"tastes good?" yuuta asked with a smile, shrouded the same happy-go-lucky aura as he'd always been. it felt wrong given the circumstance, but when glancing over the pure happiness etched on his expression, you couldn't argue.
"where did it come from?" you ask, another sip from the glass. he shrugged, a chipper giggle from lips. you hadn't placed the drink on the counter yet, and as the bottom had hovered above wood, yuuta placed a hand beneath to push it upward, guiding it back to your mouth.
"don't let it go to waste, okay?"
you couldn't deny him when he'd been so genuinely infatuated with you. yuuta had always looked out for you, and had always been there to protect you. the prospect of becoming like him had been concerning, though when he'd looked at you with those wide, loving eyes, you'd said yes.
he'd told you this would mean you'd be more protected, and that your love would span eternity. after-all, if you're immortal, why would you need to break-up? there will be reprieve in your other half, and now yuuta had a mate for the rest of his life.
you placed the cup down, a crimson remnant dripping from lip to chin. yuuta was quick to place large hand on cheek and lean down, tongue pressing to skin and licking a stripe upward, iron tang welcomed by taste buds.
"whaddya say?" his lips were pressed to your ear before placing a delicate kiss.
"thank you, yuuta." he smiled on your skin, more kisses pressed to cheek and trailing to your mouth.
"that's my girl."

Part One
You knew vampires are weird but when two Moroi guys came to you at lunch, you felt that they’re borderline creepy. “I heard you can take down two guys at once, blood whore.” He glanced at the bite mark on your neck that made you hide it with your hair. “Enjoying a Moroi-Dhampir threesome?” How about a Moroi-Moroi one?”
What drugs are these vampires on? You rolled your eyes while shaking your head. You stepped forward, ready to leave them when one of the guys yanked your hair and pulled you to the table. The glassware shattered causing cuts on your bare arms. “You do smell great.” One of the Moroi guys claimed before he was held back by someone. “Oh look, the Dhampir boyfriend is here.”
Yuta kneeled to check your arms that are covered in blood. “Can you walk?” You nodded. It’s your arm that is injured, not your legs. But it was a futile attempt to tell him when he carried you on his arms, bridal style. “As expected, Morois are disgusting creatures.”
“You might have forgotten what you are, Yuta.”
The hospital room in the academy was the last place you want to go but this guy, the almighty Yuta, decided that it was best to treat your wounds. You cannot blame him. You’ve spent more time with vampires to know that having these open cuts is trouble.
“Am I not training you to be a great guardian?” he asked, fuming in anger. “Why can’t you defend yourself from those two lanky guys?”
A giggle escaped your lips which made him look at you. “A Moroi always comes first. Isn’t it our duty to protect them?” He glared at you, making you laugh once again. He mouthed the words ‘Not every time’ that startled you. “Do you hate them that much?”
Before he could answer your question, Sicheng came peeking inside the room while looking really worried. Yuta excused himself, leaving you with your friend who sat on the same chair Yuta was earlier. “What happened?”
You laughed. “It’s nothing. Just cuts.” Both of you stared at the cuts in your arm that has medicine put by the other Dhampir. “Why are you awake? It’s like the middle of your sleeping…”
“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “You shouldn’t suffer like this because of me, Y/N.”
You held his cheek, surprised that it was rather warm. “I’m not suffering, Sicheng. Besides, I promise your parents that I will protect you.”
“I don’t want you to protect me always, Y/N.” He held your hand, the warmth of his skin making you shiver in unfamiliarity. You’re used to Sicheng being as cold as ice. Why is he like this all of a sudden? “I want you to stay beside me, not as my guardian but…” His words didn’t register in your ear as you felt the warmth of his skin travel on yours. The cuts on your arms closed on their own as if you didn’t get hurt earlier. The scars and the bite marks on your hand even disappeared.
“Sicheng. What did you do?”
He looked surprised at what happened before blood went out of his nose. This was a first. A vampire bleeding out in front of you. You only looked at each other and knew that you were wondering of the same thing. What just happened?
That night, Yuta was surprised when you showed up for training. He inquired about your cuts but you just shrugged him before holding your hand and raising the sleeves of your arm. “What happened?” he asked and you shook your head. “Someone healed you.” Of course, that’s obvious. But maybe Yuta knows something that you and Sicheng don’t. “Sicheng,” he whispered.
