New product in Tesco
I am so excited!! Tesco have just launched a new product, well in fact 4 new products! It’s like veg crisps, which as we all know are my favourite snack food ever, except even healthier! They are slices of vegetables which are oven dried, just like making veg crisps but with no oil. You might think that sounds gross or bland but I just bought the sweet potato ones and they were so tasty and literally have only one ingredient: sweet potato! These also come in beetroot, apple and carrot. Of course it is kinda silly to spend £1.05 on these when you could buy a carrot for like 40p and slice it up and put it in the oven at home, but these are convenient snacks for school or work or when travelling and I’ll definitely be making some at home soon. I ate them all before I could think to take a photo for tumblr and I can’t find a photo online ‘cause they’re so new but when I make my own I’ll post the photo here.
Veg crisps
One of my favourite snacks are vegetable crisps (as you can probably tell from my background photo and avatar). You can buy them in most shops these days, my favourite shop bought ones are Tyrrells.
Veg crisps are really quick, cheap and easy to make at home, all you need is a vegetable or two and some oil. Almost any vegetable can be made into a crisp but root vegetables usually work particularly well. Some vegetables shrink a lot in the oven and others don’t, I find that carrots shrink the most so make plenty of slices if you’re using carrots! All you need to do is peel the vegetable and slice it very thinly (I use the peeler to get thin slices) then coat the slices in your chosen cooking oil (if you like you can season them at this point with salt or spices), spread them evenly on a baking sheet and pop them in the oven. Keep an eye on them as they can burn very quickly if you’re not careful. Once they look golden at the edges take them out, allow a few minutes for them to cool and get snacking!
