PM Modi’s Silicon Valley visit must transcend symbolism: Expert
Kolkata, Sept 25: India needs three distinct outcome goals when it comes to start-ups and tech enterprises, feels Ravi Kiran, co-founder, VentureNursery, India's first angel backed start up incubator.
Firstly, he says, it must lead to creation of massive 'full employment' jobs. Secondly, focus on creation of a new wave of large and global companies, that have until recently been restricted to IT and BPO sector. Thirdly, it must trigger a dramatic change in India's position in global Intellectual Property (IP) rankings, from the current second from the bottom.
“I hope PM (Narendra) Modi picks up deeper reasons why the Silicon Valley is the Silicon Valley and what role regulation plays in creating a genuine culture of innovation and risk-taking,” says Kiran.
“I sincerely wish the visit inspires PM Modi to create a vision of building 30-40 Silicon Valleys in India through genuine transformative change of culture," he says adding that attributing ‘Silicon Valley of India’ sobriquet to Bangalore is cheap, lazy and short sighted.
