back, looking away. He made the butterflies in your stomach flutter.
“I'm Jeongin. It's nice to meet you, y/n.” He whispers. His voice is deep but not too deep, it's so velvety, it gives you shivers.
As you were about to turn and ask him how he knew your name, your professor walked in. Jeongin's face turned back to being stone cold as he looked straight ahead, listening to the introductions. Your head was spinning, your ears were ringing. Two equally attractive men talking to you in one day, had you flustered as fuck. You didn't say this often lately, but you couldn't wait to go home.
The rest of the day passed in the blink of an eye, with no more handsome strangers who knew your name coming up to you. You breathed a sigh of relief the second you stepped into your apartment. You set your belongings down, walking into the kitchen only to find Mark sitting in front of the TV, playing video games.
“How were your classes?” He asks, his eyes never leaving the screen.
“Fine. I'd ask you how yours were, but you didn't go.” You sigh.
“Yeah, listen, you have any money? I'm going to meet some friends later at the bar.” Mark says, still never looking away from the screen.
“No, my loans haven't come in yet.” You murmur. They did, but if Mark knew that, he'd drain you of all the money you had. He was extremely financially irresponsible. His parents sent him enough money for rent, utilities, groceries and some fun every month and every month he blew through it all like it was nothing, only paying a few things here and there, leaving everything else to fall on you.
“Fuck sakes.” He groans. “I guess I'll call my mom.” He murmurs.
He refused to get a job, but would happily call mommy and daddy to bail him out. And they would. You wished you had that luxury, you had been on your own since you were 16, and life had never been kind to you.
A little while later, Mark emerges from your shared room, dressed up, a smile on his face as he laughs at his phone. He slips it into his pocket after replying to a message, and casually leaves the apartment without saying a word to you.
This. This apparently was your new normal. You sighed loudly and deeply, going through the evening motions. Eating, watching a show, mindlessly scrolling through tiktok or Facebook, getting ready for bed, and falling asleep, dreaming of a happier life.
The next morning, you were up at 5:30am, mentally berating yourself for accepting a 7:00am class. Summertime you had been more confident in the fall you, to be able to get up and survive the day. You hated the summertime you.
Your eyes were still half closed as you made your early morning walk to campus. Mark hadn't even come home, and your heart was feeling a little shattered. You wandered around campus, realizing you had way more time before class. You decided to go to the bathroom and then grab a coffee from the campus shop. You groggily push the bathroom door open, closing your eyes as you walk in, just for a second, until you hear a man clearing his throat. Your eyes shoot open, seeing a handsome blonde man standing before you, washing his hands.
“Wrong bathroom, love.” He smiles.
“Oh my god… I'm so sorry.” You panic, turning around to grab the door and rush out of there. You pull the door open but before you leave, he says one last thing.
“It was nice to meet you, y/n.” He says, his voice even deeper than Jeongins. Your heart races. You don't turn around, you walk out of the bathroom, trying to breathe as your head spins. You completely forget about the fact you needed to use the bathroom and head straight for the coffee shop.
You stand in line, looking at the menu, trying to decide which one will wake you up the most because clearly you're in desperate need of it. When you decide, it's your turn at the counter. You look at the barista and are slightly taken aback. He's absolutely gorgeous, like the 3 other men you had seen over the last day or so. He's a little shorter but fucking muscular, with a dazzling smile.
“What can I get for you?” He smiles.
“Uh…um… iced americano, with a shot of espresso please.” You half mumble. He smiles at you, turning around to make your drink. You fumble in your bag for your wallet, grabbing your card while you wait for your drink and to pay. Not long later, he slides your drink towards you, his smile still there.
“It's on the house today.” He says.
“Oh… thank you.” You smile.
This was a good interaction. At least he didn't know your name.
“Have a good day, y/n.” He smiles. You look at him shocked but at that point he's already helping someone else.
What the fuck was going on?
The day continued to drag on, you wanted to doze off in all your classes, the coffee didn't help, not even a little bit. When your last class ended at 2pm, you sluggishly made your way back to your apartment, dreaming of your bed even more than you had this morning. You don't even care that when you get home Mark isn't home. You don't care that you haven't heard from him all night or all day. All you care about is the fact that you're home and you can nap without any interruptions and then make yourself a delicious meal when you wake up, but nothing in your life ever goes to plan.
You stretch a few times, feeling like you had slept for 12 hours at least but you knew it had only been a few, until you look at your phone.
“How the fuck is it 7:00am!?” You groan, crawling out of your bed. You hadn't eaten, showered, or done anything except slept for 16 hours and still, unsurprisingly hadn't heard a word from Mark. You quickly shuffle around the house, making yourself some breakfast and some coffee, considering the coffee you had gotten yesterday tasted like ass and did nothing for you. While that brewed you took a shower, washing the confusion of the last few days off of you, in hopes today would be a better day.
You were hypervigilant on your walk to campus, paranoid that there was going to be another man you didn't know but who somehow knew you coming out of the woodwork. There had been four already but there couldn't possibly be anymore. Right?
Wrong.
You wander through campus after your first two classes, not feeling very hungry for lunch. You look down at your phone, texting your friend Sam, who was due to return home from her holidays in a few days and you couldn't wait to see her. And tell her about all the shit Mark had put you through. She was going to love it. No one hated him more than she did, and she was proud of it. You laugh at her last text, moving to reply when you bump into something concrete, dropping your phone to the ground. You groan, bending down to pick it up when you see four legs standing in front of you.
Oh christ. “Here we go.” You mumble, picking up your phone, standing up. You felt almost breathless looking at the two men standing before you. One was so beautiful, his smiling face almost made you blush, whereas the other one, who was equally as handsome, had a stone cold face and a cold demeanor.
“You should watch where you're walking, y/n.” The stone cold man murmurs. “You never know who's going to be around.” He finishes. He gives you a small smirk, before stepping around you, leaving the other one there with you. “See you around, y/n.” He winks, walking away to catch up with the other one.
This week was way too fucking long already. You needed a goddamn drink.
Thursday rolled around, and nothing exciting, nothing out of the ordinary happened. It was finally a normal day and you were so unbelievably thankful for that but it also partially bummed you out. As weird as this entire week had been, you had been sort of looking forward to having the unexpected moments with the gorgeous strangers.
That evening you went home, and to your surprise, Mark was back.
