Don't think I want to post this on my Bell and Stone tumblr...
So Big Apple Ponycon was a bust for me as a vendor. I'm not mad at the staff/ organizers because they worked really really hard to put together something worth going to, but between PAX East, Tara pulling out and Las Pegasus it was going to be a bit of a stretch. (But the hotel, no, I'm pissed as hell at them, they may get a note from me) I realize now, I was really caught up in trying to make sales, and as such I tried not leave the table for more than 20 mins at a time, when I should have gone to a panel, and been a bit more social since Eric was doing just fine at my table by himself. So part of my lack of fab time was me and the rest was that I made over 100 cupcakes and 40 necklaces and sold less than 10 pieces. My cupcake earrings are 10 dollars, hardly extravagant, but that means people didn't like them "enough" and that just pops my balloon.
The best part for me as an artist was when one girl came to my table wearing the necklace she bought from me at Bronycon, gushing about my work and bought a twilight sparkle one in the same style.
Best as a brony was Katie Cook liking the necklace I made for her (And Andy Price complimenting my work, I sort of froze up because I wanted to tell him how much I love the comic...I just talked about my earrings...). Also seeing Sam and Joe of Squidbombed, NerdyMind, etc.
It was an odd day and I hadn't gotten enough sleep, and I want to apologize to anyone I may have grumped at, I'm much more Pinkie Pie than all of that, but it was a bit frustrating, I hyped this con to everyone, vouched for it and its organizers, but in the end it didn't live up to my expectations.
Also during the day I was already thinking about how this would effect my ability to be a vendor at BronyCon. I was sure that after all the money I lost on this venture my parents wouldn't be keen on fronting me for another table anytime soon. This added to the grumped feelings.( Happy note on that: My dad actually suggested a family trip to the area so that I could be a vendor/ we could see some relatives...)
So, to top off a depressing day my dad couldn't come get me and all of my stuff so we had to take the subway, which wasn't fun but it was okay, the problem was that in the subway I LEFT MY BACKPACK WITH MY NIKON 5100 IN IT ON THE PLATFORM. I was cursing myself, the con, pretty much everything. We (Eric and I) realized it around West fourth I think, and we actually made it back to metro tech and Jay street just in time to see two uniformed officers inspecting my bag. My ipod, my camera, and two sets of headphones were still in my bag. So in the end the world reminded me it could have been worse and I have a lot of good things/ experiences in my life.
PS I'll be offering at %25 off coupon on my etsy the code... BAPCON
