De Sardet: “So sing whatever you do know. She’s just a baby. It’s not like she can understand you.”
Vasco: ...
Vasco, softly, as he rocks his daughter: “What do we do with a drunken sailor? What do we do with a drunken sailor? What do we do with a drunken sailor, early in the morning...”
So because I didn’t become a Naut, Vasco chose to stay on the island with me, and he turned down a position as a fleet commander.
Which is fine, but I don’t want Vasco to completely abandon his career just to support mine.
So my headcanon is that Vasco eventually becomes the admiral stationed on the island. The Nauts seem to like to keep admirals semi-permanently stationed in each region they work in, to handle diplomatic affairs and direct captains. I figure that the admiral we meet in game will give Vasco a year or so to think about whether or not he wants to go back to sea, and when he tells her again that he isn’t ready to do that yet*, she just goes “Well, I sure as fuck am, so how about this: You take my job here, and I take the empty fleet commander spot at sea?”
And it works out great for all three of them. It’s still a promotion for Vasco (and it keeps him feeling like he’s with his family) but it doesn’t require him to leave De Sardet, and it’s a horizontal move for the admiral, and everyone is happy.

*I can’t imagine Vasco ever saying that he isn’t going to set sail ever again. He’d always just say that he isn’t ready to do it yet; and, of course, every few years, he’d no longer be able to ignore the urge, and he and De Sardet would set sail together. Plus, Vasco and my De Sardet are going to have kids, and he’d want them to know and love the sea.
