how do they mutually "like" each other enough to stick
varney' perceives his grief of dracula's death as more "superior" to her, as he is immortal and timeless. but hers are genuine enough to prevent him from scorning completely. unlike ratko, she cares about dracula, which varney appreciates but is not too convinced.
this lack of respect results in him viewing her as a precious tool. he doesn't want to lose her easily but doesn't love.