“Where have you been?” You ask, setting your things down on the table.
“I was just with the boys, y/n. Christ, what's with the third degree?” He snaps.
“With the boys since Monday? And what? Unable to call or even text that you were okay?” You snap.
“Fuck, You always do this. I'm sorry I don't involve you in every single fucking plan I make, mom.” He spits. You just roll your eyes and walk away. It wasn't worth it, and once you got your shit sorted out, you'd be gone. You were done. You walk into your room, closing the door and locking it behind you. Sam was back tomorrow and you couldn't wait.
Friday afternoon, you skipped out of the lecture hall of your last class, ready to get home and get ready. You were meeting Sam at both of your favorite bars and you were over the moon excited. You probably should have slowed down, or at least watched where you skipped but for now it was too late. You didn't see the broken concrete in front of you, making you trip. You squeezed your eyes tightly, waiting for the impact between you and the ground but it didn't come. You open one eye, seeing a sexy man, smiling at you, holding you in his arms.
“Woah there.” He laughs. “That could have ended very badly.” He finishes, standing you up straight like it was nothing.
“You really need to be more careful, y/n.” Another voice chimes in. You turn to look to see another man, longer black hair, plump lips and a gorgeous face.
What the fuck were these men drinking here?
“H-how…” you begin but you're cut off.
“Pay attention, y/n.” The one who caught you says, before they walk but almost glide away. You shake your head, not wanting to let the interaction stop you from enjoying your night out with Sam. When you get home Mark is nowhere to be found and frankly, you were pretty happy about that. You quickly begin getting ready as your class had gotten out late and Sam was already at the bar waiting for you.
It took you seconds to spot her. The screech that came out of each of you had all the patrons glaring at the two of you as you hugged and jumped around. Not seeing her for three months had been exceptionally hard and you both had so much to fill each other in on.
Three hours and multiple drinks later, you were drunk, spilling your guts about Mark. “And he only came home yesterday! That fucking asshole.” You scoff.
“Wait… let me get this straight… you're telling me he went out and was gone for days without a word and got mad at you for being concerned!?” She yells.
“Yeah! Make that make sense!” You murmur.
“I'm telling you, y/n, there's much better options out there.” She sighs.
You knew there was. And when you were ready you were going to find those options. But first you needed to find somewhere to live and then you could move on. Luckily for you, the amount of money from your loans would be enough to cover a place for yourself for a while but having a roommate would be better. You couldn't tell her yet though, you needed to have everything organized first.
Hours and even more shots and drinks later, you and Sam stumble out of the bar, her holding you up and you attempting to hold her up. You're far more drunk than she is, with how your week had gone, you absolutely needed it but instead of sending you home alone, she brought you back to her parents house, where she was living so you could sleep it off. Her parents were strict and even though she was an adult, if she lived there she had to follow their rules which meant no drinking and no guests. Luckily for you, they were out of town until the next night so you were free to sleep peacefully. And you did, passing out the second your head hit the pillow.
The next morning, the two of you woke up, having breakfast. It helped your hangover and by the time you left her place to head back to your own apartment, you weren't feeling the effects of the night before. You were ready to have a good rest of your day, and you thought you would. You walked into your apartment and instantly something felt off. You looked down, seeing a pair of heels that definitely didn't belong to you.
“That motherfucker.” You mumble.
As quietly as you could, you tiptoed to your shared bedroom, pushing the door wide open. You see Mark laying there, a woman entangled with him as they both peacefully slept. How cute. It would be cuter if he wasn't supposed to remain faithful.
You quietly pull out your phone, snapping a few pictures of the two of them in bed together before you leave. Even though you were mentally checked out of the relationship, your heart was still very much in love with him. Or maybe it was in love with who he used to be. You always had a hope that a flip would switch and he would end up going back to how he was when you first started dating, but that guy… he would never have cheated on you.
You walked out of the apartment, unsure of where you were going to go. Sam was busy today with her parents returning in a few hours, and you didn't really have many other friends, at least not ones you were comfortable enough to call up and cry to. So you wandered. You wandered around the city for hours, until you ended up only a few blocks from campus and directly outside a bar you'd never been to before. As the sun sets, you pull open the door, ready to drink even more than you did the night before, needing to numb the pain in your heart.
After two doubles, you pulled out your phone to send Mark a text. You attached the picture you took of him and the woman, with the caption “I hope she was worth it. I'm done.” you pressed send, silencing your notifications, and turning your screen over onto the table. You didn't want to see his reply, or if he even did. You wanted to drink in complete peace. So that's what you did, until your head started to spin and you swore you started seeing things, like the man from your class who sat right next to you, Jeongin with the one who caught you when you tripped over the cement. You squint your eyes, just slightly, trying to stabilize your vision, but you weren't sure if it was working or not.
You stood up, ready to storm over there and demand answers. As you began to walk, someone grabbed onto your shoulder, pulling you and spinning you around.
“The fuck is this?” Mark spits, holding up his phone, showing the message you had sent him, along with all the texts he had sent back to you but you didn't know you got.
“That's you, laying in bed with a girl who isn't me!” You yell.
“So you're done. Just like that?” He asks.
“You fucking cheated on me! Yeah I'm fucking done.” You snap.
“You didn't come home! I didn't know what or who you were out doing! Excuse me for needing some physical touch and companionship!” He yells back.
“Are you kidding me? You were gone for four fucking days, and you know what I didn't do? I didn't cheat!” You scream. You can feel the eyes of everyone in the bar on the two of you. “I still had some hope that maybe you'd change and you'd be the guy I first fell in love with but that's gone now. He's gone. And so am I. I don't care, I'll move out, I'm just done.” You finish.
“Don't be so fucking dramatic, y/n.” He sighs, rolling his eyes. “Let's go. We're going home.” He says, grabbing onto your arm.
“I'm not going anywhere with you.” You say, trying to pull yourself out of his grip.
“Everything okay over here?” You hear from behind you, the voice is familiar.
“Who the fuck are you?” Mark yells. “Mind your business.”
“Well, when you're putting your hands on a woman, it kinda makes it our business.” The voice says.
“She's MY woman, so worry about someone else.” Mark replies.
“It doesn't sound like she is, so either let go of her, or we're gonna have a fucking problem.” The man snaps.
