Of Puerto Rican descent, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo is the stage name of Tampa-born José Cancel, the performer probably most widely known for her appearance on "RuPaul's Drag Race." British figurative artist David Puck—self-described "queer nomad painter"—set up his first ever Los Angeles studio last year, in a shared warehouse space on E 11th St and promptly added this colorful mark outside. Puck says he "wanted to paint a Latina queen to go with the community here in East LA" going on to add... "Who doesn't want to say hi to Vanjie every morning.
