"People have to make decisions for themselves even when they're bad ones". Vanessa Jared's Got a Man by LaQuette was such a hit for me. It was not your typical romance. The storyline sealed the deal and the spices parts had me ready to call the fire department. LaQuette gave all the elements I look for when I set out to read romance. Thanks to @smpromance for the gifted copy. I loved Vanessa and Michael so much. They were flawed, honest, patient and not afraid to challenge each other. Their friends were such a positive support network and really added to the overall vibe of the story. I would definitely love to see their stories in the future. (HINT, HINT) LaQuette really knows how to keep you invested in a stroy. The pacing was perfect. I loved the banter and tension. She really knows how to turn up the heat at just right time. What really made this story unique were the themes: 🌶 40+ female lead 🌶 divorce and aftermath 🌶 lasting effects of emotional abuse 🌶 fear of losing people 🌶 communication & consent 🌶 normalizing mental health in the Black community 🌶 making friends in adulthood 🌶 small town neighborhoods 🌶 respectful boundaries This was my first LaQuette book but it won't be my last. This one published 9/21 and I highly recommend it if you're into sexy stories with captivating characters and a rich plot. #VanessaJaredsGotAMan #LaQuette #bookreviews #bookcommunity #reading #bookstagram #bookphoto #20booksbyblackwomen #bookworm #romance #divorce #womensfiction #readersofinstagram #blackauthors #spicybooks #bookstagrammers #bookrecommendation #Korean #BIPOCBookstagram #readers #Blackbookstagram #bookish (at Bushwick) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiyomqbLxRg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
