it had been a rough game from the start. the sharks were off from the first puck drop. it seemed like no matter what they did, nothing was working. nothing was coming together. warsofsky was pissed; the team was pissed; the fans were pissed.
their opponents were way bigger than all of them. more defensive, more offensive. it's not even fully through the second period and the sharks are already down 5-0. the other team had been showing cheap shots all night, and the refs had done nothing.
reaves had already been ejected for fighting, and toffoli's on his way to it for arguing with the refs about the bullshit calls they're making on the sharks, and the ones they're letting go by for the other team.
will had been benched after his last shift directly resulted in a goal against, and now he was pissed. everyone else had made their mistakes so far tonight, but no one else is being punished for it other than will.
he took a deep breath, trying to keep it in. everyone on the the team and in the organization knew of his true lineage, what he truly was, but no one else. and he couldn't afford to let it slip. not in front of everyone. not when you're watching from home, waiting up for him and macklin.
speaking of macklin, will almost jumped off the bench when he saw macklin get slammed into the boards at a really bad angle. really bad. like the way his body twisted; will's not even sure that's possible for a normal human.
his eyes went red and the veins underneath darkened. it wasn't even the scent of blood that set him off. it was that macklin was hit. macklin was hurt. his macklin.
it's like his legs had a mind of their own and he went to rush out to macklin as the trainers came rushing out, urgently. macklin's blood was already staining the ice red. dellandrea and misa had to physically hold him back.
he couldn't help the small growl that came out of his mouth as the trainers took macklin off the ice, blood trailing after them in a singular red line. will pushed dellandrea and misa off of him, not caring that his brute strength sent them tumbling backwards over the bench a little bit.
he pushed past warsofsky and anyone else who tried to stop him as he ran down the hall towards the medical room where he could hear macklin screaming in pain. he couldn't focus on anything else. especially once the screaming stopped.
he rounded the corner into the room and macklin had gone pale, passed out from the blood loss. this is a sight will had never wanted to or thought he'd see in his entire lifetime.
'he's losing too much blood.' one of the medical staff.
they didn't know what to do. they'd never had an injury this bad in their careers. this was bad. extremely. it's too late to get him to a hospital. looking at it right now, there's a very high chance that this is it.
will pushed into the room, eyes locked on macklin's lifeless form. he could... no. him and macklin had never talked about it. will didn't want to take away his autonomy, his right to choose, but it's a matter of life or death, and will would much rather have macklin alive.
so, he did it. he crossed the room in three long strides, knelt down by macklin on the table, tilted his head just a bit, and then lowered his mouth to macklin's neck, sinking his teeth in.
you looked up from where you were biting your nails and staring at the tv screen after you'd shut it off. the minute macklin went down and was escorted off the ice, will rushing after him, you'd turned it off. you couldn't watch your boyfriend like that.
but now they were home. you heard keys in the lock on your apartment door and jumped up as it opened to see will carrying macklin into the apartment.
'what happened? is he- what's-' you couldn't even get a full sentence out.
will placed macklin down on the couch. he looked pale. the familiar rosy tint to his cheeks very faint. then will turned to look at you. now, he looked the same, but there was something different about him. something... dangerous feeling.
you stepped backwards, away from him a bit. 'will?' you asked.
'i did something. he's gonna be okay. but i did something.' he said.
you stepped back further. this was... different. he looked... different.
'are you scared?' will asked, knowing the veins underneath his eyes had gone dark again. 'i can your heartbeat, love.'
you stepped back again. 'should i be?' you asked.
all of a sudden, he was in front of you, having crossed the room in about two seconds. he cupped your cheek with his hand.
'no, i'd never hurt you.' he said. 'neither will mack.'
you gulped. your hearing was going fuzzy, heart rate picking up even more. your breathing picked up, face red. he was dangerous. you should be scared. but you're not. he's intoxicating. and you feel safe.