The door opened and you both turned to the person who just came in the door, surprised to see the man he just mentioned. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m skipping class to train with you.” What? You tried to talk Sicheng out of it but it was Yuta who agreed for him to join you. The Moroi begged bot to be easy on him and give him the same treatment as you which made you anxious. True, Yuta never showed mercy and kept on throwing the groaning Sicheng on the matted ground. You looked at him in concern, questioning yourself if Sicheng is now a masochist who enjoyed the pain.
Yuta lend a hand for the other guy to take and helped him stand up. You quickly asked them to stop noticing how Sicheng held his shoulder. “Are you alright?” you asked, checking his shoulder. Your friend nodded then winced in pain. “What are you doing?”
“I can’t always ask you to protect me, Y/N.” Sicheng’s eyes are warm. A different expression that you’ve seen from him. Yet, you cannot tap his emotions this instant, unlike the other times.
Yuta lightly coughed and you were reminded that there’s another person in the room. “Let’s continue the training tomorrow.” Before you could say anything, he went out of the room. Why is he mad again?
Every day Sicheng will always come to your training sessions. You were worried about him skipping class but knowing how smart he is; it feels stupid to be worrying about it. If there is one thing you should be worried about, that should be Yuta. You still don’t know why he hated Morois so much and he’d shown a great dislike for Sicheng. He would always be grumpy, always brute when it comes to charging attacks on you and the Moroi.
The only time Sicheng didn’t attend training is when Yuta brought you outside in the sunlight. Strigois doesn’t attack in daylight but being outside can give you more space to practice the skills Yuta had been training you for. He handed you a silver stake that surprised you. Before, you only saw these in pictures or when other guardians have these in their carriers. Now, you’re holding one.
“Imagine that I’m a Strigoi and you have to kill me,” he claimed. What? But you might hurt him. He held your shoulder and you turned to swing your stake on him, yet Yuta dodged you once again. “Strigois are fast, Y/N.” He tried holding your other shoulder and you swing to the opposite side to catch him. “Not only that, Strigois can end up with a face you knew. A vampire who you passed on the academy, a friend...” With his fast hands, Yuta took the stake from your hand and pointed it against your chest. “Even family.”
The flash of sadness in his eyes made you confused. There’s something more to Yuta than meets the eye. Now, it all makes sense. The hate for Morois. The Strigoi kills mirrored on his neck. It all makes perfect sense. “Yuta Nakamoto,” you whispered. “You’re from the Nakamoto clan.”
It was one of the most affluent family of vampires. Even a king from the vampire world before is a Nakamoto but he cannot have any successor to the throne when he died, hence the throne was transferred to the second heir to the lineage. The Lees. Which will later on move to the next in line to the throne, the Dong’s. Sicheng’s family. “You’re not a Dhampir.” That explains why he’s fast at everything.
“I am,” he claimed, returning the stake to you. No, he’s not. His father is supposed to be the prince of the vampire world. That makes him a royal Moroi. “My mother is a human.” You gasped at the revelation. “A blood host to be exact.” But Still, the first child of a Moroi and human is still Moroi in blood. “I’m the second child, Y/N.” Wait, he has an older sibling?
“My dad turned Strigoi after sucking my mom dry. I have to kill him to protect my older sister.” The Strigoi mark on his neck. “We ran away and she became a Strigoi herself.” Everything makes perfect sense now. “I had to kill her.”
The sadness in his features made you more aware of his emotions. “I’m sorry Yuta.” he shook his head but you knew how he felt deep down inside. It’s weird. You cannot feel him like Sicheng but your heart is hurting seeing the expression on his face.
“So Y/N, please protect the future king.” But the way he said those words sounded so bitter. If his dad didn’t become a Strigoi, he should have been the prince of the vampire world. This must mean so much to him. You nodded and he smiled, holding your shoulder.
A sudden bolt of electricity can be felt in your body as you felt your senses sinking away. Sicheng. To your surprise, you saw yourself looking down with Yuta holding you on the shoulder from afar. You blinked to return to your senses when Yuta asked you what happened, worriedly. When you turned your head to the side, Sicheng was looking at the two of you standing under the shade of the academy. Yuta put down his hand from your shoulder just as Sicheng turned around to go back inside the academy.
Why is Sicheng angry?
You thought he would go back to his room or maybe attend class since the sun is almost set but he was crouched down in front of the large statue by the academy field. “Sicheng,” you called but he didn’t turn to you instead focused on the insect on his hand. The butterfly looked lifeless. What is he trying to do now? “Sicheng, it’s dead.” But as you said those words, its wings flapped. You watched as the lifeless animal flew away as if nothing happened.
