Vapourer moth - Mothtober 6
The Vapourer moth, Orgyia antiqua, is native to Europe and can be found up until near the arctic.
It has a astonishing particularity: while the male arbours beautiful redish-brown wings with bright white spots, the female is actually flightless and only has vestigial wings. She spends her whole life attached to her cocoon. This moth does not feed which makes their adult life very short :/
The males can be seen flying around during the day, between July and October.
About the drawing
As I started the week of the 20th in advance because I'll be off for work, I'm almost at the mid point of this challenge....so the motivation is starting to be affected. It was hard to start this one, but it turned out to be probably my favorite one so far. I love the colors and texture especially, and I'm glad I tried something different for the decor. I'd probably change it a little bit to be less symetrical but eh, still pretty.