Mark doesn't let go. You turn your head, seeing Jeongin and the man who caught you, standing behind you, both of their faces stone cold and terrifying.
“Mark, you're hurting me.” You whisper, looking back at him.
“Chan…” Jeongin begins.
“You have no one. Nowhere to go, y/n. Don't be stupid.” Mark grunts.

You take a few days to clean up your mess. You’re still angry, still seething from the realization of what Hyunjin had done. He had turned Seungmin out of jealousy because you were happy. He had turned Seungmin simply to tear apart your relationship. He didn’t care about Seungmin. He’d do the same thing to him that he did to you. But Seungmin had just been a revenge turning, a plot to tear you apart from what mattered most.
You finally decide you have to tell him. You know he’s wearing himself ragged trying to find his best friend, worrying himself sick. And here you were, sitting and listening to his best friend scream in pain as he turned from human to vampire. It wasn’t right. It wasn’t fair. He deserved to know the truth. About everything.
You take your time going to his house. You’re trying to work out how to tell him. How to reveal the truth about yourself, the whereabouts of his best friend, why he can’t see him. None of it was going well, because you knew this wasn’t something easy to do. The knowledge that this was going to be the last time you’d see Jeongin was weighing heavily on your mind too. You wouldn’t be coming back from this. It was over for you. Hyunjin had succeeded, and you were losing the one thing you ever loved.
He looks worse than he had a couple days ago. He’s even paler than before, the dark circles even more prominent. He looks thinner too. You know he hasn’t been eating, much less going to the gym. He was worried sick, and you were about to deliver horrible knews to him.
“I need to talk to you.” You say before he can close the door on you. “I have something to tell you.”
You can tell he’s debating whether he should let you in. For a moment you think he already knows, but he opens the door anyway, letting you inside. It’s even more of a mess. He’s been living on the couch, a makeshift bed set up. Just in case Seungmin stumbled in the door, you think.
“What do you want? I’m busy.”
You try not to let his words sting you. You know it’s the exhaustion and the stress talking. “I need to talk to you, explain something to you.”
“I don’t have time for this.” He says, fists clenched at his side. “Just say what it is you want to say. I have a missing person to find.”
“I know where Seungmin is.” You say, and hate yourself immediately for saying it.
A thousand looks cross his face at once, morphing from disbelief to pain to anger to relief. You don’t want to tell him he’ll never see Seungmin again. You don’t want to tell him why but you have to. You’ve hidden enough from him. You can’t anymore.
“I need to explain something to you so you can understand why I know where he is.” You say, keeping distance between you two. You hadn’t fed in a few days, and you know if you get too emotional, things could end badly for Jeongin. You don’t want to hurt him, even now. “Jeongin...fuck.” You breathe, turning your back to him. Bloody tears are pooling in your eyes, just the thought of losing him killing you. “This is so much harder than I thought it would be.”
“Y/N...tell me.” He says, his voice cracking slightly.
“Jeongin...I’m a vampire.” You turn around, fangs out so he can see.
He looks at you in fear and shock, taking a step back. “No...”
“The reason I don’t go out during the day. I can’t be in sunlight. I don’t eat. Sometimes I’m unusually cold. I don’t have a heartbeat. I was turned back in the 70s. My sire he...he has this vengeance against me because he was forced to turn me. That’s why I tried so hard to hide you because you could have been in danger. But he found out about you somehow and...he turned Seungmin to tear us apart.”
Jeongin is silent for a long time. He stands there, staring at you. “I don’t believe it.”
“I wanted to tell you. But knowing is dangerous. Humans aren’t supposed to live after they find out. I couldn’t kill you. I loved you too much to put you in that kind of danger.”
“But you just did it.”
“I wanted you to know what happened to Seungmin so you wouldn’t spend the rest of your life wondering.”
“Get out. I never want to see you again.” He seethes, his whole body shaking in anger. “Get. Out!”
You let out a quiet sob, turning and opening the door. It’s dawn, the first rays of sunlight appearing over the hills. You’re not going to make it to the house. For a second you contemplate standing there, letting the sun burn you to a crisp, but you can’t do that to Seungmin. He’s going to need you.
You take off running, heading towards Taecyeon’s store. If you can just get there, you can hide in the back where there’s no windows. But you’re not going to make it that far. It’s starting to get hot, the sun rising higher in the sky. You find cellar doors, breaking the lock as you throw them open, just managing to get inside before the sun hits your whole body.
You sink down in the darkest corner, cradling your burnt arm against your chest. You haven’t eaten recently, meaning your healing process is going to be slower. But that doesn’t stop you from crying, replaying the events of the last few days over and over in your head. It was over. It was all over as fast as it started. You had lost Jeongin forever. You had lost the one thing you loved for good.
***********
You make your way back to the house after dark. The burn on your arm is nothing more than a red mark now, at the scarring stage in the process of healing. Normally it would take minutes to work its way through, but you were starving. Despite this, you can’t bring yourself to eat. What was the point? You were forever doomed to endure nothing but misery for eternity.
Minho is on you as soon as the door opens. It’s oddly quiet in the house, aside from the pained screaming from the basement. “Where the hell were you? We were terrified! We thought...”
They thought you had killed yourself.
“It was too late to make it back to the house. I had to hunker in a cellar until dark.”
“The others are out looking for you.”
“Or my pile of ashes.” You say, going to move past him but he stops you. You don’t have it in you to fight him.
“Hey. You need to eat.”
You shake your head. “No.”
“Stop it.” He shakes you slightly. “It’s not fair to either of them if you give up now. I’m going to go find you someone to eat.”
He lets you go, heading out the front door. You climb the steps slowly, dragging your feet to your room before plopping on the bed facing the windows. Minho was right of course. You had Seungmin to think about. No doubt Hyunjin had done a number on him. Would do a number on him over the next few decades. Someday maybe he’d get to see Jeongin again. Jeongin would be older, probably moved on in life. Seungmin would be the same 21 year old he’d seen all those years ago before he disappeared suddenly.
You would be the same too. Not that Jeongin would ever want to see you again.
You feed when Minho brings the woman up to your room, draining every last drop. You could have drained a second, but you don’t want to put in the effort, still reeling after the events of the last few days.
You watch the sky outside lighten behind the curtain, watching the line of sunlight from the crack between the fabric work its way across the floor. You don’t flinch as it begins to burn your toes, the flesh bubbling and smoking, turning black as it fries.
