Requiescat in pace, St. Dominic.  Domingo de Guzmán was born to Castilian parents in Spain and established the Ordo Praedicatorum in the early 13th Century (earlier than the first office of Grand Inquisitor, by the bye--despite St. Dominic, and the Dominicans in general, being accorded a negative reputation as inquisitors and gleeful sadists, St. Dominic actually died on this date in 1221 [two days shy of his 51st birthday], a decade before the Inquisition was officially instated).

Riposi in pace, Saint Frances of Rome.  This stamp enthusiast loves those non-virgin saints!  Known for her work as a Benedictine oblate and for opening her home as a hospital during the riotous times of the Western Schism (wolves roaming the streets of Rome!), Frances eventually founded the monastery at Tor de’ Specchi in 1433 and after the death of her husband became the superior there until her death on this date in 1440.

Riposi in pace, Saint John Bosco.  An Italian priest, Don Bosco founded the Salesian Society (officially the Society of St. Francis de Sales) to alleviate some of the suffering resulting from the Industrial Revolution, particularly among the children of the world.  He died on this date in 1888 at the age of 72.  He was canonized in 1934 in recognition of his work and given the title of Father and Educator of Youth, and is also known as the patron saint of stage magicians.
