Heart of Lead and Blog Update 6/22/18
Heart of Lead
Hey all! Hope the summer’s going well for everybody so far. Heart of Lead draft three passed 16k words this week (16,130, to be exact). I’m roughly 20% of the way through the draft, and this is very exciting! I’m rewriting massive chunks of the thing, so it’s taking a lot of time and effort. I’m having fun with it, though. It’s really cool to see my planned character developments and structural changes in action on the page. Plus, I think I’m nudging the book closer toward the storytelling and wordcraft quality I want it to be.
Here’s an excerpt from Chapter 5: On Hope. Odd numbered chapters are from Luanne’s POV. Here she’s seeing the clock tower for the first time. She’s seeking someone important ;)
The Equinox Tower dwarfed every other structure in Rosenreel. It grew from the center of the square, rising like a living being of the earth that breathed in steel and stone. The ironwork contrasted the pale limestone, looping in intricate, dark swirls. And the clock faces were masterpieces: metalwork and stained glass, each more beautiful than the last. I approached the tower like a timid rabbit, both because it was huge and because I had no idea what to say to the inventor I sought.
It took a moment, but I managed to find a small maintenance door set into the tower base. The tower was for show, not for entry, and I glanced behind me to ensure I was alone. Nothing. I raised my hand to knock- and then I paused.
What if Wren refused to help me? What if she accepted? I wasn’t sure which option frightened me more. Either I’d die, or I’d fall deeper into my widening web of deceptions. I didn’t like either option, but I knew which was worse. I took a last deep breath, smoothed my skirt, and put my hand to the door.
I waited. No one came to greet me. The seconds stretched out like melting caramels in the warm sun. The hairs on the back of my neck prickled despite the summer weather.
The street remained still. But a pedestrian could appear from any of the square’s four corners at any minute; I shouldn’t be visible here for so long. I knocked again, harder, but I didn’t hear any echo on the inside. The door was too thick.
What else could I do? I pushed down hard on the industrial handle and, finding it unlocked, let it swing forward to admit me.

I have some summer structure updates for you all, since I’m trying to tighten up management on this blog. With... myself. Yeah. I’m working on my writer/blogger self discipline so you’ll all get better and more consistent content. There are four main points here:
I will be posting main WIP writing updates every Friday from now on. Some will be short, but there will always be one.
I’ll keep posting art on Mondays with the “Doodle Monday” tag. You can block the tag if you’re solely here for the writing; that is a-okay and I definitely do not mind.
I will be posting some form of short fiction once a month. This may be a longer excerpt from a main WIP, a drabble based on main WIP ocs, or a self-contained short story. There may be more than that, but I’m trying to set myself a minimum quota of one.
Pages are under construction! My character page will take the longest to put together, but I think it’ll be pretty cool. I’ll notify you lovely folks when I’m done.

Update 6/29/18
Hey all! This will be a shorter update post, because I've been at writing camp all week and haven't had much of a chance to work on Heart of Lead. I have written a bunch of memoirs and some slam poetry, though, so that's fun :D

Blog Update 7/9/18- BRIEF HIATUS
Hi all, just wanted to let you know that I'm leaving for an 11 day trip abroad starting today! I have left some stuff on queue, but I will have little to no connective power at this time and so I am announcing a brief hiatus. I will of course attend to my asks/notifications/all that jazz when I get back. Thanks for your understanding and hope everyone has a great week and half! :D