“Stop it.” The shutters are pulled closed, the light disappearing from your foot.
“Why do you care?” You spit out, watching your still bubbling flesh.
“Because I’m your sire. It’s my job.”
“You picked a hell of a time to decide that.” You say, looking at him as he kneels before you.
“I know. It’s my fault.”
Your gaze snaps to him. “I’m sorry...what did you just say?”
“It’s my fault.” He stares down at your foot where your flesh is healing itself quickly thanks to the fresh blood in your system. “I was jealous because of your happiness. I thought...why should you get to be so happy when I was stuck with you for the rest of eternity. I acted rashly and all I wanted to do was hurt you. I thought hurting people made me happy. But you’re right. I’m nothing but a spoiled brat.”
“If you think I’m forgiving you then you’re just as delusional as before.”
“I don’t expect you to forgive me. Ever. After everything I’ve done...I don’t deserve it. I just wanted you to know I’m not doing it again. I’m not making the same mistake. I chose to turn him out of anger, and I have to live with those consequences.”
Hyunjin stands, making his way to your door.
“Hyunjin,” you turn to look at him. “He’s really sweet. Take care of him?”

MASTERLIST
1973
You shift nervously as you stand in the doorway. He’s sitting in the corner near the window, nose buried in a book. You know he knows you’re there, but he’s choosing to ignore you. You were only a few weeks old in vampire years and slowly getting the hang of things. It was different, the world was entirely different now. You broke so many door knobs and small things you felt guilty, but Felix had just waved you off, as had the others. They had all gone through the same thing. Everything was loud and every smell was strong, making you glad that the house was far enough outside the city. When you would go out and eat, it was easy to get overwhelmed by the sounds and smells.
“What do you want?” He asks, not bothering to glance up at you.
“I’m hungry.” You shift again, the floor creaking slightly under your feet.
“So go eat.”
“Will you go with me?”
He finally looks up at you, a look of annoyance on his face. “You can go. You’re a big girl.”
“But-”
He waves his hand at you. “Go on. You have to learn to do this on your own eventually.”
You chew on your lip for a moment before turning and going out the door. He wasn’t wrong. You did have to learn to do this. It was part of your life now. But you were still learning. Your judgement was clouded when you were hungry, the scent of any human making you forget all the things Hyunjin and Felix had taught you.
You use your speed to get to the city, using rooftops to your advantage as you look for any potential meal. Being so young meant you needed more blood than the others. Felix could go as long as a month without feeding. You need at least twice a week. The frequent feedings also made it easier to digest the thought of feeding off of humans. You weren’t human anymore. Hyunjin constantly reminded you of that. You had tried starving yourself out of spite, but Felix had intervened, forcing you to feed. You didn’t have enough control to do that yet. Even Minho was still mastering that ability.
The scent of blood in the air makes you stop, nearly tripping over your feet. You glance at the alley below, finding a group of three men. One of them has a cut on his hand, your vision zeroing in on the crimson blood dripping from the wound. It’s too much, your hunger taking over and you drop to the ground, startling the men. You pounce in a blur, sinking your teeth into the neck of the man with the cut, the other two taking off running.
It was completely opposite of what they had stressed to you. No feeding on groups. There could be no witnesses, and it was too easy for one of them to get away. But the scent of blood had clouded your mind and it had been an unconscious decision. You don’t care about the two running towards the end of the alley, more focused on the tangy sweetness of the blood pouring into your mouth.
A figure appears at the end of the alley, stopping the two runners dead in their tracks. He shoves them against the wall of the building, speaking lowly to them. You push the drained body away from you, falling back against the opposite building. The figure lets the two men go before making their way towards you. There’s blood smeared on your face, not quite yet mastered the art of not spilling when you drink. Right now it was all about getting as much as you could. The delicateness would come later.
“That was dangerous, you know?” The man says, squatting down in front of you.
The realization of what you had done hits you like a ton of bricks. “I-I didn’t mean to...”
“I know.” The man says, pulling out a package of baby wipes. “You’re too young to be out feeding alone.”
“Tell that to my sire.” You say, letting him wipe the blood off your face and neck.
He hums, tossing the wipes into the trash bin beside you. You take a moment to look at him. He’s very handsome and well dressed, dimples indenting his cheeks as he gives you a small smile. “You’re one of Felix’s.”
You nod slowly. “Well, sort of.”
He nods. “I’m Taecyeon. Felix’s sire.”
You stare at him, mouth agape. You had heard stories about Felix’s sire. The elder vampire that had turned him, taught him everything. You didn’t know he was so close. Nor had you expected to ever meet him.
“I’m not blaming you for this. You’re too young, and you shouldn’t have been out alone. But I need you to do something for me. This,” he motions to the wall you’re leaning against. “This is my store. I don’t want you feeding near it. The last thing I need is for my human employees to start going missing. Can you do that for me?”
You nod. “Yes, sir.”
“Good.” He lifts you to your feet before slinging the dead man over his shoulder. “Come on. I’ll drive you back to the house. I need to have a word with your sire.”

2021
The thumping of the music rings loud in your ears as you weave through the crowd in the house. You ignore the assault of scents on your nose, some good, most bad. You had fed a few nights ago, not wanting to risk being too hungry, but you also had been so worried about what could happen you had forgotten to feed last night. You had been so focused on how this could play out, you had made it even more risky. But for him, it was worth it.
He’s on the other side of the living room.
You’ve been watching him where he stands with a red cup in his hands he hasn’t taken a drink from. Seungmin is there as well, both of them talking with one of their classmates. You had thought of approaching him directly, but you’re not sure what you would say.
“Hey, I’ve been following you and laying on your roof to listen to your conversations every night. Wanna go on a date?”
That would go well.
Instead you’ve been watching him, glancing his way as you dance. You’re thankful for your vampiric stamina, as you’ve been dancing for quite a while.
He finally glances your way, catching your eye. You offer a smile, continuing to dance, moving your hips to the music. He watches you for a moment before turning to look back at Seungmin. You almost pout. You had been so close. At least he had seen you. Would he remember you like you remembered him? You had shared no more than a few words, a few moments together. You knew him, but he hadn’t seen you since then.
