I have been playing with the idea of what direction I want to take Ver’alu in. I’ve always had a firm belief that the more a warlock dabbles in Fel, the further it begins to corrupt them. Ver’alu knows that she’ll never die of old age, that she’ll eventually become twisted and corrupted and quite possibly need to be ‘put down’. When it was just her, she was fine with this idea. She had no one to worry about or take care of. Even when she was mated to Ex(pulse), she knew he was capable of taking care of himself if he were to lose her. However, this was all before Vera became a mother, and as they say -- Motherhood changes everything.
Being someone who lost her own parents at an early age, she knows firsthand how it hurts. Longing a mother and father who are no longer with you, but only in spirit and living in and out of (orcish) foster care. Leaving Luna alone - at any age -- is something Ver’alu does not want to do. Vera is the type that will willingly sacrifice whatever is needed to benefit her daughter, even if that means having to step away from her chosen path as a warlock. It’s something she honestly doesn’t want to do, but will gladly do if it means being there for her daughter and protecting her.
I’ve tried RPing Vera as a shaman (albeit, a different form of her on WRA) and, as much as I’ve tried, I just can’t move away from something that makes Vera who she is and a class I’ve loved playing since the very beginning. So, what sort of steps can I take to keep Vera from heading down that path of eventual fel corruption and eviiiiilness? I’ve been thinking of various ways and routes Vera can go to balance that out. This fairly recent idea I’ve been dabbling with was heavily influenced by going ons in my personal life. I’ve thought about mixing in some Wiccan-type magics and themes in with what she normally does. The trick is trying to mingle the two in a way that is believable.
As I continue my studies on Wicca in my personal life, I will begin incorporating some of it into Vera’s daily life and use of magics. Being that Vera is Shadowmoon, and they have strong shamanistic ties to the moon, stars, gems and whatnot, I can also incorporate aspects of that as well.
Another idea I’ve played with is the Draenei prayer beads she came into possession based on a roleplay I’ve done with her recently. I like to assume something that infused with holy light and blessings of the Naruu wouldn’t be something a warlock would waltz around with. While Vera secretly isn’t a demon, holding prayer beads and potentially being around them would be rather uncomfortable. Maybe not over the top like dosing a vampire or demon with holy water, but around the same principle? To keep herself “in check” Vera would bring out these prayer beads and hold them for a time. If she can endure the pain, then she’s “fine”. If it gets to a point where it becomes too great, then it’s time to step back for a time and detox (if you will). Vera will of course, periodically meet with the high priestess in Shattrath (Outlands) to have the prayer beads blessed often to make sure of this.
It’s an idea I’ve been playing around with for awhile, and I really do like it. Only question is, is it believable? Can lore skeptics accept the idea of a warlock mixing these two aspects into their regular routine? Or is it so farfetched, lore Nazi’s will throw a magnificent fit over it? This is where you, the reader, come into play. ;) Granted you’ve made it this far, I am curious what your opinions are. Please share them, even if the presence is “That’s dumb and lore breaking”. I really am curious! Do you think I’ve got a good foundation for pulling something like this off?