A thud can be heard and Yuta immediately ran to wake up Sicheng who was laying on the ground. Open cuts can be seen on his arm that startled you. “Spirit,” Yuta whispered. “Like my sister.”
You knew Sicheng is having a hard time mastering an ability. Other Morois had already developed their expertise in Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire magic but even when you returned to the academy, you never heard about him possessing an ability. The fact that you ran away from the academy instead of letting him practice his ability made you guilty. But now, you realized Sicheng is bound to do more things than just the typical powers the other Moroi has.
Yuta told you all about the ability of Spirit, which his older sister possesses. She can heal anything, a wounded person or even animals on the brink of death. He had never seen her bring back a dead before so he thought it wasn’t possible. Yet, the Moroi lying on the hospital bed is proving otherwise. You glanced at the wounds on his arm then at the guy seated on the chair beside you who patched up his wounds. “Yuta, you said your sister become Strigoi. Is it related to this?”
He didn’t say anything and just stared at Sicheng. Maybe he doesn’t want to talk about it. Yuta had struck you as the quiet man who would rather put his affairs in private. You decided to shrug him but he only whispered in a soft voice the words, “Y/N, what Sicheng did might put him in danger. Please, don’t let him use it again.”
From that simple words, you realized that it’s not the Strigois who you should protect Sicheng from. You had to protect him from himself.
Other than the hospital room, you also hated the library of the school. All these books give you a headache just by looking at them. But there are questions in your mind that needed some answers. Spirit. Yuta calls it that. Surely, there is something written in the books about it. Four books about Moroi abilities and the Moroi vampires but there’s nothing that states about it.
Should you just ask Yuta about it? He probably knows a lot since he experienced it. But how can you ask about it without mentioning his family? Annoyed, you just put your head on top of the table. You should be training to kill right now. Not studying these books.
The sudden feeling of drowning came to you which you immediately recognize. Sicheng. It was a Moroi party, one that his parents would always host when you were kids. Except now, you’ve both grown up. His parents were smiling at him but he found himself outside of the halls to the balcony. The place was unfamiliar until you saw yourself, in a silver dress filled with blood. Someone was holding you by the waist, face nuzzled on your neck. When he called for your name, you stared at him with light-colored eyes and a fang appeared on your lips.
You immediately recognize the guy with you as Yuta. Sicheng turned back to the party, seeing the glass door full of blood and a shadow of someone killing the guests inside. You felt his fear when you leaned closer to bite him on the neck. Then it was gone.
Fuck this one-way bond! But why is he dreaming of those things always?
You waited for him to pass the common area but he avoided your gaze that made you startled. “Sicheng,” you called but he walked faster to avoid you. “Hey, I need to talk to you.” When he glanced at you, you realized why he’s acting indifferent. He’s hungry once again.
His eyes got lighter and lighter as days passed and you heard from other Morois that he’s not himself lately. He’s still avoiding you which made you so worried for him. If this continues, he’ll die of hunger. “You’re not focused,” Yuta whispered when he almost hit your face with his fist while training some punches. “Is it Sicheng?”
“I’m worried.” you sighed, “He looks dead.”
“He is a vampire.” You rolled your eyes at him. “I think he’s using his ability so much and it drains his energy.” So that’s why Yuta told you to stop Sicheng from using his ability. “I saw how my sister got crazy because of that ability. How she can heal other people but not herself. Every time she heals someone; she would end up having these wounds on her arm.” The same as what happened to Sicheng. “She cannot take the pain anymore and wanted to remove it from her....”
You ready your heart for what he was going to say next. “She sucked her blood host dry that turned her into Strigoi.” A gasp escaped your lips. It can happen to Sicheng. “Save Sicheng.”
The nightmares become worse every time. His emotions grow into something more intense that you can always feel him. This isn’t right, anymore. You shouldn’t be in the Moroi wing of the academy but you found yourself climbing on the balcony of Sicheng’s room. You’ll get in trouble again but you didn’t care, Sicheng is more important now.
“What are you doing here?” His skin is paler than before. If possible, he looked so white that you thought he’s a statue. His eyes were so light in color as he stared at you in worry. “You shouldn’t be here, Y/N. Leave.”
But you stepped forward to hold his cheek. His skin felt as cold as ice. “Sicheng,” you whispered. “Bite me.”
“I might hurt you.” You shook your head, smiling at him. His lips were cold but his breath was warm against your neck. When you felt his fangs in your skin, you let out a moan and let your body be held by his arms. The feeling of warmth traveled on your body, blood rushing to your veins. “I’m sorry, Y/N.”