You could have cried as he turned to look back at you. You tilt your head, holding his gaze. Seungmin turns to look at you, leaning in to whisper something in Jeongin’s ear. You could have used your enhanced hearing to listen in, but you want to be surprised. Jeongin turns to look back at Seungmin, staying still for a moment before he’s handing his cup over, pushing away from the wall to make his way to you.
You stare up at him as he approaches, offering him a smile. “Dance with me.” You hold your hand out.
He stares down at it for a moment before he takes it, the warmth of his hand bleeding through your skin. You pull him closer, wrapping your arms around his neck. You had only imagined having him this close, in the depths of the day when the house was quiet with sleeping vampires. What it would feel like to hold him, have his warm body pressed up against yours. The softness of his human body, the blood pumping through his veins.
“I’m not much of a dancer.” He says, staring down at you.
You shrug. “Neither am I.”
You pull him just slightly closer, moving your body to the beat. He’s hesitant as he places his hands on your waist, moving his own body. He’s surprisingly graceful and limber, keeping a respectful space between you. You don’t mind it, closer to him than you would have ever thought you would get. You can’t help it, breathing him in. He smells delicious, drowning out the other scents.
There’s a surprising richness to him. You had thought perhaps a sweetness, the light airiness you had picked up in your distance suddenly nothing compared to up close. He’s like a dark chocolate, thick and rich and coating you. You suddenly regret not feeding, fighting to keep your fangs at bay.
“I’m Y/N.” You say in his ear so he can hear you.
“Jeongin.” He says back, though you don’t need the proximity to hear him clearly.
You continue to dance with him, wanting to be closer but you also don’t want to scare him away. You knew everything about him, but he didn’t know that. You had to start from the beginning with him and get him comfortable.
You grab his hand as the song changes, pulling him away from the writing bodies. “Come on. Let’s get some air.”
He follows you, though you’re not giving him much of a choice as you weave your way to the front door, and out into the cool night air. It’s quieter outside as you take a seat on the lawn, pulling him down beside you.
“I know you from somewhere.” He says, staring at your face.
“Yeah, I ran into you a few weeks ago while you were coming out of a night class.”
“That’s it.” He says.
If you had been capable of it, you would have blushed. “Yeah. I ran into you and you apologized for it even though it was totally my fault.”
“Well, I also could have been paying better attention to where I was going.”
“We’ll call it even, then?”
He nods. “Sure. It’s nice to finally meet you, though. I’ve been looking for you but I hadn’t seen you since.”
If your heart had been beating, it surely would have been pounding hard. “It’s nice to meet you too.” You hold out your hand to shake.
He takes your hand, long fingers engulfing yours. His hands are warm, just like the rest of him. “Your hands are freezing. Here.” He shrugs off his jacket, wrapping it around your shoulders.
You could have died right there. Well...died a second time. His jacket is warm, his scent hitting you in the face once more. “Thanks.” You say, slipping your arms through the holes.
“Are you a student here?”
You shake your head. “No.” You hate the disappointed look on his face. “I just live close by and I’m a bit of a night owl so sometimes I like to walk around at night. I’m just surprised you remembered me.”
“Why wouldn’t I?” He asks. You would have been beet red had you been capable of it.
You shrug. “It was a while ago. I would have assumed university students had more important things to think about than girls who run into them at night.”
“Well, you’re not wrong. But it’s more exciting to think about girls than software engineering.”
“Is that what you’re studying?”
He nods. “I want to go into video game development.”
You nod. “I’m not much into video games. A couple of my...brothers are gamers. But me...the hand-eye coordination isn’t strong with this one.”
He laughs and it’s the most beautiful sound you’ve ever heard. “It does take some practice. I’m sure you could learn quickly, though, if you ever wanted to.”
“You’re putting a lot of faith in me.” You say.
He shrugs. “I think a lot of people are capable of more than they think they are.” It’s silent for a moment between you. “Wait, if you’re not a student, how did you hear about this party?”
You panic for a moment before thinking up the best lie you could. Lying was part of being a vampire, especially when there were humans involved. “My uncle owns a clothing store down the street. Sometimes I help out and I overheard some girls talking about it. Thought I might stop in and see what a college party is like.”
He nods. “Well, did it meet your expectations?”
“If my expectations were basically every movie stereotype, then yes it did.”
He laughs again. “I’m not really a party person. My friend Seungmin convinced me to come. He thinks getting close with the people hosting this party will help him in the future.”
“You don’t think so?”
He shakes his head. “Not really. JB is a grad student and honestly I don’t think he knows we exist. Even if we did become friends, I don’t think I want to work for the company they’re running.”
“That bad?”
He shrugs. “I don’t think any of them are going into video games. I’d rather work for myself, freelance you know?”
You nod. “I get it.”
He leans his elbow on his knee, staring at you. “How about you? You’re not in college?”
You shake your head. “No. I don’t know what I want to do, so I didn’t see a point in spending money on classes. Plus I’m the youngest with six older brothers, so...” You shrug. “I’d have to really want it for my uncle to agree.”
He goes to say something, but his name being shouted from the porch stops him. Both of you turn to look, Seungmin stumbling down the steps towards you.
“I’ve been looking for you!” He shouts, stumbling over his feet before dropping into the grass behind you. “You disappeared!”
“Yeah, I came out for some air.”
Seungmin turns to look at you. “You’re talking to that hot girl!”
Jeongin turns about 7 shades of red. You stop yourself from cooing at it, letting out a quiet laugh. “Sorry about him, he’s very honest when he’s drunk. This is Seungmin. My best friend and roommate.”
You already knew that, but you nod. “Charming.”
“I should probably get him home.”
You nod, standing. “I should probably get home too. If I’m out too late my brothers might come looking and I’d rather not have them find me at a college party talking to a boy. They’ll never let me live it down.”
Jeongin nods. “I...I’d like to do this again sometime.”
You could have melted right there. “Me too.”
“A-Are you going to be alright, walking by yourself?”
You nod. “My uncle’s store is just a couple blocks that way. I’ll hang out there until he closes and get a ride from him.”
“You’re sure?” He asks.
You could have died again from his sweetness. “I’m sure. Here.” You hand him your phone. “Put in your number. I’ll text you that I’m safe.”
He puts in his number, messaging himself so he has yours. “I’ll come looking if I don’t hear from you.”
