you woke up, multiple beads of sweat dripping like wildfire from your forehead, eyes fluttering open. the sharp scent of blood and metal clogged your sinuses, in which you winced at the impact it had on your sense of scent.
the blurred, black silhouette had become more clear in front of you: there stood james; just watching. he didn’t speak, he didn’t breathe. but him gaze was fixed on you, his arms crossed against his chest, face finally lighting up after realising you were finally awake, a darstadly sick smirk pulling at his lips, one that you wanted to punch off his face.
whilst looking through your surroundings, you stifled back a cough, your heart beating entirely through your chest at this point. it was a body. an alive body, an unconscious alive body. two chains were tied to their wrists, identical to yours, which you assumed was the body of the person who had attacked you earlier. their clothes were tattered, face pale and drained of emotion and colour, and patches of clothes drenched in blood. they didn’t even look human, more like a half- empty vessel.
james’ loud voice redirected your attention back to the fact that you were still chained up. you’re finally awake," james murmured, his voice a low, velvety purr that vibrated through the freezing air, “i’ve been waiting."
you tried to escape, your arms aching, throbbing with pain as the wires and chains around you limited your movement, making you unable to escape, with each action you tried to make being accompanied by a dry, mettalic clunk.
you yanked harder against the chains, hoping that if you managed to get enough force, you could pull the iron chains off your fingers, which was incredibly unsuccessful on your end.
james cackled hysterically at your efforts, as if it was amusing to him to see you suffer. “if you pull at that angle, you're only going to bruise your skin, baby”.
the petname left a sour feeling of disgust down your insides. it felt like a tease, the extreme distaste filling you whole, causing your stomach to drop.
“dont call me that. ever.” you spat, voice trembling, extreme irritated by james’ efforts to engage in conversation with you.
his smirk widened, as he bit back his smile again, leaning forward to grab your jaw, lifting your face up to meet his eyes.
“or what?”, he responded, his dark souless eyes peering into yours, a strong scent of blood and cinammon filling your nose yet again.
you ignored him, turning away from him as his hands still lay on your lower jaw. he walked away, taking his place in front of the stone pillar in the middle of the room.
your bit your lip aggressively, realising that you were truly hopeless and unable to get away as the pain against your wrists worsened, which was a sign for you to stop trying.
“the sooner you realise and accept that you belong here, with me, the better, y/n”.
you gritted you gritted your teeth in anger, trying not to let his creepy, foolish words affect you in any manner.
“i could never be with you. ever.” you spoke, rejecting his attempts to show you affection and kindness. you weren’t being mean; you just wanted to escape him, for good. james looked at you, a slight frown taking over his facial features, his eyebrows furrowing, like he took to heart what you said. his expression faltered-the proud smirk what once was all over his face diminished to a sad, painful sulk. he hesitated a bit, as if he was going to reply; but he stopped himself. nothing came out.
you swallowed hard, registering his lack of response, forcing yourself to stay calm and collected.
“why me?,” you asked, voice heavy.
the question hung in the air for a few moments, an overwhelming silence. he continued staring at you. no reply again.
“what do you want from me?”, you asked again, raising your voice a little but higher, so that he would take you more seriously. but this time, he seemed to register the question, unlike before. he looked like he was thinking about the answer instead of defltecting. he ignores again.
he stood up from the pillar, and walked towards you, slower this time, each footstep a loud clunk that echoed through the room. each step he took closer caused your heart to beat more frequently, as you were extremely frightful of what he was going to do to you right now. he closed the distance between you and him, as he lifted up your chin, forcing you to make eye contact with him.
“i want to prove something to you tonight baby”, james spoke, his voice dark, causing a shiver to run down your spine. you didn’t respond. you just looked up at him, unable to read the emotion on his face.
“i love you, y/n”, his gaze softening, eyes never leaving yours, not even for a split second.
your face dropped slightly, mouth hung open, completely unsure of how to respond to what you had just been told. you weren’t only confused, but unsure at the sudden confession.
he continued. “when you’ve been existing for as long as i have, you develop different emotions for different people. disdain, hatred, jealousy, anger. and i’ve felt a lot of those things. but for you y/n, it’s different. softer; more raw. it was more love instead of hate.”
his gaze softened, the most pure and untainted james had ever looked throughout the entire night, a vulnerable side starting to bloom.
“you’re in my gut. my throat. everywhere.”
as much as you were moved by his words, you couldnt convince yourself to truly believe what he was saying.
“love?, you asked him mockingly. i dont believe you.”
“fine. let me show you something then.” james took his hand off your chin, walking away, making his way for a ladder upstairs, as you store off into the distance, hoping he’d return soon.
