So I was today years old when I discovered that Aphrodite is also a war Goddess (thank you Overly Sarcastic videos for enlightening me). One of her many epithets that shows her martial side is Aphrodite Areia.
I was shocked. I thought Naoko Takeuchi just made it up as a reason for Sailor Venus to become the leader. So teenage me seeing this:
And now in my 20s learning that it was rooted in reality is still making my mind blown. Although to be fair I'm not sure if Naoko Takeuchi knew about Aphrodite also being a war Goddess. That being said it is still awesome that this coincides with a lesser known aspect of her.
And of course when it comes to manga and Crystal Venus/Minako, I ship her with Kunzite. So out of curiosity I googled "Aphrodite" and "Kunzite" to see if Sailor Moon is their only connection. WELL GUESS WHAT:
And that's on page 1 😂. Again these are all fun coincidences and I don't think Naoko was aware of these connections. I think the main reason why she paired Venus and Kunzite together was because Minako is a character similar to herself (with maybe a few more traits to not make it obvious) and Kunzite is her favorite among the Shitennou.