“I don’t doubt it.” You say. “Good luck.” You glance at Seungmin, Jeongin lifting him off the ground. “I’ll see you soon?”
He nods, giving you a smile, showing his dimples. “Yeah. Definitely.”
You could have floated on air as you made your way down the sidewalk. You were practically buzzing with energy. If your nerves had been alive they would be on fire, your heart pounding in your chest. You can almost still feel it, the sensations almost lost to your memory. You wrap Jeongin’s jacket tighter around yourself, breathing him in. God, you would have loved to taste him. Just a small sample, just to really get a sense of him. Though you’re not sure you could have stopped yourself at just a taste. He smelled unbelievably delicious and you knew you were in trouble.
You pride yourself on your control. In almost 50 years you had gained a lot of self control, feeding only every couple of weeks unless you were going to be around humans. Then you needed more. You regret not feeding right before the party, no doubt the iciness of your skin could have raised some alarm. You were going to have to be more careful if you were going to spend more time around Jeongin. You were going to spend more time around Jeongin.
You catch the scent not far from Taecyeon’s store. You’re hungry, the constant assault of human scent, and Jeongin’s, has muddled your brain. You’re shoving the man into the alleyway, draining him quickly. You’re careful not to get any blood on Jeongin’s jacket, having learned the delicate art of clean feeding in 50 years.
He’s leaning against the open back door when you look up, arms crossed as he watches you.
“Have you forgotten what I told you about feeding behind my store?”
You shake your head. “No. I’m sorry. I couldn’t take it anymore.”
He sighs, tossing a package of baby wipes at you. “Clean yourself up and take his body to my car. I’m almost done.”
You drag the body to his car, tossing it in the back before leaning against the side. You send a quick text to Jeongin while you wait, letting him know you made it safely. You were touched by his concern, though you knew there was little danger to you walking alone at night. You had mastered the “dangerous” walk, the determined, angry look that made people cross the street to avoid passing next to you. Very few bothered trying to mess with you, and usually they wound up in the basement furnace when they did.
Taecyeon drives you back, glancing at you every so often.
“That’s not your jacket.” He finally says, sitting at a stoplight.
You shake your head. “No.”
“Be careful.” He says. “You know how dangerous it is.”
“I know.”
“I hope you’re prepared for what will happen if he finds out.”
You sigh, nodding. You hadn’t wanted to think about it, but you knew it was the biggest danger. No one would likely believe him, so the secret was safe. But it would be the end of your time with him for one reason or two.
*********
You creep back up the stairs from the basement. It’s almost dawn, the house quiet as the others have retired to their rooms for the day. You slip into your room unnoticed, closing and locking the door. Not that locking the door would do much good, but it was a simple sign that you wanted privacy, and it was mostly respected. Of course Hyunjin had broken your lock several times over the last 50 years. You’re glad his door had been closed and remained closed. You were playing a risky game now. You had to be extra careful.
You lay down in your bed after making sure the shutters are locked. You hold Jeongin’s jacket in your arms, burying your nose in it. It was still slightly warm, his scent strong. You can imagine having him in your arms, holding him, taking in his warmth and that scent.

A/N: Here it is!! Part 1!! I really like this story and I hope you do too!! I’m really excited about it and I’m really looking forward to posting it. It’s going to be shorter than Red Moon, probably only 10 parts max. It also deals with some sensitive subjects, but pretty much all my writing does. Also, the closest vampire archetype to the ones I’ve modeled the vampires on in this story are the vampires from True Blood. I’ve made a few small changes, but they’re the closest to how these vampires function. Let me know what you think!! (I’m also very inept at making banners and images so have this sort of banner fort his series) Also this chapter does switch viewpoints for a moment but it’s the only one that does. The rest will be in second person.
1973
He’s like an angel. His body moves so gracefully to the beat of the disco music booming through the speakers. His shirt is barely holding on, two buttons in the middle the only thing holding it together. Smooth expanses of porcelain skin are revealed with every movement. The shirt billows around his slim hips, long legs encased in simple black trousers. His black hair is shoulder length, held back partially by a simple tie. He’s ethereal, completely lost in the moment as he dances.
The bodies on the dance floor have left a clearing around him, most of them too intimidated to approach. Those bold enough have been ignored or downright shunned. He’s waiting for the one. The right one.
You’ve been watching him for the past few weeks. He frequents this club on the weekends when it’s the most busy. You yourself don’t frequent it often, but this mysterious stranger has drawn you in. He comes early, never drinks, and disappears when the club is at its busiest. You’ve never been able to follow him; one second he’s there, the next he’s gone. You tug at the hem of your dress as his eyes scan over the crowd around the dance floor. You’re cursing yourself for wearing long sleeves as his eyes train on you. A beading sweat forms on the back of your neck, a smirk crossing his lips before he’s turning, eyes breaking contact.
You continue to watch him move in ways you never thought humanly possible. He turns to look at you again over his shoulder, plump lips pulled back as he bites at his finger before spinning in a circle. You’ve never been much of a dancer, but perhaps tonight you were going to be.
You down the rest of your drink before weaving through the crowds as they press closer to the dance floor, the beat of a new song starting. It’s not hard to find him, your body practically colliding with his, but he steadies you with hands on your hips. Something sparks beneath your skin at his touch, hands gripping his strong shoulders as he pulls you closer. He’s chosen you. Out of everyone in the packed club, you’re the one tonight.
His body moves, hands guiding yours as if he knows you’re inexperienced in this medium. His eyes are intense as they stare down at your face, your own eyes focused on his. His face is youthful, younger than you would have expected but you can feel he’s an old soul. There’s an age to him that you can’t find in his looks.
He brings you closer, hips gently grinding against yours as he wraps you completely in his arms. You let your arms wrap around his neck, his mouth going to your ear.
“You’ve been watching me.” He says, voice just as melodic as you had imagined.
“Everyone watches you.” You say, pressing your face close to his neck so you can hear. He’s taller than you, even in your heeled boots he’s leaning down to reach you.
He laughs at that, lips brushing against your skin. “But you especially. Found something you like?”
You can’t help it, the alcohol starts to go to your head as you nod. He pulls away from you a bit so he can stare at you again, biting his lip. Desire is thrumming through your body to the beat of the music. You want him. By the way he’s looking at you, you know he wants you too. This angel that had hypnotized the entire club had chosen you.
But you were soon to learn he was no angel.