————————————————————————
you heard a rustling in the distance, as james made his way down the ladder, holding a mysterious stack of papers in his hand as he made his way in front of you.
he held up each paper one by one slowly, leaving you examine what was on them. some being pictures of you, pictures that you didn’t even know existed. some were drawn sketches of you, which looked like they were drawn by the most talented and gifted of artists. but there was one that really took your attention. it was a letter, what seemed to be a love letter, which james had noticed you took a particular interest in. love hearts were adorned around the paper, with the letter signed by james himself. before you could properly get to read it, he pulled it away from you. stacking all the papers on a nearby table. he made his way towards you again.
“believe me now, y/n? all this dedication and effort, all these things i’ve done for you.”
“this proves nothing. only that youre obsessed, not in love.”
his expression fell again, unsatisfied by your answer.
“obsession? that’s what you think of me, after the love i’ve shown for you.”
“no. you don’t get it. you can’t chain someone up, show them a few keepsakes, and claim to “love them”. you’re crazy.
“for you”, james replied.
your facial muscles contorted into a frown of disgust. the sentence settled over you like something rotten, feeling more like a risk than a belief.
“that’s not romantic. thats not proving you really love me. so stop acting like you do.”
”stop acting like i love you?” he chuckled to himself sharply, amused by your previous statement, an irony in his tone.
his hands curled angrily into fists. “if you’re incapable of taking me seriously, maybe words and love letters arent enough.”
he grabbed a nearby stake from the floor and walked over to the limp chained up body on your right, which was still unconcious. he raised the wooden stake above the captives chest and looked over towards you.
“i’ll kill her. just for you. to prove to you that im worthy.” his gaze was cold, no sympathy or possible regret in his eyes.
your heart clenched, recoiling as far as the chains allowed you to, a painful mix of fear and sorrow filling your mind. you stared at the stake, hoping it would vanish before you, hoping all of this as just a dream and not a horrible evil reality taking place before your very eyes.
“that isn’t proving anything, just proving that you’re sick and twisted.” you told james, trying to convince him to back away from the terrible decision he was about to make. you didn’t want to be the reason for another persons death, no matter how evil they were.
“you’re calling it sickness, but i call it commitment and loyalty. a way for me to show you that i would choose to save your life over anyone elses in times of danger. everything i do is for you, y/n. isnt this what you wanted?”
“no!!” you cried out. “if you really cared about me, you’d drop that stake. and let me leave, to be free. no matter how much you love me, you have to at least do that.
a stray tear swept down your face, in which you couldn’t rub away due to your arms still being in restraints in the chains. you bit back a sob, as you were too angry to even cry right now.
james’ grip on the stake loosened a little, hurt flickering upon his face before it hardened again. this was the first time this evening that he had looked remorseful, guilty for his actions.
and the more time that passed, you hated to admit that you were becoming more and more convinced that he was in love with you.
he walked over towards you again, dropping the stake, letting it clash against the floor.
“i would never hurt you, my love”, james spoke wiping the wet stain on your cheek.
he had looked even more handsome now than ever, now that you and him were face to face, his platinum spiky black hair contrasting well with his sharp nose and dark brown eyes.
before you could speak, he grabbed your face, crashing his lips against yours with a possessive hunger. your tongues clashed together, as he used his lips to suck on your tongue slowly, as one of his hands grabbed for your neck to keep you still so you couldn’t shuffle away. butterflies swarmed your stomach, as you started kissing him back, his other hand lay on your waist, stroking the skin under your shirt. the kiss was so forceful, your chests resting against eachothers as the chains above you started to loosen, probably from the impact of the kisses and the pulling.
after a few more kisses, you spun back to reality, as a huge wave of guilt washed over you, damning yourself for giving in so easily to an evil vampire that held you captive against your own will. you stopped, as you became less and less unresponsive to his kisses, biting back the urge to kick him away.
james noticed that you weren’t reacting, that you were trying your best not to give into him. that you weren’t kissing him on purpose.
“just give in baby. you know you want to,” he muttered against your mouth.
you didnt listen. you ignored his orders.
he decided to redirect his attention to elsewhere, his lips travelling to your neck, leaving wet hickeys on the skin, each hickey delivered harsher than the last. the purple-red bruised adorned your neck, raw skin becoming more visible as you winced on impact, crossing your legs together.
he pressed harder this time against your lips without warning, a loud whine erupting from your lungs which echoed throughout the lair.
“ohh-jamesss!!” you whimpered, legs squeezing together harshly, neck flying back, breaking open the chains, as they fell to the ground leaving your wrists in pain and swollen.
“god, yes, thats my girl”, james chanted, finally victorious as he had succeeded.
he removed his lips from your neck, looking down at your swollen wrists, as you rubbed them, getting rid of the pain.
james lifted both your arms and kissed your wrists, stroking them gently, a slight sense of guilt clouding his face.
“im sorry baby. i love you.”
he placed another kiss on your forehead, still soothing your throbbing wrists.
“please dont leave me y/n”.
maybe, just maybe, there is some good in him.
