Throughout this unit I have undergone a series of decisions, changes, and experiments that have lead me to my outcome. With the initial direction of my topic being focused on creating a tool for perfectionism, I was able to approach this concept on a very theoretical basis. Ancient asian concepts, such as wabi-sabi, drove this initial exploration to experimenting with combining digital and physical methods of working. I was able to explore photography and illustration within this chapter of my work, allowing me to later push past these and develop something more technical. By also incorporating my personal relations with perfectionism, I was able to start utilising my own responses as research, leading to something quite personal.
However, this personal aspect hit too close to home, which pushed me to expand on this concept and look for alternative angles to approach it. This process challenged my ideation skills, and in turn pushed me to focus my attention on problem solving for an audience. Once this shift had been made, I then found my experimentation stage to be much more enjoyable. The exploration into 3D design was the most successful within this unit, due to the relevancy amongst my audience. Alongside this, bringing a more contemporary, new approach to working inspired me to continue seeing how this method could be applied to design. This then led me to undergo a series of experiments, branching from branding, to animation. These types of experiments were the most successful and effective for my concept, creating an interactive nature for the audience in my campaign.
As for the conceptual elements, I utilised the initial research for wabi-sabi; turning it on its head to create my visual identity. By pairing this with the theory of forms, I was able to build communication with the audience both visually and through messaging. This focus on the narrative I was building was crucial for this process, as I continued to keep these theories in mind.
Overall, I believe my outcomes have been a product of the explorative journey I have taken this term, which I am extremely proud of. I believe this outcome is relevant to the chosen audience, clearly communicates the narrative I set out to critique, and is visually cohesive.
