Karina Hodge

Karina is perfectly ordinary. Human parents. Normal childhood. Average grades. Nothing too spectacular. Except that she was gifted with True Sight. She sees things people aren’t usually meant to see and sometimes, as a result, she says weird shit. It’s hard not to say weird shit when you notice things other people can’t see. Which is how Karina and Vanna became fast friends. They met when they were 13 and for Vanna, it was one of those things that felt inevitable, unavoidable, and absolutely meant to be. For Karina, it was nice to finally have someone who got it. Vanna doesn’t have true sight. She sees more than most people do, but still not everything her friend does, but she trusts her, she believes her, and that was something Karina really, deeply needed. The two have been close their whole lives and when Vanna eventually starts travelling the world, they don’t fall out of touch. The friendship transforms and remains and it’s good, for both of them.

The Nor.se pan.theon isn’t Vanna’s but she would love the hell out of El.li??? An entire goddess dedicated to aging??? That’s Vanna’s jam. Things growing and ending are so important to her, which means that so is aging. She would also adore Ge.ras on the Greek end of things, but Elli would excite her more.

Children of the Ra.ven Qu.een are generally considered a little weird because they all have this relationship with/connection to death, but most of them aren’t the gloom and doom personality you’d expect from someone like that. Their abilities have the effect of making them value life and also prevent them from fearing loss and death, because they actively accept that all things end. Most of them are actually really friendly and kind people and it tends to throw people to find out about their parentage.

Vanna identifies as genderqueer, though she does use she/her pronouns.

Vanna knows when people are meant to die, including herself and her brother. The time shifts sometimes-- a person could be meant to live to their 90s, but one choice could push them down to their 30s-- but she’s got a good sense of a person’s life expectancy. She’d be a lot sadder about knowing the numbers for her loved ones if she hadn’t spent enough time around her mother to not be bothered by death.

Both Shephard siblings play a variety of instruments. Beck’s favorite is piano. Vanna’s is violin. Neither of them really use these skills as they age, but it was a big part of their teenage years.

Some Things about Vanna:

She prefers to keep her hair nontraditional, usually a vibrant color. There aren’t a lot of good resources of her with blue hair, but it’s definitely a look she’s had. She doesn’t mess with the color as much when she’s older bc professionalism, but she definitely rocks an undercut/side shave along these lines and definitely one like this for shits and giggles but with more wintery imagery.

Fuck societal gender norms. She’ll just as soon wear a tuxedo to an important event as a dress. She thinks it’s especially bullshit that clothing is gendered, but she thinks it’s bullshit that anything is gendered.

Immortals skeeve her out a little bit. Not because she doesn’t like them, but being around them sort of makes her skin crawl. Her mother’s whole deal is the end of all things and immortals don’t end, so it makes her uncomfortable.

She thrives in cold weather, but that doesn’t stop her from travelling to warm places when she’s older.

She admires her big brother so much??? He doesn’t understand how his magical baby sister can think so highly of him but she absolutely does. She thinks he’s amazing!!!
