He rubbed the crick from the back of his neck, noticing for the first time that the hall was actually empty. Duncan had been so consumed, pouring over what few letters and reports he’d gotten from the Wardens at Weisshaupt. Asking for their support had been a long shot, of course. He’d known that, and yet, it still hurt to get the rejection letter, and he’d read it several times in the hopes of finding some sort of silver lining.
Straightening his back, he stood from his chair, shuffling the papers around on the table before picking them up. He heard soft footsteps behind him and turned, brows arching in surprise. “Inquisitor. I thought you’d escaped to bed earlier. You can’t possibly still be at work?”

(Good luck with the new babies, especially the poor sick bb girl. Sending good vibes. <3 ; ; )
Their names are Bagheera and Mavis ( the little bby ), and yeah, I hope she gets better! D: They found her in a barn covered in diesel oil, so she’s terrified right now.

((One of those drabbles I promised forever ago. I’ve been running back and forth on this, but here! for @dirthavhenan and their sweet babe))
“<Do mages even still practice this?>” Haleir moved with the grace of a cat, all gentle movements and steady form. The mass of energy they passed between them across the way flickered some and Solas smirked.
“<Have you, vhenan?>” He asked, sounding chiding if not for the humor tinting his voice.
“<Careful, I might accidentally mess up if you keep talking to me so, ma lath.>” It remained as strong as it had been for the past half hour, swimming between them in lazy arcs or bobbing smoothly up and down in the empty space. The energy flowed from the both of them back into each other on each pass, connecting them in a way only magic was capable of.
The synergy of one’s magic could pair with another’s in practice, meaning the Veil would not be shredded between two overworking mages. They simply pulled from the same place, their energies weaving and empowering their spells through their bond alone. In the times of old, fighting had been done in this way with them- a technique they had perfected during the times of rebellion after Solas had stolen Haleir through the mirror.
“<Am I that much of a distraction?>” Solas grinned as the energy swam in a circle around Haleir before it was volleyed back to him lazily. It curled up and down his arms and bounced back to Haleir.
“<Perhaps.>” Haleir smiled in the way that made Solas’ grin turn sweet and saccharine. The energy dissipated between them and both stood straight, relieving themselves of the routine.
“<I would apologize if I did not enjoy the attention.>” And without need for words, they moved towards the main hall of Skyhold. Food would be needed before they began their trek towards the Storm Coast, and there as time before the rest of those coming along would wake. Solas twined his fingers with Haleir’s as they walked up the cold steps and there was a moment they paused, looking at the sky. It’d been ages since they had been here, and last they had, the circumstances had been... dire. Not unlike this now, but now was not so urgent.
Haleir squeezed his hand and Solas smiled at him in reassurance. He pressed his lips to the back of Haleir’s hand and they moved on. The sun was rising, and for now, peril could be ignored for breakfast.
