Eons ago, the war waged was different to vampires against vampire hunters - it was vampires against werewolves. During his first life, when he was an Ancestor, Kaname fell in love. It was a teenager's infatuation, and the war hadn't reached its peak yet where irreversible hatred had been embedded for each other species'. Rebellion running hot in their blood, combined with teenage infatuation and believing they can conquer any conflicts that would come their way, Kaname and his first love, [Name], made a blood pact. Cutting each other's wrists with magical weapons, drinking each other's blood and murmuring the required incantations, they merged their souls together forever. In a bout of whispers, they heard the promises:
Soul bound forever,
you must only drink one from another.
Your survival is bonded together,
One cannot live without the other.
They became a bonded pair.
Initially, the soul bound connection was exhilarating because they became connected in many ways they did not expected. They felt affected by each other more - physically, emotionally, and mentally. Everything was heightened - their touch, their feelings, and love from one another - it was addictive. However, as the war between their species raged on, and hatred built up, so did their conflicts because they both refused to betray their species to protect their families.
The amplified feelings of first love and affectionate touch morphed into amplified feelings of betrayal and distrust. More so because they differed in their solutions; [Name] saw no resolution to their conflict and opted for wanting to their end their relationship and connection; Kaname wanted her by his side. The fact that she was willing end their connection so easily, so heartlessly, and refused to even fight for him, was the worst treacherous act against their love. They were soulmates - bonded by their promises forever that they both chose to do, and for Kaname, that meant they were going to fight for each other forever, love each other forever, and she was going to his - forever, no matter what happened.
[Name]'s disregard for his feelings had felt like someone had a created a hole in his chest - it hurt him so much and resulted in physical and emotional pain. Evidently, their conflict, disagreements, and even their bond seem to mean nothing to her because it was so easy for her to let go him, their bond, and experience none of his gut retching pain.
Eventually, the war tides were turning into the vampire's favour because upon discovering a life threatening weakness, they massacred all the werewolves. [Name] was the last of her kind, and held hostage in a dinky prison. Kaname attempted to negotiate with her - reinforcing how she was the last of her species, and she could be spared because she was bonded to him, could only feed off him, and so, she was not a threat to the rest of the vampires; all he wanted her to do was admit that she was wrong for abandoning him, apologise for her betrayal, ask for him to love her again and promise to actually never let him go this time around. However, she did the most unforgiveable instead, and chose to end her life - over loving him- and die with a smile on her face.
"I'm sorry Kaname," she had whispered, and blood was dripping from her lips. "I love you, please forgive me." She had begged, before she died, smiling.
Kaname was in trenches because she was a liar, she hadn't loved him, because if she had, she would have chosen him! She was selfish, because after she died, it hadn't take long for their bond to kick in - and screaming in pain, Kaname had followed her to afterlife, and experienced death for the first time.
Following this, anytime he was revived, there was a permanent feeling of hollowness weighing heavily on his chest that he could never pinpoint and forget. He never saw [Name] again, much less remember her or their soul bond. The vampire and werewolf war was so in the past, that Ancestors and the fact that they were hunted was forgotten. Instead, there were Purebloods and their created class system consisting of Aristocrats, and levels (A-E) created vampires, and conflict was between vampires and humans (including vampire hunters) where vampires, particularly, Purebloods, were on top of the food chain.
Kaname recalled none of his past, until he saw her reincarnated soul again, as a human. She wore the same face, smile, and twinkle in her eyes. Her mannerisms and personality matched exactly of her first life, the love of his life. Seeing her as a human in passing, after eons, felt like being drenched with countless buckets of ice cold water. Immediately, Kaname had felt like a rabid animal akin to a newly turned level E vampire, where everything in his body screamed MINE , and instinctively, his fangs were itching because all of his accumulated hunger was starting to kick in. He hadn't fed on anyone for centuries. His lack of hunger for human blood always made other vampires marvel at him and perceive him as a super-vampire who did not need to feed - but now, Kaname was recalling the truth. It was because she was the only one he could drink from, the only one who could satiate his thirst.
Memories of their bond, his first life and love whelmed him for what felt like hours of watching a movie of all his forgotten memories. But really, it was only for some seconds, and Kaname was infuriated. All of his heart break, hurt from her betrayal, and anger from feelings of humiliation engulfed him at once. Everything felt so horrible, because it was amplified in a way he hadn't felt since he had first lost her, and it was suffocating like everything always was when it came to her.
But beneath all that was bad and horrible, Kaname finally felt alive again for the first time. Finally, he did not feel like a hollow and empty void that was just living physically, but not alive emotionally, like their bond had stated - one cannot live without the other.
At his core, despite all of his feelings and anger towards her, despite all of his ambivalence, he still loved her. She was still his, and for him, nothing was going to change that. Howver, this time around, he was going to have a leash on her (fitting since she was previously a werewolf), and he was going to make sure she could not leave him again. He was not going to make the same mistakes again.
The sounds of chains rattling was heard in the silent cellar, as [Name] thrashed against them. Her toes curled, and in ache, she attempted to move her head several times. However, Kaname had her head gripped tightly, his fingers clutching her locks harshly, as he drank from her neck.
After several moments where only the sounds of his gulping, and [Name]'s murmuring of pain were heard, Kaname removed his fangs from her throat. Then, he lovingly licked the last drops of blood that were dripping down her neck. His eyes glowed a brilliant red, while he gazed at her possessively, and clutched her tighter.
"I haven't forgiven you for what you did. You left me, my dear, like I meant nothing to you.
"But you, you meant, mean everything to me. I loved you more than myself. I will forgive you once you repent enough, and prove yourself to me and beg for my forgiveness. Until then, I will treat you the way I should have since the beginning. You're going to be under my control, and I will make sure that you can never abandon me again.
"Once you've turned into a vampire with my blood, you can't ever defy me again." Kaname whispered, and forced a desperate kiss on her. [Name] had tried to move her head away, but her efforts were fruitless since he still gripped her head tightly. Then, once Kaname pulled away from their kiss, in a blink of an eye, he slit his wrist, and forced his blood down [Name]'s lips. Her eyes widened in disgust at the vile metallic taste she was being forced to drink, and she tried to shake his hand off her, but all her efforts remained useless.
"Drink up my darling. It's time for you to be reborn and finally be by my side. And this time, you will be mine; I won't let you go again."
