“This is Martha’s debut record, and arguably still her best, at least in terms of the emotional power of her songs. Younger sister to Rufus, daughter of Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, they all must have been hard acts to follow being the youngest in such a musical dynasty. Although closer to the guitar-led folk of her parents than Rufus’s own unique path, she has her own distinctive take on things. . She tackles her heritage or rather parenting (or lack thereof in the case of her father) head on in the track Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole. Forget punk rock, its only in folk that you get such a directly caustic lyrical hatchet job. It was a bold, and from a marketing/profile-raising perspective, a genius move, since in the UK at least this track rode the airwaves of alternative radio like some crazy reverse cowgirl...” .
