It's a new year and we are excited to have new designs in our custom watch platform! If you've spotted some funky, abstract and unique patterns - you would've seen our January's Designer of the Month, Vasare Nar's wonderful abstract work. We has a quick chat with her to find out more about her.
Tell us about yourself.
I’m 25 years old artist at heart, always carrying a sketchbook and drawing some doodles and ideas for new patterns when I have time. I’m originally from Vilnius, Lithuania. I moved to the UK 7 years ago and started studying Design for Visual Communication in the University of Ulster. And since then I have been fully concentrating on various aspects of visual art and design working on many creative collaborations and commissions. It’s been an extremely fun journey so far and I’m glad that I’m able to do what I love the most. Create, design and experiment with art and design.
Tell us more about your art and what inspired you to pursue it?
My art lets me to express myself in many ways. I love to create colorful and quirky patterns inspired by spontaneity, freedom and playfulness. Bold and vibrant colors are always at the heart of my work. I like to incorporate hand drawn elements in my mixed media designs to create abstract visuals too. My inspiration comes from variety of sources from vintage 80s-90s patterns, music, traveling and exploring different cultures. Most great ideas and opportunities come from moving outside of your comfort zone and as an artist that is extremely important to me to stay curious and discover new ways to express myself in a variety of creative projects.
How did this collaboration with May28th come about?
I saw an article in the magazine featuring some cool watches from May28th so I checked their website and when I noticed that they offered customized watches I got in touch to see if they would be interested to have some of my designs in their collection, and luckily May28th loved my work and agreed to collaborate!
What are your future plans?
I’m hopeful that 2014 will bring me more new exciting and creative collaborations. And hopefully, I will be able to continue pursuing my design career even more in the next coming years. I’m really opened minded and enthusiastic to see what comes next. I would love to create a collection of clothing with my prints and design a cover for fashion/design magazine.
