I've seen some people not be into it, which is fine, but I really like Vault 24 because it feels like a natural extension of mind control/general mental fuckery stuff we've seen Vault Tec pull in the past (Vault 106 in Fallout 3 and Vault Tec: Among the Stars in Nuka World) BUT if you consider the whole idea that the Vaults ran tests for a potential Enclave space expedition (which Season 1 of the TV Show seems to throw out the window but oh well) then you can kinda reframe it as a loyalty test.
I like to think the people they picked to go inside were extremely patriotic red-blooded 'Muricans and the actual experiment wasn't just "does mind control work" (because they've done that before) but more specifically "how long does it take for our most dedicated soldiers to crack?" which is probably something you should test if you're prepping to have a bunch of fascist, single-track-mind patriots in space for an extended period of time.