A giggle escaped your lips when he handed you a towel to wipe the blood on your neck. The color in his face is back, eyes dark in color that made you breathe in relief. “Are you feeling better now?” Sicheng nodded. “I hope you won’t have that dreams anymore.”
“So you do see me at times?” You nodded. Doesn’t he believe you? “Have you seen me naked?”
You threw the towel at him while laughing. “That’s gross!” Sicheng laughed as well and you smiled. It’s been so long since you heard that kind of laugh from him. “Sicheng, promise me you wouldn’t use your ability again. It’s draining you.”
“What if you get hurt?” You rolled your eyes at that. “Y/N,” he called while lying on his bed. You were seated by the foot of his bed, looking at him and answering him with a hum. “What do you want to do?” You stared at him in question, repeating the words he just muttered. “If you’re not a Dhampir. What do you think are you doing right now?”
“Maybe travel the world.” You answered with a smile. “I wanted to go to London or maybe Paris,” you said, already dreaming about walking in the streets of the amazing cities. “Or in Spain.” Just thinking about the cities made you smile, how would it feel to be in those cities? But that would be entirely impossible, given Sicheng’s position in the Vampire council and that you have to stay with him.
He only smiled when you looked at him and didn’t say anything. He pats the space beside him that startled you. “Stay with me today, Y/N.” This will get you in trouble but you’re already here, you’ll still get in trouble. Why not do something reckless today?
Sicheng felt warm. A contrast to his usual cold skin that you’re accustomed to. You don’t know why but it might be the feeling of tiredness or calmness but you felt yourself drifting to sleep, wrapped in Sicheng’s warmth.
You woke up smelling Sicheng’s scent all over the room but the warmth was gone. He was gone. Maybe he had gone to class or just outside. How long were you sleeping in his bed? When you gazed outside, the sun is still up. There’s no way Sicheng is outside. Where can he be? And fuck it, you’re late for class.
The class seemed the usual classes you have except you felt like something is missing. Someone, rather. It’s unusual that Yuta didn’t attend class but three classes later and you haven’t seen him even once. How about Sicheng? You haven’t seen him as well. Where could those two be?
You make way to the Moroi wing when a butterfly captured your attention. The wings are blue and it was flapping as if purposely getting your attention. The black spots under his wing made you realize that the animal is indeed familiar. You remembered the butterfly, the dead animal Sicheng saved. Why is it here?
The animal made its way to the hallways of the school, even coming back in front of your face. What does the butterfly want? For you to follow it? Why? You followed it upstairs then to an abandoned part of the academy walls. If you thought you’ll be in trouble for sleeping inside Sicheng’s room, you’ll be surely expelled once someone can see you here. Why did the butterfly bring you here?
You were about to head down when you heard a certain voice mentioning Sicheng’s name. The headmaster. “I know you have the Spirit. You only have to cure me.”
“You can ask me nicely, you know?” You stopped in your tracks. That was Sicheng’s voice.
“No, Sicheng. You’ll get hurt if you do....” Then that’s Yuta. What are they doing here? Together?
Before you can go back to where they are, someone held your arm that made you shout in surprise. You were brought inside an old room. Yuta was lying on the floor, tied up, lifeless, and with bruises on his face. Sicheng, on the other hand, has his hand tied to the chair he was sitting at. He gave you a surprised and worried expression yet you cannot feel him. The headmaster, on the other hand, only looked at you in delight when the large man put you down.
“The shadow kissed is here.” What? Shadow kissed? You? Sicheng looked at you in apology. “Isn’t it a wonder why the only two of you survived the car crash?” The older man asked. You honestly wondered about the same thing. “And days after the accident, it was like nothing happened.” Your eyes widened in surprise at the realization. The day of the crash. Waking up with no scratch. Seeing Sicheng lying down on the bed looking pale. Sicheng’s Spirit. He saved you. No, he brought you back from the dead.
Is that why you have a bond with Sicheng? You can see Sicheng’s emotions because of what he had done. You almost killed Sicheng. What kind of guardian are you?
You felt your lung constrict of air, as well as your throat getting choked without anyone holding you. Air magic. Done by the headmaster. “Heal me, Sicheng. Or I’ll kill this little Dhampir girl.” The look on his face is pure evil as he waved his hand to tighten remove the air out of you.
“Stop it. I’ll do it.”
The older man smiled as he clapped his hands, making you gasp for air. “No, don’t Sicheng.” You said while trying to catch your breath. “You’ll hurt yourself. Don’t.”
