Well, I scratched a film off my To-Watch list. Specifically Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. 

You can tell it’s directed by the same guy who did The Fifth Element- it’s crammed with gorgeous visuals and really creative aliens designs.

On the other hand, it lacks the good acting of Fifth Element; the “romance”, and I use the term as loosely as possible, between the two leads is the most forced I’ve ever seen.

To put it simply, I heard Valerian didn’t excel because it came out at the same time as bigger films, that nobody knew the source material, etc. Those are probably factors, but I think the main reason is that it’s not that good.

Currently Watching Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets...

It’s both imaginative and severely lacking it.  Lots of creative little world-building bits with the same annoying hindrances. Overly homogeneous alien races, bland white people (the leads have zero appeal or personality), female aliens with breasts, just because...  And yet the designs of the various worlds and accessories are interesting.
