As Ben watched her angry, retreating back, he knew that chasing after her was useless.
Rey never did anything she didn’t mean and her storming off was not a show for him or for fellow diners, designed to create a dramatic scene and elicit an even more dramatic chase-after-angry-girlfriend scenario. If she said she wanted to be alone, she meant it. He was torn between affronted anger and a strange tightening twist of his heart.
He wouldn’t chase after her, he wouldn’t, he would go back into the diner and finish his meal like an adult, but as he turned back in to do so, he knew in his soul that he wouldn’t stay long.
