Most vegans were not born vegan, we have already considered all sides !
Myth: Humans need to eat meat to survive.
Fact: Most humans can lead a happy, healthy, sustainable life without consuming any animal products!
Choose a vegan lifestyle to help advocate for a healthier earth filled with healthier people.
If animals are friends, why do we eat them? Why do we raise them in confinement, where they are never able to see the light of day, and then end their lives with torture? This is where your food comes from; this is how it is made. Animals are bred, raised, and slaughtered in factory farms for the benefit of our society.
Ever wonder how the egg industry works? At one day old, chicks are fed down an assembly line to be examined, where their fate is decided based on their sex and health. The healthy female chicks are kept to be raised in captivity as laying hens, while the unhealthy and male chicks are immediately macerated. This means that they are fed into a high-speed grinder and ground to a pulp. Believe it or not, this is considered a “humane” way of killing baby chicks.
Raising chickens for meat is another nightmare altogether. Chickens are bred based on their intended purpose, so those meant for meat are bred to have larger breasts and legs. This turns into a real problem in factory farms. Some companies in the agriculture industry feed hormones to their chickens in order to speed their growth, or make them much bigger than natural. Their unnatural weight, coupled with life in a small, confined space, leads to the premature death of many chickens. Before they can be slaughtered for meat, their legs break from their inability to hold the full weight of their own body. They die a slow, painful death in their cage; unable to move, sitting in their own feces, surrounded by hundreds of other sickly chickens. When the factory workers see a chicken in this state, they literally toss it out, as it is no longer of use to them.
This is just one aspect of the animal agriculture industry. There are dozens of other horror stories and inhumane practices surrounding this industry. They are not easy to talk about, very hard to look at, and devastating to think about. But it is important that you know where your food comes from, so you are able to make an informed decision on your diet and lifestyle, based on all the facts.