“Shut up!” The headmaster shouted before waving his hand to put a hold on your throat again. The impact of the air magic was too much that you fell next to Yuta. You wanted to help him remove the binds on his arms but realized that magic is used to tie him up. Only a Moroi can remove it.
When you glanced at Sicheng, he was already holding the headmaster’s hand. The color slowly fades out of his skin as the older man’s skin started getting smooth before your eyes. It’s as if he’s back to his younger self. All because of Sicheng. At this rate, Sicheng might just die treating the headmaster. You needed to put a stop to this.
You tied your shoelace, remembering all the training Yuta had given you. In a snap, you were already head locking one of the bodyguards by the door and throwing his large body to the other one charging at you. You landed a punch on another guy’s face before kicking him in the crotch and although the impact kind of hurts, it was the adrenaline running into your veins that caused the fall of five bodyguards.
Your body was held again, by an invisible rope dragging you backward. The air magic stopping your breathing is back again. “I’ve always disliked you, Y/N.” the older man muttered, voice different from before. Sicheng was already lying lifeless on the chair he’s tied at. His skin is as pale as snow and even if you’re mere inches from him, you can feel the coldness of his skin. Wait, he can’t be dead, right? “Such a nosy little brat.”
“Let go of me.”
“Now that I’m younger. No one can stop me.” A sinister look can be seen in his eyes as he held your cheeks, raising you from the ground. You struggled to get out of his hold, out of those hands. “Now, it’s time to be more powerful.” He let go of you that made you fall on the ground, hands and knees giving in on you.
This might be your end. At least you can meet your parents again this way.
You waited for a dagger to kill you instead you felt warm hands hold your shoulders as weight can be felt from your back. Warm. It’s impossible that it’s Sicheng. When you raised your head to look at Yuta, he was nowhere. No, it’s not possible.
The color on Yuta’s face was gone that if possible he’s even paler than Sicheng when he dropped on the floor beside you. A groan can be heard and when you turned around, you only saw the headmaster’s sharp fangs covered in blood as red as his eyes. A Strigoi. He had turned Strigoi. He killed Yuta. He already sucked him dry of blood.
This shouldn’t happen. Your eyes were slowly getting blurry, but the shining silver object on your fellow Dhampir’s pocket is all you can see. His silver stake.
He hurt Sicheng. He hurt Yuta.
In anger, you drove the stake to his chest and he released a guttural groan. It might have scared you but your mind is clouded with revenge for hurting the people you care about the most. You pushed the stake farther in his chest, liking the gushing of blood appearing from the slice of his body.
The creature started shouting as you watched him slowly disintegrate into ashes. Strigoi gets killed like this? The silver stake fell on the ground creating a loud clung. Immediately, you ran to Sicheng’s side and tapped his cheeks after removing the ropes on his wrist. He looked so weak when he opened his eyes and you were relieved that he’s alive. “Yuta.” he called weakly as you stared at the other guy lying on the ground.
“Yuta.” you tried to shake him, calling for his name. “Yuta, please wake up.” You called but his body is too cold, chest not heaving. “Yuta, please.”
Sicheng reached out to hold your shoulder. “I’ll save him,” he claimed, kneeling beside you. “But I have to…”
You didn’t need another word from him, knowing full well what will happen. “Bite me.”
The pain of his fangs piercing your skin and the blood rushing to your neck made you light-headed. You can feel Sicheng’s warmth coming back before everything blacked out.
Before you open your eyes, you can hear the sound of beeping. The light is already blinding you before you can even see it and know exactly where you are. Strange though, there is something warm wrapped in your hand. Someone holding you.
Sicheng’s worried face came to view when you decided to finally open your eyes. The color in his face is back, his eyes looking relieved while staring at you. “Are you using Spirit on me?” He smiled before shaking his head and that’s when you felt the pain on the side of your neck. “Are you alright?” You tried to reach out for his cheeks, feeling it warm again.
He nodded, holding your hand with his two hands before kissing your palm. It startled you. He had never done that before. What is with the sudden intimacy? “I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I put you in danger.” But that is your job as his guardian. “Y/N, I don’t want to cause you harm like that again. I’m sorry for being incompetent.”
Wait, what is he saying? “I’m going to accept the position as the king. It’s a long way to the throne but I’m willing to learn and to change everything in this vampire world.” That’s actually great news. But why do you feel so nervous? “That means I’ll put you in more danger in the future.”
“Sicheng…”
“Please don’t be my guardian.” You stared at him in surprise. He doesn’t want you anymore? “I’m scared that I’ll eventually hurt you. That you might be killed because of me. I can’t bear that, Y/N.” His eyes looked so sad, so broken. “I’d rather be away from you than end up hurting you.”
