Gratitude - Black Beetle/Reach Scientist (or Dawur/Yalut)
14. Anything they both dread?
Both have a fear that the other will get hurt; it’s more likely for Dawur to be the one to get injured, as he’s the one going out and fighting (and beating the shit out of people). There is a certain amount of risk in Yalut’s work, though. When doing her experiments on individuals to bring out potential powers, if something goes wrong with an unstable meta-gene, there is a good chance she could be injured. And unlike Dawur, who has the scarab armor, she won’t be as protected.
Death of the other is also a fear that is constantly at the back of their minds; largely, it’s only a worst-case-scenario thing, but there have been times for both of them where death was a likely possibility.
Both do their best to ignore those fears and move on; ultimately, the Reach’s mission is more important.
(Although whenever the two are out of the ship on a mission, like in the episode Bloodlines, Dawur is noticeably more protective over her than if he were to be guarding the Ambassador (it’s one of the few times that his fear for her safety is noticeable))
19. What do they fight about? What are their arguments like? How do they make up?
Already answered that one here~
26. How do their friends feel about their relationship? Their families?
The closest “friend” to both of them would be the black scarab. Although technically apart of the relationship as well, since their mind is linked with Dawur’s, the scarab likes that the two are evenly matched in terms of their positions, and thinks that they work well together, thus making a good couple.
In Dawur’s “circle”, the ones who would know about it would be Green Beetle and Blue Beetle. Maybe some of the higher ranking guards, although Dawur doesn’t feel as close to them as he does to his “brothers”. For Yalut, probably some of the higher ranking technicians know about it. (in their line of work, it’s considered best if they don’t become too close to those of lower rank in the delegation; they’re here to do a job, not make friends)
If anyone really cares about it, they’re alright with it. To some it just makes sense; Dawur is the head warrior and Yalut is the head scientist; the best of the best should get together and make super strong and smart babies (although I personally feel Yalut isn’t one to ever want children). For the ones who are a bit closer, like B’arzz, there’s mostly a happiness that Dawur and Yalut are genuinely happy being together.
Yalut’s mother was somewhat surprised when she learned of their relationship (even more so when she actually met Dawur, and all she could really think was “why is my daughter being courted by a mountain?”). Overall, she approves of the relationship, although it does make her uneasy that it will last since it began out of pettiness towards the Ambassador.
Dawur’s parents are fine with the relationship; they like Yalut, and see her as a good match for their son (Dawur’s mother has made it very clear, though, that if Dawur messes up, she’s on Yalut’s side (to which Dawur usually responds with an exasperated “Mother, I haven’t done anything”)).
44. Are they comfortable with each other? Anything they have to have their privacy for?
They’re pretty comfortable with each other. At the beginning of the relationship, Yalut was somewhat uneasy about venting too much about how much the Ambassador frustrated her, since she didn’t want it to seem like she was only spending time with him to complain. He assured her that it was fine, but even so, she generally doesn’t try to rant too much about the Ambassador, for both of their sakes.
For Dawur, he’s always been comfortable being around her, like in the way he’ll just answer his scarab out loud whenever they speak. It took a little bit of getting used to for her, but (like most on the Reach ship) no one pays it much mind when Dawur looks like he’s talking to himself.
Both like to spend time with each other after they’ve done their duties for the day, as that’s the best time for them to keep each other company and relax together. However, both appreciate that they have separate quarters in the ship, as there are times they like to be alone.
