I thought too hard. I'm now obsessed with the Vance/Unskilled parallels. Vance being overly attached and obsessing over Unskilled's death vs. Unskilled not even knowing what to even do with Vance's feelings because they're both so unused to genuine love & connection. Neither of them even knowing what to call the other (aside from the posturing of 'my husband I married as a joke') because of how little they each know about connection. Being the only one who knows what the other's curse of immortality is like. Being blind to each other's faults and putting the other on a pedestal from each of their own depression.

For the love of god please just let them make out & do it sloppy style & have hot steamy gay sex that just made whatever the fuck they have going on worse or at least have them sob in each other's arms after centuries of emotional repression. Please. I'm begging you so much. I'm on my hands & knees.

There's Sel and Nef (and Jordan maybe????), Amar and Cass, Vance and Unskilled maybe? And Genny's polycule that I don't remember all the members of

If we're counting Jordan as being in a relationship with Sel and Nef then that'd be fucked up. They have so many issues

But honestly the fact that Vance and Unskilled are literally married and I'm still not sure if they count as a couple is fucked up on its own. And there's also Everything Else with them so yeah I'll go with them I think

To me Vanskilled is Unskilled going on an hour long ramble in the middle of the grocery store on the difference between red and orange bell peppers with sources from botany, genetics and biology, and continually playing devil's advocate with himself and Vance thinking "I'm gonna fuck that miserable bitch so hard when we get home," the entire time. But that's just me.

There's a world in which they do this every day. But do they end up actually fucking?

"As screams echoed through the land, Vance sat out of the way, contemplating his every decision.

He didn't know why he did it. He was never very good at understanding the motivations of others, much less himself. But he knew something drove him to do what he did.

Perhaps it was that nothing was ever really okay. Perhaps it was humans idealizing a pain they could never understand. Regardless of his flawed justification, though, it was too late to doubt himself.

Things didn't necessarily get better when he fell, but they were bad in a new way. A way that was almost... comforting, to some twisted part of his soul.

There were some things, some people he missed. He was tempted to reveal himself just to see what they'd say. Would they pity him? Would they yell at him, call him a traitor? The thought of all the nasty things he might hear was almost captivating.

But he couldn't. There was one person he could never bring himself to face again, even for the moment before whatever brutal death he would face.

As he sat there reflecting on every horrid thing he'd done, he felt a presence approaching his hiding spot before a familiar face peered down at him.
