Urrrr yeah so basically the wonderful Ventnor Fringe Festival is ranked as one of the 20 unmissable UK festivals so everyone cool should basically just use this as an excuse to come to the IOW and make me veeery happy!

Ventnor Fringe Returns!

The Ventnor Fringe is a brilliant festival run by some really inspiring characters with fantastic enthusiasm and belief in their work. This really shows through in the whole vibe of the event and the diverse range of artists and activities - I'm really excited to see how the line up pans out this year. Although the Fringe takes place in a remote location, this makes it all the more worthwhile for those who make the effort to reach it.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Ventnor Fringe, I've quoted a recent press release below, which explains a bit more about it:

Founded in 2010 by a team of ambitious teenagers who wanted to develop a creative hub outside of the country's main cities, the Ventnor Fringe is a unique alternative to the larger fringe festivals in the UK, with events taking place in eclectic locations across the town of Ventnor on the southern tip of the beautiful Isle of Wight.

Fast establishing itself as a heaven for festivals, with major events such as Bestival and the Isle of Wight Festival now firmly on the events calendar, the Ventnor Fringe is the Isle of Wight's take on the famous 'fringe' model which allows artists of any creative discipline to take part, running their own events under the banner of the Fringe... Over the past two years over 200 artists have taken part, with acts including intimate performances from Johnny Flynn, Dizraeli and the Small Gods, Marques Toliver, Hand to Mouth Theatre, London’s String Theatre, Brighton’s famous Ragroof Theatre, Replica Dance Company and a unique cinema run by the prolific French film Director Vincent Moon and cellist Gaspar Claus.

The festival aims to become a ‘great artist’s pilgrimage’ and return Ventnor to it’s roots as a health spa and source of inspiration for artists, as it was for many famous Victorian creative’s, including Dickens, Tennyson and Swinburne, helping a new generation of artists and audiences discover, experiment and celebrate new work.

Now in its third year, and growing rapidly, the Ventnor Fringe has opened applications to perform at the Festival this summer. Artists are entitled to 100% of their own ticket sales and the Fringe helps source suitable venues, accommodation and travel for performers.
