Machairasaurus was an oviraptorid from the Bayan Mandahu Formation in China, living in the late Campanian age of the Late Cretaceous, about 72 million years ago. It is known from two fragmentary finds, though there are five oviraptorids associated with a nest (including a brooding female) that may belong to this genus. It was a small theropod, and had long hand claws that could have been used to pull down branches, lending evidence to the idea that this animal may have been omnivorous or even herbivorous.