Maybe the bond is gone now. You knew he was sad. It was written on his face. But you cannot feel his emotions. Or is it because you were next to each other. “Please live your life. Travel the world, have fun in Paris and Rome. Do what makes you happy, Y/N.”
A smile appeared on your face, asking him to move closer to you. He sat on the space on the bed before you wrapped your arms around him. It feels weird to be hugging the person you have been with all your life without his intention of biting your neck for blood. “Thank you, Sicheng.” You whispered before feeling him smile, hugging you tight.
“Now, what are you going to do with Yuta?” You gave him a curious look asking what he meant. “I’ve never seen you cry before, not even in your parent’s funeral,” he claimed which made you confused. “The only time I saw you cry is when you found out Yuta is dead.”
It was a weird feeling. He was teaching you how to fight properly the past days and the emotions surged when he lay lifeless on the ground, all because of you. You still wanted to boast to him that you killed a Strigoi. That you killed the person who hurt him and Sicheng. Maybe you liked Yuta more than you thought. “Sicheng, I’ll do the same thing if it was you.” You held his cheek just as a smile appeared on his lips. The same way as what you feel about Sicheng. “I care about you and Yuta.”
But you knew staying with them would only pain you. Pain them. If the same thing happens, you wouldn’t know who to save first. The Moroi or the Dhampir. You wanted to protect them but eventually, it will end up with them protecting you.
Yuta was outside the academy in broad sunlight, laying down the grass and looking so calm. He’s back to his own self and although there are still some bruises on his face, he still looked as dashing as when you first met him. “Hey!” you greeted, sitting beside him on the grass. He smiled then asked how you were feeling. “Still light-headed but they said a little sunlight might make me better.”
It was silent for a while before he spoke up, “When are you leaving for Paris?” You glanced at him in surprise. How did he know that? “Sicheng told me.”
So they already talked? “Three days from now.” You blew a heavy breath before stretching your arms. “I’m already excited to see something new.”
Yuta smiled while looking at you. “I’m glad you can finally do what you want to do.” He said in a hushed voice. What about him? If he’s not a Dhampir, what should he be doing now? “I wish you all the happiness, Y/N. You deserve it.”
“You’ll see me in Paris, right?”
The guy smiled. “I’ll go with the prince, don’t worry.” Before you could ask what he meant by that, he supplied that Sicheng personally asked him to be his guardian. You squinted your eyes, looking so offended. Did Sicheng just send you away so he can make Yuta his guardian? “I’m actually glad things turn out this way.” Damn, these two! You suddenly felt betrayed.
“If danger comes, I don’t know who to save first.” Yuta continued that startled you, “The prince or you.”
The same dilemma you had. It must be the shadow kissed bond that you and Yuta are always thinking of the same thing.
A chuckle escaped your lips. “Then please take care of Sicheng.” He smiled timidly, nodding at you. “And take care of yourself as well.” You held his cheek, the same way you always did to Sicheng. He’s warm, warmer than the Moroi. You leaned your face closer to his and as instinct, Yuta closed his eyes.
You smirked before tackling him to the ground, laughing while you place your hand on his chest. Yuta laughed, admitting his defeat. “Yuta, thank you for everything.”
“No, Y/N. Thank you for coming into my life.”
Paris is so different than the usual town you go to. It is everything you could imagine. The city you always dreamed of. Although you have been miles away from the academy, you cannot escape the world you are in. There are times when you knew that the person passing by is a vampire. Times when you knew, even with the smell of pastries, that your customer is a vampire. A world you cannot escape. A world being ruled by the person who you spent most of your life with.
It’s weird how you could remember him being all so shy whenever someone would talk to him, like a young boy. Yet now, he was standing above every other person of his kind, ruling them with confidence. He truly changed. Now, you don’t have to worry that he’s not eating well.
Next to him was the guardian you despised from way before. The reason why you were returned to the academy after months of hiding. The guardian who taught you everything and the only Dhampir you actually became friends with. Honestly, he didn’t change in appearance but being the guardian of the prince just made him cooler in your eyes.
They were always together. Like Sicheng and you outside the academy. Like Yuta and you inside the academy.
You used to wonder what could happen if you didn’t leave. Will the three of you stay together? Will you become Sicheng’s guardian? Then, what about Yuta? Or will you be transferred to another Moroi?