He takes your hand, leading you through the crowd of bodies. They seem to part for him, though no one gives you a parting glance. He leads you to the back of the club, exiting through the back door. The cold air outside the club chills your skin, the thin material of your dress suddenly not enough. Though it doesn’t matter, because he’s pressing you up against the wall of the building. Despite the warm club you had just left, his body is strangely cold as he presses it to yours, pinning you to the wall.
His lips are just as soft as you pictured, sliding against yours as you kiss him. He wastes no time, hands lifting you up so your legs are wrapped around his waist. He doesn’t even bother removing your underwear, sliding past it and right into your heat. He’s thick, stretching you as he presses inside. He’s far from your first, not even your first frolic behind the nightclub. But he is the first to make you feel as if you could cum instantly from the feeling of him inside you.
His thrusts are as graceful as his dancing, lips on yours to muffle your moans as he fucks you in the alley. You wonder if he does this to all the people he disappears with. If you would ever see him again.
He begins to get sloppy, chasing his high as he presses kisses across your jaw, working his way to your neck. “I’m sorry.” You think you hear him whisper moments before a sharp pain burns on your neck.
You sober instantly, starting to panic as something tugs at your neck. You can feel something sliding down your skin. Blood. The slurping sounds are loud in your ears as you realize what’s happening. He’s drinking your blood. You try to fight him, but he’s insatiable, your vision beginning to blur as he sucks your very life away.

Chan grips the back of the younger vampire’s neck, yanking him away from the poor girl he was draining. He tosses the vampire against the dumpster with a loud clang, not giving him time to recover before he’s grabbing the ex-prince, holding his body against the dumpster.
Felix checks the girl slumped in a heap on the ground. Her pulse is weak, getting slower and slower. Blood is staining the front of her pink dress, flowing steadily from the wound on her neck.
“You’ve done enough damage.” Chan says, squeezing his neck so hard he can feel the tendons straining against each other. “This is out of control. You’re done.”
“Turn her.” Felix says, looking up at the two younger vampires. They were older in human age, but he was older in his vampire age. “That will be your punishment. She will be your responsibility.”
Turning a human was a big choice. It was not something taken lightly. Newborn vampires were a big responsibility, much like newborn human children were. Only newborn humans weren’t impossibly strong, fast, bloodthirsty monsters. It wasn’t something a vampire could just do and then walk away. They could, but then their newborn would be a danger to humans and to vampire-kind. Usually they didn’t live long without someone to teach them.
Chan forces Hyunjin over next to Felix, Felix biting open Hyunjin’s wrist before placing it between the girl’s lips. He knows this is a gamble, forcing Hyunjin to become a sire. But perhaps having a life to look after would teach him the delicacy of the human lives he had toyed with for the past few months.
Or he would not change, and he had just doomed another poor soul to endure his wrath for eternity.
*******
The process is excruciating. As the vampire blood begins to take over, the human cells begin to die. Felix’s sire had once told him it was like a rapidly spreading infection, taking over every cell of the body. Most were unlucky enough to be awake for it, feeling as their body changes. Felix likened it more in these modern times to a cancer, rapidly spreading over days to destroy every cell and replace it with its own. It would start in the stomach, spreading outwards until it reaches the brain and the heart. The physical changes would already be starting before the brain and the heart give, the fangs developing, the chilling of the body as the blood leaves it, the brain chemistry changing until at last the heart gives out, stilling for the rest of eternity.
Chan and Minho have left, unable to bear the screams from the basement. Felix had meant to get the room soundproofed, but he simply had forgotten. Chan was no stranger to turnings. He had been Felix’s first nearly five hundred years ago. Felix himself was over 700 years old, having been injured in war and found by his sire. He had taken Felix under his wing, teaching him everything he could about history, vampires, art, literature.
He had fallen in love with Chan, a musician in the Joseon courts who had contracted a deadly illness. He had turned Chan, unable to let his first real love go. He passed the knowledge given to him by his sire onto Chan, who parted ways for a while in the early 1700s.
Hyunjin had been an accident. He had been a Joseon prince. Third in line for the throne, likely to never see it. Chan had disguised himself as a servant and gotten close to the prince. It had been a fateful day during training that had made him lose control. Intense thirst had broken him when the young prince accidentally cut himself and Chan had drained him. Chan turned him out of guilt, seeking out Felix again to help him.
Hyunjin had been insatiable from the start. He never forgot who he was, and the newfound power only went to his head. Felix had hoped the centuries would calm him but it had only slightly sated his bloodlust. The arrogant prince had turned into an arrogant vampire and he was their biggest threat. Perhaps this decision to turn the girl would help him.
Minho had been injured in the 1919 rebellion. Felix had taken pity on him and turned him. He was strong, but he showed impeccable control. He had quickly joined Chan in his efforts to rein Hyunjin in, but the prince was fast. The fastest of all of them, and the sneakiest.
Felix makes his way down the stairs to the basement. The girl is still alive, barely, on the edge of her last moments as a human. She’s damp with sweat but her skin has taken on a pallor. Her eyes are bloodshot, blood still on her mouth from when her fangs had split her gums open. She’s shaking, breaths shallow as she stares up at him.
“I-I’m so-so cold.” She whispers.
“I know.” Felix says, pressing on her gums to push the fangs out. They were fully developed now, her change almost through. “It’s almost over.”
“P-Please...” She whispers, eyes drifting closed.
He shushes her, brushing the damp hair from her face. “Soon. It will all be over soon.”
*************
Hyunjin wakes to screaming again. Felix had forced him to stay in the house as his newborn changed, forcing him to listen to her agonized screaming as his blood had worked its way through her system. He hates her already for ruining everything.
He makes his way down to the basement. This screaming is not incoherent as the first had been. No, she’s begging now. Screaming for anyone to hear her.
He stands over her, looking down at her. Her fangs are out and she’s struggling against the chains holding her to the stone table. The table is old, older than Felix. The house had been built around it, meant for their kind. The furnace had been added later, meant to help keep the dead bodies from piling up.
“Please...I’m so thirsty!” She cries, begging Hyunjin with her eyes.
He has half a moment where he debates leaving her there, letting her suffer and die of thirst. But he knows Felix will take pity on her before that happens. If he didn’t care for her, Felix would. Or worse, Felix would force him to. Instead he undoes her chains, grabbing her before she can move too far. He keeps his hand around the back of her neck, leading her upstairs and out the front door. He wraps his arms around her, taking off into the air, flying around the city before finding what he’s looking for.
