You wake with a start, barely realizing you had even fallen asleep to begin with. The nightmare you had is scattered and fuzzy, and you're left feeling that the nightmare wasn't entirely your own.

More importantly, it seems you've woken in a different place than you fell asleep- you can see two Pokemon having an- apparently heated- discussion a little ways down the shore from you.

Maybe they could tell you a little about where you are?

Hokulani might not have any concern revolving their respective roles, but it seems that Vanta does, electing to 'politely' exit the conversation before it can go any further by melting into the shadows leaving no trace they were there to begin with.

Vanta fades into the shadows, off to sleep somewhere more private, leaving his visitors to themselves.

Vanta: "I am not dancing around the word death when I say 'you'll fall asleep and never wake up.' I mean it quite literally. A nightmare which will never grant you the release of giving way to the reality of the waking world."

A Darkrai sits alone on an eerily silent island. Peering down at the water, they don't even turn around when another presence is noticed.

???: "I won't warn you twice. Leave or the next time you sleep, you'll never wake again."

[Press on?]

???: "It's been a long time since I've spoken to anyone. I suppose I wouldn't mind talking... for just a little. Do not blame me for what happens if any of you allow sleep to overcome you. I've given you plenty warning."

The Darkrai seems to have mostly calmed down from his initial agitation at the presence of strangers, mellowed into a begrudging acceptance.

Vanta: "Not much of a history to the island, as far as I know. Chesto berries grow extremely well here- they're just about the only thing that grow here actually- but that's really the most interesting thing about it. Humans are aware of it, but didn't find it suitable to settle. Suits me well enough, though."

Vanta: "Darkrai are spirits of darkness and fear. Like a toy is made to be played with, or a bed is made to be slept on, we are made to embody and spread fear. Many Pokemon, particularly those some call Mythical or Legendary, are 'spirits' that embody a phenomena or feeling."

Vanta: "You could say its our job I suppose, but the word has an implication of intent that is lacking in this case. We spread that which we imbody without much thought or control. Its our nature. For some this is for better, for others its for worse."

Vanta: "There are Darkrai other than myself, but none are on this island but me unless that one from before is still lingering. I differ from other Darkrai in some aspects, but our purpose is not one of them, nor are my feelings on that purpose one of a kind. "