'you know what i am, right? what mack's about to be?' he asked.
you nodded. you'd been silently putting it together for weeks. the way will is attached to his cross necklace; how he freaks out not having it when it's sunny; how he avoids italian food because he 'hates garlic', gets in these moods where he doesn't want to see you; how he eats his steak so bloody it's basically still mooing.
'you're a vampire.' you said, ducking your head down.
'that's right. now, so is mack.' he said, showing you his fangs just a bit. not enough to scare you; not that you would be.
you both heard a groan from the couch. macklin is waking up. about to realize he's not himself anymore. not human.
will positioned himself behind you, a tight grip on your hips as he leaned down to whisper in your ear.
'you gonna let him feed from you, baby?'
that shouldn't have affected you that much, but the thought of it, and will's voice as he said it, had you going weak in the knees.
macklin looked over to will when he fully sat up. 'you changed me.' he said. he didn't sound mad or upset. more relieved.
'i did. you would've died.' will said. 'and i love you too much to let that happen.'
'thank you.' macklin said, but then his breathing picked up, and his eyes darted back and forth between will, you, and the door.
'she knows.' will said. 'and you're hungry.'
he nudged you forward so that you were sitting on the couch next to macklin. you weren't scared. they wouldn't hurt you. you placed your hand on macklin's cheek. his cheeks still had that faint rosy tinge you loved so much.
he inhaled deeply. everything was heightened. especially his sense of smell. your vanilla perfume you always wore, along with a new citrusy scent that he could only describe as 'you.' he turned his head, nosing along at your wrist. your pulse was right there; blood flowing underneath the surface.
'you can.' you told him, quietly.
'it's better from the neck.' will said, tangling his hand in your hair and tilting your head back a bit, baring your neck to macklin, making you moan a little bit.
'are you sure?' macklin asked, eyes flicking to yours.
you nodded, baring your neck more.
'right here.' will told him, trailing his finger down your neck and to your carotid pulse. 'gently. you don't want to damage the nerves.'
he helped guide macklin's head into position, keeping a hand in your hair, thumb reassuringly tracing along your temple.
'relax, baby.' he said.
you took a deep breath as macklin's teeth, his new fangs, just grazed your pulse point, kissing lightly before biting down. you gasped. it hurt, but then it started to feel good. your eyes closed in ecstasy at the pleasure you didn't expect from this.
never in a million years did you ever imagine that both of your boyfriends would end up being vampires and having to feed from you. but now? you wouldn't change a thing.
you felt will's eyes on you and you opened your eyes again. he cupped your cheek in his hand again before leaning down and capturing his lips with yours. you moaned into it, one hand coming up to tangle in his blonde curls.
you moaned again when he lightly bit into your lip, breaking the skin, using his tongue to swipe at the blood that pooled there and into his mouth. some drippling down the side of your mouth, and he chased it with his tongue.
he pressed another gentle kiss on your lips as the puncture wounds closed over, and then grabbed macklin by the shoulders and pulled him back to stop him from going too far. but it was sure they're gonna be addicted to the taste of you now.
macklin pressed a kiss to your neck, letting the puncture wounds from his fangs close over. he hadn't expected that. how good it was. and how much better he feels now.
'thank you.' he said.
'anytime.' you said, kind of dazed.
will leaned down, pressing a kiss on the top of your forehead. 'we're gonna take care of you, don't you worry. thank you.'
'i liked that.' you admitted after a beat of silence. 'like actually liked it. it felt good. really good.' you said.
'you did? good.' will said. 'means you're ours forever now.' he said, kissing your knuckles.
'you can... drink from me... anytime you... need it.' you said, letting macklin tuck you under his arm, pressing a loving kiss to your cheek.
'i love you.' you said to the both of them once you were all settled back on the couch and cleaned up and will had brought you some water.
'i love you.' they both said.
you smirked. 'you know... two vampire boyfriends? kinda hot.'