The flowers outside your shop were blooming prettily today when a blue-winged butterfly caught your attention. When it flapped its wings, black spots can be seen under it. Sicheng’s butterfly. Your fellow shadow kissed creature. What is it doing here in Paris? You watched as it flew on the opposite street, above the cars passing along the road. The moment the road cleared up, you saw the butterfly land on two guys who were looking at you with a smile on their faces.
You mirrored their expression. And as they make their way to you, you realized that everything is better now. Them, together. The Prince and the Guardian.
“A pastry shop?” Sicheng asked that made you nod, gesturing at the white glass door of your shop. “I’ve never seen you cook before.”
You giggled. He never did.
“So what does the name of your shop mean?” Yuta asked, staring at the huge marquee of your shop.
You smiled before letting them in as the smell of sweet confection filled your senses. It was the perfect name you could come up with when starting your shop. A word you always associated with yourself and the encounters you have in your life. “Bite me.”

The sharp, cold bricks dug into your shoulder blade as the man held a knife against your throat with clammy hands. The misty night air blew into your face with each of his rugged breaths. His chest heaved unnervingly and his eyes were hooded with a glint of something unpredictable. He had clearly gone made and you were facing the brunt of his insanity. You cursed yourself for walking home alone at night.
"Give me your money," he demanded, stuttering over his words. You couldn't tell if he was drunk or just crazy, but didn't want to risk it either way. "Ok, ok" you tried to sooth his anticipation in hopes he wouldn't just stab you right then and there.
Before you had the chance to pull out your wallet, the assalent was thrown to the ground and you were left in a state of shock, shaking and mumbling in fear. Every muscle and nerve in your body was heightened, and yet you felt frozen in place; unable to move or run. You looked up to find a man dressed in all black. He grabbed the mugger by his collar and lifted him from the ground effortlessly. He had your attacker quivering in fear and running for his life. He ran out of the alleyway, leaving the shiny silver knife that was pressed against your throat just moments before laying on the cold, hard cement. You lifted your chin and cowered away, eyes glossed over from the panic that refused to fade away. "W-who are you?" You managed to stutter out in a shaky voice.
Vampire!Yuta, who was barely visible in the dark light of the ally looked up at you. "You didn't see me." His voice was honeyed and gruff, but that wasn't what caught your attention.
Under the effervescent moon you could've sworn his eyes flashed red; and before you could question it, he was gone.

In the darkness of the night, you pull your sweater sleeves over your fingers, playing with the frays at the ends as you walk. The path was a familiar one you had taken many times and would take many more. You knew the twists and turns as if you’d walked it a million times. As the old gates to the infamous abandoned cemetery come into view, a smile breaks out on your face.
“Hmm, where could you be hiding today,” you muse playfully. The movement of a shadow over a nearby tombstone draws your attention and you follow it to an elegant gravestone. “I should have known you would come to this one.”
“Well, of course, it’s my favorite perch,” the brunette atop the stone grins.
“You’re such a show-off, Yuta! I don’t even know how you get up there,” you laugh and try to swat him down. Yuta leans his face down just out of reach and smirks.
“Missed me,” he teases.
“Ugh, you’re no fun. Get down from there already and give me a hug, I missed you!” you whine, still trying to hit him.
“Alright, alright!” he jumps down effortlessly and pouts as you hit his chest. “Ow, you bully.”
“Oh, I’m the bully?” you raise an eyebrow, “I’m pretty sure you’re the one always teasing me! Even Johnny would agree.”
“Whatever, come here,” Yuta pulls you into a hug and buries his face into your hair, taking in your sweet scent. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too,” you giggle and pull away from the hug. Yuta lets you go, wishing he could keep you in his arms like that forever. He sighs and begins to think about his predicament.
You knew who Yuta was, but you didn’t know what he was, or who he was to you. Yuta had kept these little secrets to himself. He had first found you when you were two, you bumped into him while walking around town with your mother one evening. He had been watching over you ever since, waiting for the right moment to tell you. He waited till you were old enough before he even introduced himself and thought he would be able to easily tell you everything, but he couldn’t do it. He had watched you grow up and he was absolutely terrified that everything would fall apart if he told you.
“Yuta?” your voice brings his focus back.
“Sorry, I was just thinking,” he smiles and scratches the back of his head.
“You always seem to space out like that when you’re around me. Am I that boring?” you joke.
“Oh yeah, totally,” he chuckles and ruffles your hair. You’re about to reply to him, but your phone rings just as you open your mouth.
“Oh, sorry. I have to take this…” you walk away as you answer the call. Yuta sighs and listens in as your mother tells you it’s time to come home. You sigh and end the call, flashing an apologetic smile at Yuta. “It’s my mom, she needs me at home.”
