the  smell  of  frankincense  and  beeswax  sits  in  the  air .        it’s  a  distant  and  musky  smell        the  kind  that  linger’s  but  isn’t  too  overpowering .        clarice  muses  quietly  over  a  painted  scene ,        frescos  of  dante’s :        DIVINE  COMEDY .        paradise  and  hell  on  both  of  the  left  and  right  walls ,        and  the  cataclysmic  depiction  of  the  last  judgement        (  along  with  the  portrait  of  dante  himself  )        situated  in  the  center .        she  stands ,        and  she  chews  over  the  beautiful  yet  morbid  perception  of  life  and  death .        at  the  time  the  strozzi  chapel  was  painted ,        the  plague  broke  out   ...        ONE  ONLY  NEEDED  TO  IMAGINE  THE  FEAR  THAT  SPREAD  THROUGH  THE  CITY .        clarice  hasn’t  been  to  florence  before ,        you  can  tell  it’s  her  first  time  by  the  way  she  carries  herself  like  eyes  wide  and  filled  with  wonder .        clearly  she’s  a  far  cry  away  from  virginia  or  baltimore        [   miles  and  miles  away  from  appalachia .   ]        she  wishes  she  could  say  the  trip  was  personal ,        and  a  vacation  did  sound  nice .        but  her  aching  bones  are  not  yet  willing  to  rest .        not  now .

clarice  knows  she’s  being  followed ,        IT’S  A  FEELING  YOU  GET  USED  TO .        no  one  at  the  bureau  knows  she  has  left  the  states ,        well   ...        no  one  besides  ardelia        (   which  thanks  to  their  kinship ,        she’s  able  to  keep  it  a  secret  for  as  long  as  she  could .   )        at  least  until  she  can  find  something  to  bring  back  to  jack .        so  who  ever  was  following  her ,        would  have  to  show  their  face  at  some  point .        the  special  agent  takes  a  beat  before  turning  on  the  tips  of  her  toes  to  follow  a  small  gorup  of  people  off  to  the  side .        where  she  waited  for  her  moment  to  stray  away .        finding  a  secluded  spot  in  the  chapel .

 ANGER   COILS   INSIDE   HER   CHEST     like   a   snarling   animal,   all   sharp   teeth   and   bared   claws,   and   no   outlet   to   purge   it   out.   it   deflates   into   sadness   soon   after,   because   really,   she   gets   it.   this   is   not   her   world,   not   her   city   ;   she’s   an   outsider   here,   playing   pretend   at   belonging.   wipes   at   her   eyes,   small   and   fragile   and   wishing   she   was   anything   but.

        travel without the comforts normally provided to a lady was foreign to her. there was no carriage - she had to be on horseback all day - and the food was nothing like the carefully prepared meals she’d enjoyed on her JOURNEY south. even the air felt harsher. perhaps it was due to the fire being s m a l l e r. all complaints, however, were contained behind lips pressed tightly together. she might hardly feel like a lady right now, but in her heart she remained one, and a lady never complained; she faced even hardships with courtesy. besides, even the woods, wild and harsh as they were, were far BETTER than king’s landing.

          however, he must have noticed that a chill had settled over her that she couldn’t shake. the blanket provided immediate warmth.          ❝  thank you, ser, but what of you? won’t you be COLD? ❞          though even as she spoke, sansa pulled the blanket tighter around herself.

        she hadn’t expected anyone to come even though in the haze of TERROR that had pulled her out of slumber a scream had broken free, piercing the otherwise quiet night. in king’s landing, it had never mattered how loudly she screamed, sleeping or waking, no one ever came to her aid. but t o n i g h t ezio appeared at her side. he must have brought a candle with him because the darkness had retreated slightly. her breaths were still rushed, and the nightmare’s visions still danced before her eyes, but his hand on her arm grounded her. COURTESY said that she should apologize for bothering him over something so trivial or tell him that she was fine and send him on his way, but she was so tired. and she didn’t want to be alone right now. so she leaned against his side.          ❝  thank you for being here. ❞

" do not think i have forgotten what you did, traditore. you left me on that roof to die ! i needed you and you just left ! " : )

 the furious ease with which ezio auditore escapes his grasp, instead of ripping open his sleeve and arm with one flick of his wrist, tears a smile from jack's half-concerned expression. much of it is theatrics. assassins are dangerous by definition, yet among his many talents lies an extraordinary artistry at cheating death. ezio must not be so bad himself if he, in spite of his whining, has managed to survive the dire odds under which they last parted. a grin flashes across jack's face. "you look pretty healthy, if y'ask me." the other throws a word in his fit that the pirate doesn't catch, but it doesn't take fluency to recognize an insult. and jack sparrow has known a fair amount.

 he bows his head shallowly, halfway between irony and a genuine apology, then adds: "now, my friend — how d'you say it? amigo? mon ami? you'll have to teach me a better italian than whatever chaos i've heard at the tavern last time. were was i? ah, yes." sliding at ezio's side, he pulls an arm around his shoulders. all of what little was visible from under his hood is hidden from his point of view, but distinctly jack feels the line of ezio's shoulders tense like taut rope.

      "t'was a strategic move. what if they'd caught us both? we'd be hanging by the neck by now. and you didn't die, which i am very pleased about. so, i'd say all is settled."
