Material You Require for Making Face Mask
Homemade masks are a great way to pay attention to health and develop your creativity. Using SVG cut files, you can make a face mask of your choice. In order to start making the face mask, it is essential to know the requirements. Here is a list of things that you require
· Two washed and dried 8” cotton fabric squares for outer layering of the mask
· Two washed and dried 8” cotton fabric squares for inner layering of the mask
· Twist ties, wire, or paperclip
·Hair ties, double-fold bias tape or ¼” elastic
·Fabric marking tool
·Scissors
·Sewing machine
·The printed face mask pattern
Steps to Make Face Mask
Here are the instructions that you need to follow to make the versatile face masks using ocean SVG designs
Cutting and Stitching the Mask
·Cut the outer as well as inner face mask pattern pieces on solid lines using SVG for Cricut.
·Pin the pattern pieces to fabric or trace cutting lines on the fabric and then cut out the outer and inner mask piece.
·With the help of a pencil or marking tool, transfer the casing line on the wrong side of the outer mask pieces.
·Along with the inside center mask pieces, sew ¼” seam. Now repeat this for the outer center mask seam with the right sides together.
·Trim the curved seam allowance with the help of pinking shears.
·Turn ¼” along short side edges of the inner mask and then press. After pressing the stitch in the place.
· With the right sides together, pin the outer and inner mask piece along the upper edge and matching the center seam. Now stitch using the ¼” seam allowance.
·Turn the right side out and then press the seam, extending the ¼” fold along the edge of the outer mask.
·Topstitch in the place 1/8” from the folded edges.
·Along the short sides of the outer mask, turn under ¼” and press.
·To make it meet the pencil line, fold the edge 5/8” inch again and press.
·Stich along inner folded edges to create a casing for the ties of elastic.
Adding Ties or Elastic to Mask
In case you wish to add elastic, cut the elastic of 12” length. Thread the elastic through the mask’s side casing. Tie a know and then adjust it as per your comfort. Now when it is comfortable, slide the elastic around in order to put the knot inside the casing. If you want to add hair ties, cut the hair ties in half, and sew that to the outside. Feeding the hair ties in the casing is not easy. You would need to place the hair ties in the casing before stitching the casing seam.
Inserting a filter and adding nose wire is completely optional. In case you need to add nose wire, you would need to sew a channel for it by stitching ¼” away from the top stitching. Through side opening, you can insert the wire and feed it into the channel. Once the wire is in its place, stitch the channel closed on both ends.