“Oh, that’s too bad,” he frowns.
“I’m sorry, I know we didn’t get to hang out for very long,” you frown and pull him into another hug, “Can we meet again tomorrow? I’ll be free by 3!”
“Sure, I’ll be here,” he smiles and watches quietly as you walk away and out of the gates once again.
“You need to tell her,” Jaehyun suddenly appears next to Yuta.
“Oh yeah, cause that’s worked out well for you,” he scoffs.
“That’s different. We haven’t been meeting weekly for two years,” Yuta can just hear the way Jaehyun rolls his eyes. Yuta sighs, knowing that his friend is right. He needs to tell you.
As you walk to the cemetery the next day, you feel jittery. It’s the kind of jittery you get when you know something big is about to happen. Yuta is waiting for you at the gate when you arrive at the cemetery, surprising you.
“Y/N,” he greets you with a smile, “How’s your day going?”
“Fine, yours?” you ask slightly confused. He never met you at the gate, he always made you look for him first. It made you a bit nervous, maybe that’s why you felt all jittery?
“So far so good,” he holds out a hand for you and you take it, letting him lead you to a place in the cemetery you had never been to. You look around at all the new scenery and begin to wonder why you two didn’t explore more of it.
“This place is nice,” you comment, slipping your hand from his to run it over some of the old graves. It amazed you how far some of them dated back. You walk around taking everything in as Yuta gives himself a pep talk.
“Y/N?” he calls.
“Yeah?” you shift your attention to him and smile.
“I have something I need to tell you. A couple of things actually,” Yuta’s nerves are getting to him, and he starts to wonder if this is really a good idea. He clears his throat before he continues, “You may think that this is crazy… and you may be a little freaked out, but I need you to hear me out.”
“Yuta what is it? You’re kind of freaking me out already…” you say, feeling his nervousness.
“I… I’m a vampire, and I have been since 1925. And the thing about vampires is that we have a mate, someone we’re meant to be with for the rest of eternity… and what I’m trying to say is that, well, you’re mine,” he finishes, his voice soft and drawn out. He’s utterly shocked, and a little upset, when you burst into laughter.
“Yeah, funny, and I’m a mermaid,” you joke, not taking him seriously at all. You and Yuta typically joked around so it wasn’t hard to see why you assumed it was a joke.
“Y/N, I’m being serious,” he watches as you try to calm yourself down. When you finally manage to pull yourself together, you look at him and see he’s completely serious.
“Oh… you’re being serious?” your eyes widen. Yuta nods and runs a hand through his hair, “Wait then how come you aren’t burning in the sun right now?”
“That’s honestly my least favorite question… It’s just irritating, it can’t actually kill us. It just weakens us,” he answers and you’re still shocked at how serious he is. Either he’s playing a really good prank on you, or he’s really being serious. You weren’t quite sure yet.
“Proof or it’s not real,” you comment casually. He looks at you, shocked by your demand.
“Are you serious? You really don’t believe me?” he whines, getting frustrated.
“Are you serious?” you question. He walks over to you, gripping your chin and tilting your head to his face. You watch him carefully as his eyes flash from their captivating brown to a deep, luxurious red. Seconds later, he opens his mouth to show you his fangs. You look at him in awe and move a finger up to gently touch one.
“Is that serious enough for you?” Yuta sighs and lets go of your chin, turning his head to the side. He’s upset that you’ve yet to believe him. This is not at all how he had planned for this to go. You suddenly grab his cheeks and force him to look at you.
“Is that why I feel the way I do around you?” you ask him calmly, completely unaffected by the new discovery. A small smile crosses his face, almost too small for you to notice.
“You mean how you feel whole, and like there’s no place safer than in my arms?” he starts to sound cocky. You hit his chest playfully.
“Yuta, I’m being serious don’t make it a joke!” you whine, “This is why I didn’t want to believe you!”
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop. In all seriousness, yes. That’s exactly why you feel the way you do around me, and I feel that way around you,” he answers, bringing his hand up to caress your cheek. “You aren’t afraid?”
“Why would I be afraid when my crush just told me we’re meant to be together?” you smile at him, leaning into his touch. He laughs and places a kiss on your forehead.
“Right, completely forget the fact that vampires are dangerous creatures and stuff like that,” he replies.
“Vampire or not, I’m just as in love with you now as I was before you told me,” you say softly.
“Good. I love you too,” he grins, leaning down to kiss you. In that moment, Yuta realizes he had nothing to worry about. If it was meant to be, it would be.
