“Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed. If I fail, no one will say, 'She doesn't have what it takes.' They will say, 'Women don't have what it takes.'” Clare Booth Luce
It’s a #WomensHistoryMonth throwback! #HappyBirthday to Clare Booth Luce who was an author, congresswoman, and a US ambassador to both Italy and Brazil. She was the first American woman appointed to a major ambassadorial post abroad. In terms of her writings, she is probably best known for her 1936 hit play (and 1939 film) “The Women”, but her writings extended from drama and screen scenarios to fiction, journalism, and war reporting. In 1983 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by the president Reagan, becoming the first female member of congress to receive this award.
