Movie of the week: Big Wednesday
Big wednesday is one of the most iconic surf films of the 70's and boy can you tell it's a 70's film! the hair, the cars, the clothes, not least the actors looking extremely young and robust compared to their rather withering older bodies now!
Big wednesday was one of the first surf films i'd watched where a plot line was actually involved and it wasn't just a surf docufilm, the three leading actors; Jan-Michael Vincent, William Katt and of course Gary Busey all play quite convincing characters who over a period of years come together, fall apart, avoid the army with hilarious excuses (apart from William Katt's character who joined) and come together once more at the end for the Big Wednesday Swell predicted by Bear, the local surf shaper whose life is in ruins after a divorce and an extreme alcohol addiction.
Now i wont hive away any more, but for films that really make you want to get out there and join the waves in the 0's sun, this is the film, and deserves more credit than i think is given to it today!