He lands on a rooftop, a lone homeless man digging through the trash in the alley beneath them. He doesn't let her go yet, forcing her to look down at him. “Smell that?”
She closes her eyes, inhaling the sweet scent of blood. “What is that? Why does it smell so good?”
“That’s his blood. You’re going to drink it.”
He lets her go, interested to see what she’ll do. She moves without even thinking, jumping off the roof onto the back of the homeless man, sinking her teeth into his neck. She drinks until he stops screaming, sucking every last drop from his body. Hyunjin jumps down next to her as she pushes herself away, blood staining her mouth and neck, soaking into the front of the nightgown Felix had dressed her in.
“What did I do?” She asks, gagging.
Hyunjin grips her neck, forcing her to stop. “That’s the only thing that’s going to keep you alive now. Get used to it. You don’t want to throw it back up. You’ll just get thirsty again and kill someone else. Do you want to do that? Kill two when only one needed to die?”
She shakes her head, lower lip trembling. He scoffs, pushing her away, moving to the homeless man’s body, slinging it over his shoulder.
“Come on. I’ll show you what to do next.”

2021
You stare down at the people moving around the courtyard. The night classes were finishing, the last of the students heading back to their homes. You lean your chin on your crossed arms, watching one of the students make his way down the path.
“You like him.”
You don't jump at the sudden appearance of the elder vampire. You knew he was there, watching you. You were disappearing from the house more and more, and you knew he was just making sure you weren't doing anything dangerous.
“I’ve never even met him.” You say, looking away as he disappears down the street.
“Be careful.” Felix warns you. “Humans that get involved with our kind...it never ends well.”
But you know this. You know it well.
Their little pack had grown since you had been turned. Minho had found Jisung back in the 90s, and Felix had saved Changbin from a fire in the early 2000s. It had been almost 48 years since the night you had met Hyunjin and your entire life had changed. Well, your life ended. Most of the people you knew were in their 60s and 70s, your own disappearance going mostly unnoticed besides a few friends that had plastered missing posters over your neighborhood for a few weeks. The case had quickly gone cold though, and you remained one of the thousands of missing people who would never turn up each year. You often sat and thought about how many of them had become vampires, led into a life of darkness never able to return to the light again. And you thought about how many of them were the victims of those vampires.
You run along the rooftop, following silently behind the boy as he makes his way home. You know the way already, the route he always goes to get there. It’s a simple two story house on a street that housed a lot of students at the university. He lives there with two roommates, all three of them undergraduates. Jeongin, his best friend Seungmin, and an acquaintance Young-hyun. Jeongin was the one you watched, the one that interested you.
You had met by accident. You had been wandering the university’s paths unaware the night classes had just let out. You had walked right into him, trying to hurry away from the bleary-eyed students. He had apologized despite it being your fault, offering you a dimpled smile that had your frozen heart warming just the slightest.
You had been following him since, having memorized his schedule this semester. He would get out of class around 9 PM and head right home to eat and study. Seungmin would greet him before heading to bed to get up early for his morning class. Young-hyun worked nights so he was always gone, sleeping during the day when the other two were away at classes. You had only caught glimpses of Young-hyun, usually on the weekends when all three were home all day.
You lay yourself flat on the roof, listening in on the conversation happening in Jeongin’s room. His room was at the front of the house on the second floor. He liked the window open when it was nice out, preferring the fresh air. That also made your life easier.
“Did you see JB is throwing a party this weekend?” Seungmin says, flopping back on Jeongin’s bed.
“Why do you want to hang out with them?” Jeongin asks, spinning around in his desk chair.
“Because, these are the people that are going to be running the companies that we’re going to work for. If we get to know them now, we have an in later after we graduate.”
“I don’t know. I’m not much of a party person.” Jeongin says.
“Neither am I. We just go, hang out for a while, and then we leave before things get too crazy. It’s a chance for you to get out. Maybe meet some girls.”
A book hits the wall, probably thrown by Jeongin at Seungmin. An idea forms in your head, a smile grows on your face as Seungmin bids his friend goodnight, and Jeongin settles in to study for the next few hours. You lay there on the roof until he falls asleep, listening to the steady beat of his heart for a moment before getting up, heading back to the house before the sun comes up.
You make your way up to your room, pausing in Hyunjin’s doorway. It’s open, your vampire sire sitting near the window with a laptop. It was his fourth one this year, having broken the other three in tantrums over something stupid you were sure.
“Hyunjinnie I need money.” You say, approaching the vampire.
He doesn’t bother looking up, still typing on the computer. “Why?”
“I want to go shopping.”
“Why?”
“I want to buy new clothes.”
“Why?”
“Because I do.”
He glances at you for a second. “No.”
“Why not!”
“You already have clothes.”
“But I want new ones!”
“No. Go ask Felix if you’re so desperate.”
You sigh dramatically, stomping out of his room. You thought maybe you could annoy him enough to give in without having to explain but it seemed that wasn’t going to work this time. You could have just asked Felix, but he would want to know what it was for. Which meant you had to give away your plan and risk the elder vampire locking you away to keep you from executing your plan. He’d done it before. You’re sure he’ll do it again.
You find him in the basement, closing the furnace doors. “Felix.” You lean against the wall casually. “I need money.”
“Why?” He asks, pulling the lever to turn the furnace on.
“I want to buy clothes.” You say, moving away from the intense heat coming through the door.
“What for?”
You chew on your lip. “A party this weekend.”
He raises his eyebrows at you. “A party?”
You nod. “At the college. I want to go.”
“Does this have anything to do with the boy?”
You nod slowly. “He’s going and...maybe...I thought I might...get to see him closer.”
Felix grips your arms gently, holding you at arm's length. “You have to be careful. Things could go wrong very fast and I don’t want you getting hurt. Feed before if you have to. Just in case.”
You nod. “I know. I just...really like him and I thought...maybe if I could just meet him once...I could get him out of my head.”
Felix smiles a knowing smile, digging his card out of his wallet. “Be careful. I don’t want you getting hurt, or hurting anyone else.”
You nod. “I promise I’ll be careful. Oh, and if we could keep this between us...”
