if her causal approach was meant to be assuring; it felt the opposite to them. they don't even know why they kept entertaining the thought of venturing further down. curiosity? feeling like they had nothing to really lose? sure they had heard vague rumors regarding this town, ally would be lying if they said that they didn't come here just to scratch that itch in their brain but they never thought it would end up this way.

"horror movies are cautionary tales at best, & step-by-step instructions on how to get yourself killed at worst." they not dare even admit that they felt unease the more they stared down the long dark hallway. a few beats pass before they begrudgingly pull out a flashlight from their pockets, clicking it on & taking a few steps towards the hallway.

"but seeing as there's nowhere else to go.. fine. you probably know this place better than i do so i don't really have much choice but to trust that it's just.. creepy visually."

god, there better not be any actual danger down here.

Her breath caught in her chest as she saw the other woman-- The fear of a cornered prey animal, the elation of a welcome home parade.

Some rest stop just outside of Alabama, a few miles into where the older-than-the-gods mountains began their slow stretch north. Teeth eating at the sky and, at least it was some sort of facial feature after being hunted by that faceless thing.

They were both standing in front of the vending machine, the building empty and dead. Birdies mind kept running away, through the trees, those empty buildings and her footsteps echoing.

Alex looked so beautiful in this dim light.

"We got out. Tim and I. For a while." They had, for almost a whole decade, a life. Then it came calling again and Tim had saved her and -- she'd heard a few snippets, some people in New York, New Jersey, who could maybe help her. Help her try to get him back.

Maybe even kill that thing for good.

She tried to bite down the anger. They'd left Alex in a puddle of blood, assumed that thing had taken back it's pet. "We--"

We thought you were dead. Was that better or worse? Hey, Alex, it's been a while. How was your trip through hell? Did you escape? Or did it just get tired of torturing you? Is that ice cold still clinging to your bones like it did when you killed me and it took me there?

They'd been friends, once.

A hand gently rested on her stomach. She frowned. shoved her hand into her pocket. "I'm glad you're... alive." Platitudes. What was there to say, in this emptiness between them?

"I'm heading to Jersey. If you... Want to tag along. Or if you need a ride." Is that thing still after you?

Maybe I can protect you, this time around.

"Safety in numbers, right?"

A LIGHT FOG COVERS THE FOREST. Gnarled trees lush with leaves obscure him, but his oppressive presence is felt by every creature within miles. Gone are the bird calls, the wind carding through plants, and the rustling of shrubs. Even the sound of rushing water is muted. The Slenderman is watching, incensed by failure.

A PROXY RECENTLY BROUGHT INTO HIS FOLD IS STILL NEXT TO HIM. Not because of fear, but rigor mortis settling in. One of the many campers that settled overnight bested the overzealous youth. Roughly a mile from his location, the remaining people argue about what happened, what to do next, how to hide the body, and if they should just go. Whether they meet the same fate remains to be seen.

IT MATTERS NOT. Although this mind isn’t broken enough for smooth digestion, the Ark will accept regardless. He notes the campers deciding to hide the body, and their futile preparation for the task. That’s not what stays his hand, however. Blood Moon is prowling nearby and his interest is piqued. What will she do?

Skin crawling, scratching at the metal door chased the low growl heard from the other side in between the meaty thuds. Had the women been any slower, it would have been a hell of a lot worse. Sweat and blood beaded on her skin like diamonds and rubies in the overly bright safe room.

Whoever had installed the emergency lights was a hero in Faye's eyes. Nothing worse than getting to one of the houses only to discover there was little more than a lamp to provide them with any light.

"I—" She froze when Rochelle grabbed her arm. It had been throbbing, sharp tingles radiating all the way up to her shoulder. The fear of seeing a circular shape with around 32 indentations kept her from even acknowledging it. That is, until her companion began

"It must've been from that Hunter," she sighed rather than spoke. "I thought I missed its lunge, but that horde wouldn't let up." With her burst of adrenaline draining, she could feel fatigue thread through her muscles and a lightness fill her head.

There would be supplies somewhere in the room. Enough to fix her arm and replenish what they had used to get to this one.

"What about you? Anythin' hurtin'?" She didn't see anything wrong at first glance, but her vision had become slightly fuzzier.

SHE'S GOT THIS BASTARD right where she wants him- lined up in her crosshairs. clean (enough) shot... hers- theirs- for the takin'. trigger finger itchin' up a storm... miss darlin' ain't wrong, though- much as she might be loath to admit it, one wrong move or misfire here and the low-down piece of shit'll be off in a cloud of dust, 'fore leavin' 'em in a hail of bullets. the lady's sharp as a razor, all right (and twice as gratin'!). sees clear as day where her eyesight's all red and cloudy with crimson mist. spies the wood and the trees while she's busy burnin' the whole damn forest down. hmm... what to do here... ❛ i hear ya, woman- loud and crystal! last i checked, i ain't got shit in ma ears! you got yer own way of doin' things, just like i got mine. you don't tell me how to do this job and i will do my damnedest to refrain from doin' the same to you! maybe ya do catch more flies with honey than vinegar- i dunno. i ain't never tried! but... i reckon ya can bring yer fair share outta the air with a couple bullets- if yer quick enough, that is. and a damn fine shot! not if yer a big, cluckin' chicken, though...! ❜
