with a discreet look over her shoulder, her amber eyes go back and forth looking for any sign that she isn’t alone, but thankfully no such thing comes. a survival technique from her earlier years, mariah takes great pride in the mysterious aura she has managed to create around herself. it’s more than essential for her here as well; taking into account all the people given the same honor of working in pursuit of helping their lord fulfill his goals — there are very few she feels can be trusted enough for her to become close to. even in the presence of that small group of people she likes, she’s still very protective of her past and with that, the most important part of it: her younger brother.
a little overdue for correspondence with him, mariah feels like her words alone aren’t enough to make up for her recent silence. she takes a moment to think, considering the contents to fill up the plank page of her letter carefully. there’s so much she could say; her mind already swelling and eager to fill him in on the events that took up a lot of her free time in between his last letter and now. among all of those things, a light goes off inside her mind and an idea starts to sprout and push all of that aside. impulsive and mischievous as she is, a big grin stretches across her face as she prepares her pen and paper to write. this one might be a tad bit briefer than what he’s use to from her, but it should still be her best one yet for the surprise alone.
i hope you aren’t upset that it took me this long, even though i know it probably hasn’t been easy for you to find time to write either. things have been kind of crazy around here and i tried to be as involved as i can, but it’s out of my control now. maybe it’s because when some people speak, my first reaction is to immediately tune them out, but i’m not completely in the loop of what’s going on. all i know is that trouble is coming our way, but for some reason instead of sending us out, we have to take a back seat to that gross old hag and whoever she decides to send out first. i can’t for the life of me understand why someone like that is so trusted around here, but whatever our lord says goes. not like i could say no to a face like that anyway !
since we’re on the sidelines for the time being, i have some free time on my hands and i figured… i’d come see you ! of course, you should also know i’m not taking no for an answer; it’s already shameful on both our behalves that i haven’t made it out there to see you sooner. let me know what you’ve been up to, but be sure to include where i can find you. i’ll be heading off as soon as i hear from you.
looking over what she’s written one more time with a satisfied smile, she stuffs the letter in its envelope before running off to send it as soon as she can. there’s no time to waste — there’s a ton of trip planning to be done and she wants to be ready to go the moment she hears from him again. / plotted for @variantmodes
